To find it really irritating when people don't remove the price labels from presents and cards? (Light-hearted.. Sort of)

Is it just me that finds this really annoying? I'm not even sure why.. I guess I was just brought up with the etiquette that it was the height of bad manners to leave it on!

Just received this card in the post from a member of DH's family.. Actually, they are the only ones I know who do it.. It's like.. They've gone to the effort of buying a card/present but they just can't bring themselves to go the next step of removing the price tag.

DISCLAIMER: I am 37 weeks pregnant and suffering with SPD, just spent the last hour battling with my toddler to get them to nap and haven't yet had lunch..

19p!

AlwaysOldBeforeMyTime · 23/02/2018 14:12

Bargain! YANBU with regards to that card as the sticker is completely unmissable! Very odd to send it with that attached

Bluedoglead · 23/02/2018 14:14

My friend does this. So you know she has spent money on you. Or something. It’s very odd.

HollyBayTree · 23/02/2018 14:15

19p - where are they buying these from

asking for a friend Grin

Aeroflotgirl · 23/02/2018 14:16

I agree, it's rude, hers your present, I spent X amount on you.

DaveyouareanuttertwatDave · 23/02/2018 14:17

Card factory does 7 cards for £1....I always stock up when I'm passing one

whatsittoyou · 23/02/2018 14:20

Surely it's just a mistake? Why would anyone actively leave them on? Rude? To make an error when trying to do something nice?! Only on MN!

purplemunkey · 23/02/2018 14:20

It annoys me too but I don't know if that's irrational or not. I too was always taught to remove prices so I don't if it's because it seems lazy maybe? Then lazy AND cheap if it's like the sticker on your card 😆

DeleteOrDecay · 23/02/2018 14:21

YANBU. I get it if the sticker is quite small or not easily visible so it's genuinely missed, but how can you miss that??

purplemunkey · 23/02/2018 14:22

Yes, could me a mistake I suppose. I know people that do this every time I receive a card or guft from them though so I think some people do leave them on on purpose.

jenniuol · 23/02/2018 14:24

Woah yadnbu with that one! How could they miss that Hmm I can see it if it was teeny and on the back. It also annoys me a bit when people do it and I’m not 37 weeks pregnant Grin

Silversun83 · 23/02/2018 14:25

Yes, I think it's the lazy element of it! And don't get me wrong, I am obviously grateful to receive cards and presents and would definitely overlook it if it was a one-off.. But with DH's family, it is literally every single time!

And yes, I believe Card Factory does cards at bargain prices Grin

At risk of being accused of competitive penny-pinching I have just bought 10 cards from The Works for a £1 Grin

Yadnbu, OP. MIL was a shocker for this and it always left me bemused as to why. At least she bought cards with the price on the back which is I suppose some excuse. That one might as well be blinking in neon.

anotherchangetomyname · 23/02/2018 14:53

OMG! Its on the front too! I recently wrote a number of birthday cards (NCT group, all babies birthdays at the same time!) and popped them in the envelope, then realised I hadn't removed the price off some, so I opened them and sellotaped them back down. In my defense they were on the back AND some had the price on the cellophane wrap. YANBU though.

HuskyMcClusky · 23/02/2018 14:56

That’s hilarious! I assumed you meant a small price sticker on the back somewhere. Not that! 😂

Lolly12 · 23/02/2018 15:09

Seems very strange to leave something like this on on purpose! Funny though 😂.

My son once received a birthday present from a friend (who I knew to be well-off), and they’d left a sale sticker on it - for 10p!! I was slightly annoyed/gobsmacked, then impressed with her bargain hunting skills.

Jaygee61 · 23/02/2018 15:20

YANBU. It’s very annoying when the price is printed on as with books.

MaxPepsi · 23/02/2018 15:28

Hmm. I've been known to do this with presents.

I'm a savvy shopper and of the great belief it's the thought that counts, not the price tag.

However some of the people I buy for are of the belief that what matters is how much you spend.

Sooooo, if the price tag is for a higher price than I paid (which it invariably is) and is fairly discreet/easily overlooked I will leave it on for these recipients.

MrEzraGoldberg · 23/02/2018 15:31

The prices are usually on the back of the ones I buy. In which case, it's easy to leave them on by mistake, but to leave a price sticker on the FRONT....How can anyone miss that??

MrEzraGoldberg · 23/02/2018 15:32

Sheer laziness!

Anxiousally · 23/02/2018 15:35

I hold my hands up and say I have a few times totally forgotten when the price is on the back but it's on the front can't miss it Grin

Drivemecrazy1974 · 23/02/2018 15:36

Weird to leave the price on - although my mum does this A LOT! Think it's laziness in her case though and an I don't give a damn attitude! However, I'm not sure why people are bitching about the price of it - a card, is just a bloody card. It's a piece of card that usually gets thrown away after a couple of weeks! Who cares how much, or in this case, how little it costs?!

Silversun83 · 23/02/2018 18:54

Yes, I also begrudge paying a lot for cards so I don't hold the price against them.. More the fact you can't even read the greeting Grin
