To ask for an explanation re: toilet brushes

I keep seeing them mentioned and wonder whether I am supposed/not supposed to have one.

I personally like those things where you attached a wipe that then flushed away but I don't think they sell those anymore.

Ursula u hold the holder over the toilet as I'm using it. Plus the odd drop on a hard floor would wipe anyway

mypoosmellsofroses · 24/02/2018 08:36

Thanks to this thread I have bought a new silicone bristled toilet brush, it should be delivered today, I'm actually quite excited about it Blush

Happycow · 24/02/2018 10:59

Omg this is the most ridiculous, disgusting, intriguing thread I have ever seen, I love it!!!
Is this thread responsible for the looblade in an earlier post now being sold out everywhere??

lorelairoryemily · 24/02/2018 15:46

@BluePony thanks!! I'm a big fan!!Grin

No toilet brush here. Skids are removed with loo roll or bleach. I would use loo roll to remove marks above the waterline if visiting someone. No need to touch anything with your bare hand, just the paper. Cleaning here is done by hand when it needs it but that isn’t all that often with regular sloshes of bleach.

I don’t accept that bleach doesn’t clean just bleaches any marks. Are you saying the poo is still there just invisible?!

Also those of you saying stand the brush in bleach, what if you have pets or small children? Surely thats not safe? I can just imagine our dogs knocking over loo brushes (especially the cheapo flimsey ones) or heaven forbid running round the house with them or chewing them up! I had been trying 15 years to get my DH to put the toilet seat down but only getting a dog did it. if you leave it up they have a sneaky drink 🤢.

Some people have said on here just thow them away when minging say once a month but what about weeks 3 and 4 when they are not quite minging! Bleugh. And as for putting them in the dishwasher.. that has to be a joke?

ferrier · 25/02/2018 22:42

Had skid marks below the waterline today. How would those be cleaned without a toilet brush?

MyBeloved · 25/02/2018 22:51

My last cleaner insisted on a loo brush. I hate them. If I clean the loo myself I use marigolds, a sponge and bleach. Now I have a new cleaner and a toilet duck flushable pad thingy. All is good with my world again :)

Loo roll then a good hand wash.

FlyingMonkeys · 25/02/2018 23:29

In all fairness if you flush before you "go" it stops a multitude of sins "sticking". Far better to have a manky self contained brush that you're hardly going to touch the business end of to be fair.... on another note I've a DB with some apparent issues that I've known to resort to using a trowel to chop it to the point of flushable Confused Must have been like Nessy popping her head back up to say hello.

ferrier · 26/02/2018 00:40

I'm not willingly going down any loo without my marigolds!

ferrier · 26/02/2018 00:40

@FlyingMonkeys I have a son like that Confused

BarbaraofSevillle · 26/02/2018 13:30

If you don't have a loo brush, what do you use to ram the poo down with when it won't flush

That's what I want to know, and no-one has said how, apart from chopping up with a trowel Confused, which is far worse surely.

Maybe this is the answer...

MyBeloved · 26/02/2018 22:40

Surely if you ram the floater down with the brush, you will end up with poo chunks in the bristles?

Urgghhh Envy

Haven't read full thread but it does seem to be an epic divide between those of us who live in Hard Water and those of us who don't. I'm in Hard Water. Loo brush is utterly indispensable (although replaced regularly).

Pfftkids · 26/02/2018 22:53

I'm Team Poo Brush!

I'm not sticking my hand down the bog to clean Mr Pffts skids off

Eliza9917 · 05/03/2018 14:19

I just bought a new loo brush. Replaced it with a normal one from the pound shop. Job done.

I'm a loo brush fan. It's good for skids and it gets a good clean! Daily bleach of the entire bowl above and below water, scrub and then flush, with the brush under the running water. The brush stand has a drop of bleach or disinfectant in it and I get a new loo brush once a quarter on the first of the month. Helps me remember to get a new one.
