AIBU to ask where in London I can throw a 40th birthday party?

I want to throw DP a 40th birthday party and I'm on a budget. I found a venue in DPs hometown (a sports club) that is available and charges £20 an hour and has a cash bar. We live in the North but DPs family is about an hour north of London and we formally lived in London.

I think his hometown is a good place to throw the party as his family is all there and it's not too far away from London and the South so given enough notice his friends should be able to come. However, DP keeps harping on about having it in London... I think he's afraid no one will turn up if it's not in London. Will be held second bank holiday Sunday in May in the afternoon.

So AIBU to ask you for some venue ideas? Somewhere with a cash bar but not a pub and no more than £20 an hour. Family friendly. Do places like this exist in London??? Would need to be north London as trains for family come into St Pancras.

Goals football clubs do hire out with a cash bar too

Pubs in the city (I know you said "not a pub"), ie the 'square mile' are often, if open, dead on a Saturday, worth ringing round a few
