To think you don’t beep your horn at pedestrians with sleeping children in prams?

Just had a total arsehole do this to me, when we were crossing the road. Apparently I wasn’t moving fast enough and I got a mouthful of abuse too.

You don’t do that, do you? I have joint pain, severe pain and depression and DS is ASD and I’d just got him to sleep.

Why do some people enjoy being such knobs to others?

I don't ever use a crossing if it's empty, if a car comes up whilst I'm still crossing then they wait. It's as simple as that.

I will also stand at the side of a road (without a crossing nearby) to walk across, people will just continue to drive past. I will purposefully walk in front of them. Run me over, see if I claim!

Wow. Spectacular grasp of road safety there.

Pedestrian walks out just because they think they should.
Car A pulls an emergency stop.
Car B pulls an emergency stop and bumps Car A.
But ignore the accident that was caused. At least someone who wanted to cross the road did what they wanted and purposefully walked out. Hmm

bigfatbuddha · 25/02/2018 15:49

I don't think I understand. There was no crossing, so a straight(ish) road then. It was empty so I guess from this statement that it wasn't on a hill or anything since you could see there were no cars coming. While you were crossing a car came out of nowhere and beeped. So either the car was massively speeding before they got to you or you are the worlds slowest pedestrian or I am missing something about this story.

If you are that slow I would wait for the light anyway when pushing a pram. You're not going to be a lot faster anyway and you do have a vulnerable child with you.

And they shouldn't beeped at you. But I'm not convinced that you weren't in the wrong here.

Chanelprincess · 25/02/2018 15:49

Sleeping children in prams are irrelevant. Your medical history is irrelevant. You shouldn't beep your horn at crossing pedestrians unless you need to alert them to danger.

Err... what?!

TheFairyCaravan · 25/02/2018 15:51

So if there’s no cars, people stand there waiting for a red light? hmm never seen that, ever.

Yes I do. Although I only tend to cross at crossings because I’m disabled and walk at the speed of the average tortoise so I don’t want to dice with death.

There’s no way I’d have put my child in the position you did. It really annoys me when I’m driving that people take risks crossing the roads with prams. I just don’t understand it.

430West · 25/02/2018 15:51

Yes, when I am out with DD in her buggy, of course I do; I think most people do too. It's one thing to take a chance when its just you, but pretty irresponsible to take the risk on behalf of your DC.

When I am on my own I might chance it if the lights were't in my favour, but then again I know I could put on a bit of a sprint if a car came out of nowhere and I needed to get out of its way. If you already know you can't move fast, then why would you take the chance?

Shock Shock Shock

This has become riduculous. I'm still confused about the place where OP crossed... so there were traffic lights but no pedestrian crossing? Was she at a junction then? I'm trying to think of a place near me that needs traffic lights but not a crossing and I can only think of junctions and roundabouts - why else would cars need to stop? Roadworks maybe?

Anyway - I think the message is clear... use a crossing next time (and wait for the green man!)

MaisyPops · 25/02/2018 15:54

Same.
I know I my normal crossing speed & know I can get a move on.
I wouldn't put a child in that situation and wouldn't do it if i knew i was slower.

Nicknacky · 25/02/2018 15:55

I'm quite astonished by pointless post. All very well trying to prove a point (dunno what thatbis though)! until you are splattered across a windscreen. Car wins!

selftitledalbum · 25/02/2018 15:55

Try to toughen up a bit for god sake

CatsForgotPassword · 25/02/2018 15:59

I was always taught whoever was there first has the right of way, so if I’m walking on the road it’s mine, if a car is there before me it’s theirs.

Cars shouldn’t drive so quickly as to be at risk of running pedestrians over when it’s an area with houses, schools and shops.

I'm befuddled too SurreyGirl! A quiet straight road with traffic lights? No corners or junctions? No crossing?
I've no idea who's unreasonable now. Grin

BreconBeBuggered · 25/02/2018 16:00

Some very odd attitudes on this thread. Without knowing the road in question, I don't see how we can possibly judge whether OP was in the wrong to attempt the crossing when she did. However, having seen a pedestrian in the middle of the road, in my mind the driver is unquestionably in the wrong to have done anything other than slow the fuck down. Yes, of course as drivers we get irritated by other road users, but what's the point in blasting out rage when it won't achieve anything apart from startling the person annoying us? It can only make things worse.

GUMBYMUMBY · 25/02/2018 16:00

I got screamed at by an old lady in a car because I cannot run. Just an everyday common twat.

CatsForgotPassword · 25/02/2018 16:00

Road is a junction. I didn’t think that mattered.

Two roads meet.

OP posts:
ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 25/02/2018 16:01

whoever's there first has right of way
That's not a very safe rule of thumb.

CatsForgotPassword · 25/02/2018 16:01

One of these +

I was at the bottom of the “plus” having walked from East, if that makes sense?

OP posts:
Nicknacky · 25/02/2018 16:02

If it's a junction, you wait.

upsideup · 25/02/2018 16:02

Road is a junction. I didn’t think that mattered.

That does matter because it means a car could of come around the corner, there wasnt a clear view of both roads.

Julie8008 · 25/02/2018 16:02

You should have went to a proper crossing. Traffic lights are for cars, they are not a pedestrian crossing. Jaywalking is a hazard.

CatsForgotPassword · 25/02/2018 16:03

There’s quite a clear view. Like a plus sign. But the road visible is longish

Well pointless, you are either a GF or spectacularly stupid. one day someone wont react in time and you'll get hit. Then we can moninate you for the Darwin Awards
