To think you don’t beep your horn at pedestrians with sleeping children in prams?

Just had a total arsehole do this to me, when we were crossing the road. Apparently I wasn’t moving fast enough and I got a mouthful of abuse too.

You don’t do that, do you? I have joint pain, severe pain and depression and DS is ASD and I’d just got him to sleep.

Why do some people enjoy being such knobs to others?

upsideup · 25/02/2018 17:16

Plus like I said, my partner would ensure anyone who did that would regret

His wife and children have been killed. Seriously how can you be so unbothered by the fact that your child could of been killed just because you know your partners could put the person who did it in prison.

MaisyPops · 25/02/2018 17:17

What you're annoyed about is that instead of some pat on the back and confirmation that a driver should notice a sleeping child and be aware of your medical condtion, people asked questions about where you crossed and have pointed out that whilst the driver acted like a bit of a dick, your actions caused/contributed to tje situation.

You don't think you should take any responsibility because you were there first and it was cold outside.

surreygirl1987 · 25/02/2018 17:17

OP I'm pretentious because....?

Also, would that make my argument incorrect...? 🤔

RingFence · 25/02/2018 17:17

It's foolish to cross at a junction. Particularly with a pram. You're responsible for keeping your child safe, which means crossing in a safe place. Find somewhere you can see approaching traffic and wait until there's a big enough gap. Not for their convenience but to avoid being hit by a careless or speeding driver!

The driver was probably beeping to warn you it was a dangerous place to cross. Or he thought you were daydreaming if you didn't seem in a hurry to get to safety.

430West · 25/02/2018 17:18

Lets remember that OP has depression and a chronic pain condition.

Going on this fact and the tone of some of her replies, I'm not sure that AIBU is the best place for this poster.

CatsForgotPassword · 25/02/2018 17:18

Surrey excessive emoji use for one.

Think I’m the one in the position to know what I’m annoyed about Maisy.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 25/02/2018 17:19

You have to forget what you were taught!

It's not your right of way on the road if you were there first and drivers shouldn't be forced to stop or adjust their driving to accommodate you.

This is a dangerous assumption. Aside from bad drivers, there could be a driver momentarily distracted, a police car, ambulance, or it could be too dark to spot you. Sad

CatsForgotPassword · 25/02/2018 17:20

Nineties I don’t generally cross at night, and distracted drivers surely count as bad drivers?

OP posts:
ThisLittleKitty · 25/02/2018 17:21

Some drivers are just nasty. I had a situation where I was crossing a road there was no cars coming and I began to cross (it was one of those crossing with an island in the middle) when I got to the middle island some van driver stopped and said "excuse me."I looked around thinking he was going to ask for directions but instead started shouting abuse at me! How I'm a bad mother. I shouldn't have so many kids if I can't cross the road with them. All sorts it was really nasty and he appeared as I had started crossing so what else what I meant to do? The worse part was I was stuck in the island unable to get away as the cars on the other side weren't stopping so he continued to be abusive to me for a good few minutes until the road cleared on the other side.

surreygirl1987 · 25/02/2018 17:21

Hahaha I genuinely just laughed out loud!! Love it!

OP I reeeeeally should be doing my marking but this is too entertaining - I am starting to think this is a windup now too!! You can't be for real!

😂 (oops an emoji... therefore I must be pretentious!)

CatsForgotPassword · 25/02/2018 17:22

Surrey you don’t think they make you look pretentious and smug?

Of course you’re a teacher. Lmao.

OP posts:
CatsForgotPassword · 25/02/2018 17:23

Kitty he sounds like a horrible person.

OP posts:
surreygirl1987 · 25/02/2018 17:23

@kitty to clarify - not entertained by your point... that sounds genuinely awful and yes there ARE some nasty drivers around. The OP's situation sounds quite different though!

MaisyPops · 25/02/2018 17:23

As you say 'disrespect'... yet seem quite happy to talk about ruining fucking lives and calling people cunts whilst claiming it's disrespectful for people to point out the comsequence and issues with your actions.

I agree 430. Though I think this is going to be one of those threads where lots of people say thr same sort of advice, OP ignores it and tells everyone they're wrong, resorts to swearing and then flounces / claims the thread is too much for them and has it deleted.

WitchesHatRim · 25/02/2018 17:25

Begining to think OP is either a GF or especially entitled....

upsideup · 25/02/2018 17:25

and distracted drivers surely count as bad drivers

Yes OP there are hundreds of bad drivers and thousands of drivers who get distracted, which is why you dont put your child out in the middle of the road to be killed by a distracted or bad driver.
Why dont you just leave him there in his pram next time? As long as there were no cars when you first put him there it dosnt matter if he is killed because you partner will be able to destroy the drivers life.

CatsForgotPassword · 25/02/2018 17:25

Maisy well if they aren’t disrespectful towards me, I won’t call them cunts. It’s not hard.

I’m generally nice, but if challenged or someone attempts to take advantage of me, I’ll go to the nth degree and they will regret it.

Don’t be a dick and there’s no issue.

OP posts:
surreygirl1987 · 25/02/2018 17:26

No @cats... I'm afraid I don't think the use of a single emoji in a message makes someone 'pretentious and smug.' What an odd argument to make! I do, however, think you're getting off-topic....

(And yes I'm a teacher... I noticed you told someone else they 'sound like a schoolteacher' earlier in the thread too! Ha!)

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 25/02/2018 17:26

A distracted driver could be anything. A cat runs in front of them, the sun glints off an open window and dazzles them, a bird bangs against the windscreen, their tyre bursts, that sort of thing.

CatsForgotPassword · 25/02/2018 17:26

upside argument ad absurdum isn’t an argument lol

OP posts:
CatsForgotPassword · 25/02/2018 17:27

Surrey I think certain ones add to the tone...

OP posts:
anon135 · 25/02/2018 17:28

A normal reaction to a situation like this is to put your hand up and apologise. Accept that you were, at the very least, somewhat wrong in your decision making and amend your actions for the next time. Stop playing such a victim in life.

CatsForgotPassword · 25/02/2018 17:29

I wasn’t in the wrong though. No one irl thinks I was either.

MN is ridiculous.
