To wash kids flannels after each use??

So we have DS1 who is 2.5 and DS2 who is 4 months, every bath time I use a clean flannel for each of them then put them in the washing machine, DH thinks I should use same flannel for a few days but surely this is gross/germ filled?
I always wash their faces and hands then body feet and finally bums but then if we used the same flannel the next day it would have been on their bum etc then go on faces?? I don't use a flannel myself in shower but use a bath puff thing which I change regularly but certainly not every day (however I don't face my face with it) so not sure what other flannel users do?!

Am I being too clean freak or is my DH being gross?!?

These threads always make me feeling like a germy slob.....

corrianderisthedevil · 27/02/2018 21:34

Cleans kids faces, hands, arses with flannel put in very hot sink of water and hand wash with soap then hang on radiator to dry. Then bung them in the wash after a few days. All you single use flannel warriors have made me feel like a right dirty mare

corrianderisthedevil · 27/02/2018 21:35

Also, what is one to use if a shower puff is so bacteria ridden??

Sandsnake · 27/02/2018 21:35

I’m with your DH, sorry. But I can tend towards grimness in certain things.

NordicNobody · 27/02/2018 21:36

Haha I've been wondering if it's just me who does this! I wash my ds the same way (head to toes, then bum) and change the washcloth every day. I bought a big bundle of microfiber ones on Amazon, 25 for £10 or similar, and they're brilliant!

PotatoesOfTheCarribean · 27/02/2018 21:43

Soap.

Lethaldrizzle · 27/02/2018 21:48

Surely you just rinse them after use in the bath, shower, sink, whatever - and then just hang up to dry on radiator etc. We only use for face mind but washing after every use is crazy

APontypandyPioneer · 27/02/2018 21:52

Bum flannel for me and I use my hands to wash my face. Flannel gets rinsed and hung to dry after use and then thrown in the wash every few days, same for DC.

I couldn't bear a bum flannel on my face.

Soap is intended to remove germs and dirt so my thinking is a couple of days can't do harm. I feel I tread the medium road of grimness.

Didntcomeheretofuckspiders · 27/02/2018 21:53

Fittontower Me too 😂

Sallystyle · 27/02/2018 21:55

We don't use flannels.

If we did there is NWIH I would be washing them after every use!

Sallystyle · 27/02/2018 21:57

Washing bum with hands sounds grim to me.

Well, this is MN where everything is grim and unhygienic.

I am not sure what is grim about washing my bum with my hands. My hands get washed during and after the process.

speakout · 27/02/2018 21:58

Clean flannel after every wash here.
I use one at every shower, it's washed after every use. I keep a stack of them in the bathroom. They are so small, I can't see it's any effort to stick them in he washing machine.

CAAKE · 27/02/2018 21:59

Rinsed and dried then washed weekly I'm ok with. It's the wet bum flannel folded over the edge of the bath left to fester that does me in.

DarthArts · 27/02/2018 22:07

YANBU.

I had tons of flannels. I buy them in job lots of Amazon.

Use them for face cleansing. I have a new one every morning that I use again to take off my make up in the evening. It then goes into my flannel "bin" to be washed.

Kids also have their own which are changed daily.

Kids are teens and at the spotty stage so far from ideal to re-use and spread bacteria. I'm equally not going to wash my face in the morning with a flannel dirty from yesterday's make up.

I "save" them up and do a flannel wash on a v high temperature every week.

Flannels used to wipe bottoms should defo be a one time only deal. Your DH is minging.

I suggest you ask him to re-use the kids flannels if he has a problem with it....

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 27/02/2018 22:20

How do the people who can't bear to wash their bums with their hands ever have sex Ffs? 😂

wannabeanomyous · 27/02/2018 22:25

YABU
Hands and soap for body, flannel for face. Rinse, hang up. Put into hot wash with towels weekly or so. But I expect you wash your towels every day as well.

I think I've touched worse things than my bum with my hands.

LadyLoveYourWhat · 27/02/2018 22:32

I use my flannel all over and only wash it once a week (if that). I don't understand how the flannel apparently gets dirt off your body but that dirt cannot be washed off in the sink. I have survived thus far without any ill effects.

WinonaIsHot · 27/02/2018 22:41

People are worried about touching their own bum with their hands? What the fuck?
Honestly I'm so confused. Confused

spugzbunny · 27/02/2018 23:43

People use flannels? I had no idea! I just use my hands and a bar of soap or shower gel if I'm feeling fancy! Why bother??

LemonysSnicket · 28/02/2018 00:00

DP tried to argue with me that my flannels don’t need washing everyday. They are wet, if I leave them on the side til the next day they smell foisty .... I don’t want foisty spores on my face especially when he’s used it on his bollocks in the shower and thinks I don’t know he double uses .... vile.

I’m not even a very ‘clean’ person ( bra is worn all week) but I draw my line at the flannels.

LemonysSnicket · 28/02/2018 00:02

and it’s not even about getting sick @Justanotherzombie ... I wouldn’t get sick if I wiped my pee on my face but it’s still be gross ?

Lethaldrizzle · 28/02/2018 07:44

Smiled - yes I've often wondered how the germ phobes have sex. Particularly oral.

HuskyMcClusky · 28/02/2018 07:48

I’m with your DH. I’d give a flannel a few uses on a little child’s body before washing. Nothing gross is going to happen. Confused

GnotherGnu · 28/02/2018 07:53

Why use flannels at all? What's wrong with hands?

HuskyMcClusky · 28/02/2018 07:57

I think people feel they can scrub properly and get into nooks and crannies with a flannel when washing children.
