Trump talk: HOW MUCH for that inauguration?

PerkingFaintly · 27/02/2018 17:57

Shock We can start whole new threads for less than $26,000,000.

This one only cost 23p I found down the back of the sofa:

northwest they analysed the first four threads after the inauguration so you were fine the first time!

borntobequiet · 11/03/2018 09:39

Family and friends used to laugh at me for getting news and information from Mumsnet, until they realised that I knew about stuff before they did. Now they ask me "What does Mumsnet say?"

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 11/03/2018 09:41

But the debates and rallies wouldn’t have been covered (not rallies for 2017 anyway - I know he filed to run again in 2020 the day after he was inaugurated but I don’t think he would have done 2020 rallies in the first four threads)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/03/2018 09:46

it was me that made things muddled Grin

Fekko · 11/03/2018 10:15

I agree - around here if there was a newsflash or helicopters overhead it used to be 'switch on the news'. Now I pop into mumsnet. I have heard all the latest Big Things on here first.

This article is (more or less) a promo for the author's book but it has some interesting points.

Where Is Barack Obama?

The former president’s reticence in the Trump era is only hurting his party.

There was a drill involving a police officer discharging blanks so that the children could recognise the sound of gunfire that people were posting a video of and in it, there's a reference to the active shooter being "dark" and "middleaged". Despite the fact that most of the school shooters have been white and young

IT'S ONLY A DRILL! East High's school resource officer fires blanks inside the school to simulate an active shooter. Training teaches students what gunfire sounds like.

@JustineMumsnet please see my post above about the research article - really interesting!

AcrossthePond55 · 11/03/2018 12:25

Hmmm, I was wondering why I woke up this morning feeling like an ant under a magnifying glass!!! The least they can do is pay us a stipend for being 'research subjects'! Well, it's better than an article in the DM as many MN threads end up being! Smile

I wish they'd differentiated a bit more the types of tweets and YouTubes we've linked to. WE know that many of them were jokes and satires, but that wasn't really stressed in the article.

All in all, we didn't come off looking too bad, did we? Of course, they could have just asked us, we could have told them that we are brilliant researchers of truth and purveyors of information!

This is one of the authors of that paper and her twitter bio Grin:

PerkingFaintly · 11/03/2018 13:08

Someone did ask! IIRC, a one-off poster dropped by one of the early threads and asked what was the point of them, was it just curation or discussion or what?

Of course, that was at the same time as we had a dedicated derailer or two using techniques like inventing rules of one kind or another, and then tying up the thread arbitrating whether the unwanted, imaginary rules had been followed.

So I just assumed the person asking for a definition of what the threads were for, was at the same game.

Not that I could have given a definition anyway – we may have settled somewhat into habits, but we haven't started from rules and definitions. Except, I suppose, to post in good faith and try not to propagate anything untrue or misleading (but that's a code for all of life anyway).

In his shrinking inner-circle, Trump has thrown away all collaborative pretenses and is behaving like a full-on dictator: unilaterally deciding policy, becoming even more irreverent and an outward bully to warn others not to criticize him. He is seizing power now.

Ooo so weird that these threads have been a subject of research! They are really good threads though, so much information plus the pleasant camaraderie.

Trump is tweeting again but I’m afraid if you want primary right wing sources you’ll have to seek them out yourself Grin

a bit of news: Emmet Flood is being considered for associate attorney general, per people familiar with the discussions. That possibility, along w/ potential WH posts, came up in convo w/ the president
