AIBU to be annoyed by them???

It’s written on the packet. I can’t really understand why people are so annoyed. “I bought this cream substitute by accident and it was shit” seems like fairly average stuff. Getting angry about it seems odd; having consumed enough of it while not liking it that you feel aggrieved is just WTAF territory.

Why would you imagine you can make any kind of objective pronouncment about it?

Oh the irony.....

TheoGB · 21/02/2018 08:38

The family are all fantastically well, thank you BoreOfWhabylon!

And yes, I really can't recommend the Early Learning Centre Science Oven highly enough - it's proved very popular in the GB household.

Oh the irony

there wasn't any in the quoted post. You must be confused

calmandbright · 21/02/2018 09:03

I rarely buy cream but when I do I tend to buy the shop own brand. I don’t think I’ve ever bought Elmlea BUT if there was no own brand I’d probably grab it. I had NO IDEA it was a substitute Shock

BarbaraofSevillle · 21/02/2018 09:06

Is there even such a thing as branded cream, apart from clotted? I thought it was all supermarket own label?

coconutlimesmoosh · 21/02/2018 09:18

there are loads of brands of cream. Why wouldn't there be?

BoreOfWhabylon · 21/02/2018 09:21

TheoGB Grin

BarbaraofSevillle · 21/02/2018 09:24

Well if you look on all the main supermarket websites, I can only see own brand, Longley Farm and Yeo valley, so hardly 'loads of brands of cream'.

And as we have already established, Elmlea IS NOT CREAM.

StormTreader · 21/02/2018 09:51

"Then I looked and the ingredients include tree lard, I mean palm oil. So nope."

Oh no, how disappointing! They put that nasty crap in everything now, thats another childhood food off my shopping list then.

LakieLady · 21/02/2018 10:20

My idiot ex came home with some Elmlea when cream had been on the shopping list. He didn't understand why I was pissed off, so I made a rice pudding with it by way of demonstration.

Watching him try and pretend it was just as nice as usual was quite amusing.

TattyFrench · 21/02/2018 10:25

I always assumed it was cream too. It looks like cream and is next to the cream. That'll teach me to make assumptions. Bit sneaky though, I know, now, that is says 'alternative' to cream but if I didn't have my glasses on I'd pick it up thinking it was cream.
I've just looked on Ocado and Elmlea is in the 'cream' section, although it does clearly say it's s cream alternative.

Could be worse. I went to a corner shop near my folks' for some cream for a recipe. The lady asked if I wanted Tip Top or squirty.

MardAsSnails · 21/02/2018 15:27

I'd never realised it wasn't cream, but i never buy cream because i don't like it (unless making dauphinoise, and i buy waitress essentials cream for that)

There again, maybe I do. It was always elmlea growing up. Maybe I like actual cream.

Ifailed · 21/02/2018 15:48

If I'm having cream I always choose Elmlea because it's not cream

Think this pretty well sums up this thread.

Next thing people will be expressing surprise that an Oxo cube isn't made from boiled up cattle.

LittleDoritt · 21/02/2018 16:34

I never knew it wasn't cream. I must be thick as mince.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 21/02/2018 16:51

Or if soya milk was put next to regular milk.

I wish all supermarkets would do that as I'm fed up with searching for it!

Elmlea tastes the same as cream to me!

SkaPunkPrincess · 21/02/2018 17:54

um ifailed yes there is actual beef fat and dried beef bone stock in a Oxo cube.
😒

silentpool · 22/02/2018 03:57

Well I guess they have their next marketing slogan sorted, "I can't believe it isn't cream..." That is, if they want to be honest to customers.

TheMaddHugger · 22/02/2018 04:30

I had to Google it, Have never seen of it before [elmlea]

RemainOptimistic · 22/02/2018 05:12

Elmlea has made it into my house at least 3 times over the years, all by accident Angry it is foul.

I've bought it once by mistake, NEVER AGAIN.

DH has bought it twice despite being told!

The packaging is misleading. I wonder what percentage of Elmlea is bought by mistake. Going by the number of accidental purchases on this thread I'd have to guess at least 20%!

MotherofaSurvivor · 22/02/2018 05:24

@Littlepleasures What on earth were you doing with butter whilst drunk?

kubex · 22/02/2018 05:36

Who cares - cream is basically a disgusting mix of hormones, blood and pus anyway.

@safariboot do you actually think palm oil is worse than the dairy?

Roystonv · 22/02/2018 05:37

Well this has me shocked quite taken in by Elmlea over my nearly 60 years and have to admit I think it's fine but only butter will do would rather have holes in bread than eat plastic. And these bloody dancing clothed animals at the bottom of my screen advertising goodness knows what can f**k right off!

MysteriesOfTheOrganism · 22/02/2018 05:47

I have just discovered that chicken is made from... chickens. Why did nobody tell me?!? Wink

Ifailed · 22/02/2018 06:12

there is actual beef fat and dried beef bone stock in a Oxo cube
4.5%. The other 95.5% is not beef!
