To wonder what the numbers on my lenses are

So I picked up new glasses today. Bogoff.

The reaction pair have numbers seemingly engraved into the lenses beneath little circles. Two on each lens.

That's not right is it?

Are they varifocals?

Pumperthepumper · 25/02/2018 18:57

If they’re varifocals it’s the number you add to your distance prescription to make your reading prescription.

Also, if they’re varifocals, if you look at the bit of the lens closest to the nose pads there will be another circle there.

LEMtheoriginal · 25/02/2018 18:59

Yes they are however it's only on one pair and I can see it in certain lights when they are on. Both varifocals one reactions that go dark have the numbers

Aw sorry, you’ve already seen there’s two on each lens.

Pumperthepumper · 25/02/2018 19:00

Both pairs will have the numbers, they’ll just be easier to see on the reaction lenses.

NotEnoughCats · 25/02/2018 19:00

Are they varifocal? There are little markings on the lenses to allow the optometrist/dispensing optician to 'mark up' the lenses to check positioning. They are there so that they can be checked if there are any problems. Only a couple of other types of lens are marked in this way, and those are usually safety glasses.

LEMtheoriginal · 25/02/2018 19:25

They aren't on my old pair of reactions although that was vision express not spec savers . Hmmmm just irking me that they are there. Made me a bit paranoid about the lenses as I fancy the distance isn't as crisp in the reaction pair. I don't want to go into the shop and say about it if it's meant to be there which clearly it is

You really shouldn’t be able to see the engravings although they are present on every pair of varifocals. I’d go back and tell them that they are annoying you, perhaps they can be changed to a different lens type with less obvious markings.
