AIBU?

To sneak snacks into the cinema

I haven't been on MN in ages so don't know if this has been done recently. Just wondering if you think it's ok to take your own snacks to the cinema? I've never done it before but we are moving house next week so things are a little tight but I promised the girls a cinema trip during half term. Could do without the £10 for a popcorn and fruitshoot. They don't drink juice anyway so was thinking of taking their water bottles and stopping by the shop for a £1 bag of popcorn and some chocolate buttons, AIBU?

I've never seen any signs that suggest you can't bring your own snacks in. I never buy the snacks on offer at the cinema as they cost a fortune!

The only problem I can see with smuggling a pizza in is the size of the square box.
I am sure I would think of a way round it though.

We took the kids on Valentine's Day and realised subway were doing buy one get one free. So our cinema trip was accompanied by a full on subway feast, with cookies and drinks for under £10! Tea and cinema (tickets were free with our life insurance) sorted for under £10! Cheapest valentines night ever!

I always take our own snacks (in my bag, not openly carrying them), I refuse to pay cinema prices.

There's a sign outside ours saying no food or drink so I always feel guilty. And they sometimes bag search, but there's a security guard doing that so he's looking for bombs not chocolate.

Usually I take in water and sweets but one time we'd been shoe shopping and it took ages so we only had time to rush to McDonald's before the film started, and the kids hadn't finished eating ... so I had to smuggle in their happy meals in the new shoe boxes in the end and they thought it was the best thing ever.

Yeah cheers for that Chardonnay, clearly says I'm taking my girls for a treat. Let's not buy them a small snack for the movie shall we? Hmm

Our local sainsburys is opposite the cinema and they have all the grab bags of sweets/popcorn etc in one aisle exactly for that purpose. I think that pizza etc is a step too far as it’s not a restaurant and is unsociable but given the choice between paying £5 for popcorn in the cinema and 99P in Sainsburys the cinema are having a laugh if they think people should feel obliged to pay those prices.

Great idea afromom, certainly easier than a pizza.

I've been taking a thermos of coffee to mini mornings at Vue - surely I can't be expected to sit through whatever animated shite they have on a sunday morning uncaffeinated? Shock

I do, I simply cannot afford £14 on two box of popcorn and two drinks, its marked up so much. We go to the junior showings and I take a rucksack with them in, and put them in plastic bags so they don't make a rustling noise.

Deshasafraisy

I went to see the mercy and someone had a whole bag of m and s food. They had sandwiches, crisps, popcorn etc etc. They ate really noisily for the duration of the film. Lovely for them but ruined it for me!

I somehow manage without food for a couple of hours

There is always fucking one isn't there?

I bet your life is a barrel of laughs if you begrudge two small children a treat in the cinema.

Always do it but make sure you hide them in a rucksack cos I got rumbled onCe when I turned up with snacks in a carrier bag. They wouldn't let me take them in

The snacks are for the kids, film goes hand in hand with snacks and drink its all part of the enjoyment. Yes there is always one.

I buy tickets then go next door to home bargains and load up on sweets and drinks.

Unlike some I can’t cope without constantly throwing food and drink down my neck Wink

I wouldn't dream of paying cinema prices for snacks. I nip to the One Stop and stock up on anything that's a quid then fork out for a Costa coffee..Job done !

always take in our own snacks. I remember about 15 years ago when dh and I were in dating mode dh one of our first dates was to the cinema. dh didnt really go to the cinema so not aware to the prices and decided to get a pic n mix. A large bag of pic n mix. Which when weighed came to just over £29. Dh was too embarrassed to put it back so just paid. We still laugh about it to this day.

We take water bottles for the kids and grapes. We do however tend to go for a pizza meal deal after (£6.95 for a 3 course child's meal and drink, sometimes even better value with special offers).

One time we got a very good deal at Prezzo, but the kids had not finished their puddings in time for the film; they got little boxes to eat in the cinema. They were very happy.

Pisses me right off to be honest- if they didn’t over inflate their prices so much they’d sell more and let’s face it popcorn is quite possibly one of the cheapest snacks going. No yanbu

I know, £30p for a bag op popcorn kernals that you pop at home.
