DP noticed our new washing up bowl can hang above the sink space if you balance it with its handles - see third pic with an egg cup underneath.

He truly thinks this is a sensible way to store it, and so after washing up etc he always replaces it like this. Then puts things in the levitating washing up bowl to soak etc.

It drives me mad. It is clearly grotesque. His argument is that it means its not sitting in the sink possibly collecting scum from when we tip stuff down the side of the bowl down the sink. I can see his point but a) this rarely happens and b) I'd rather a bit of scum on the bottom of the bowl than a washing up bowl which looks like it's met a very unusual snake charmer.

WIBU?

It looks like an alien bath tub.

Is your DP bathing aliens? I'd be suspicious.

Finola1step · 24/02/2018 18:42

Keep it as "Thug"

Frusso · 24/02/2018 18:43

Your dp needs help.

Thisusernamethingistricky · 24/02/2018 18:43

That was not what I was expected when I opened this thread - I am rather relieved!

I assume you are joking with the thread. Um, cool story bro?

Chocolateporridge · 24/02/2018 18:45

This is what I do with mine, I hate all the scum that accumulates under the bowl if the water isn't allowed to drain away properly Smile

Idontdowindows · 24/02/2018 18:46

He needs help. Nobody wants their washing up bowl hanging around all day. That sink is needed for other things.

frieda909 · 24/02/2018 18:47

YABU to have a washing up bowl, I bloody hate the things!

Vango · 24/02/2018 18:48

I do that with mine. I agree with him - it’s much easier to tip stuff into the sink and saves having to clean the bowl every time. Very sensible. Grin

FrancisUnderwood · 24/02/2018 18:50

Yes,YABUto have a washing up bowl.

CrackersDontMatter · 24/02/2018 18:52

I think it’s a really good idea, however looking at it is making my skin crawl. I want to put it in the sink —or claw out my own eyeballs—

PanPanPanPing · 24/02/2018 18:53

I don't like washing up bowls either. However, as you have one, Linky, why doesn't your DP prop it up on one of its sides, inside the sink - IYSWIM?!

DownstairsMixUp · 24/02/2018 18:55

I have a dishwasher but I don't understand the point in bowls?? I never had one pre dishwasher days. What's the point? I'd ditch the bowl.

Saisong · 24/02/2018 18:55

That is genius. I'm with DP all the way!

Idontdowindows · 24/02/2018 18:55

Surely you simply tip and rinse everything you've used in the course of the day, wash up everything in one go in the evening (rinsed properly beforehand of course) and then wipe the bowl and put it in its hutch under the sink out of sight?

You don't want that hanging around there over the sink all blooming day!

AnoiaUnstickMyDrawers · 24/02/2018 18:56

It looks sensible to me. Unless the handles aren't strong enough and it crashes into the sink when it's full?

Fekko · 24/02/2018 18:56

Why are you in my kitchen?

LinkyPlease · 24/02/2018 18:57

What do people without washing up bowls do? Do you wash up direct in the sink? What if you discover half a cup of cold tea? I do have another sink about 2 metres away which admittedly I could use, but it feels a bit far to walk when I'm in the middle of a good washing up session.
Plus I live in a metred water area so use half as much this way. And I once broke a glass dropping it into a bare sink full of water rather than into a bowl.
I do already have a dishwasher so the above point is rather redundant, but it's the principle

frieda909 · 24/02/2018 18:58

Yes, washing up bowl on its side if it has to live in the sink at all.

I hate them because I used to live in a house share which had one and my housemates insisted on just leaving it full of manky smelly water all the time. Any time I wanted to do dishes I had to empty out the water and fish out all the cutlery and crap that had gathered at the bottom. Boak.

DalekDalekDalek · 24/02/2018 18:59

put it in its hutch under the sink out of sight?

Who has a hutch specially for their washing up bowl? Is this a thing?

LinkyPlease · 24/02/2018 19:00

Vango and chocolateporridge did you put him up to this? Is there a washingupbowlnet I don't know about?

OP posts:
Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 24/02/2018 19:01

YABU! Your DP is entirely correct in his sink management.

GreyGardens88 · 24/02/2018 19:01

My ex housemate always used to leave a washing up bowl in the sink full of water, drove me barmy and never understood the point.

Idontdowindows · 24/02/2018 19:02

Who has a hutch specially for their washing up bowl? Is this a thing?

Kitchen cabinet under the sink, holds cleaning things, wipes, sponges, drip tray and washing up bowl. Oh, and in my case also the tray for peelings.

BoreOfWhabylon · 24/02/2018 19:04

That is what I do with mine, saves underneath of bowl sitting in damp and allows everything to dry out.

Mine is not virulent green though. That is a bit thuggish, tbh.
