AIBU to want a little more light in Bars/Restaurants?

I mean, i dont want clear white light or anything but it seems like so many places i go to now in the evenings are so dark that i cant read the feckin menu.

In a tapas place once we had to get up from the table and stand at the bar to read the menu it was dark.
And in Mal Maison in Reading we had to hold the table candle over our plates to see what we were eating

It's for the ambience.

And you can't see how grubby and stained the place is.

I like to see the food I'm eating as it's part of the experience. (Not worried about looking at who I'm with 😁)

I agree.
Also wish they would keep their music low because I find it difficult to hear people talking over it and everyone just ends up raising their voices which makes in worse.
