Has anyone ever used them? I need carpet laid on my stairs and can't afford to buy carpet and pay for someone to lay it. I came across pay weekly carpets which means only paying £10 a week but aibu in thinking it seems to good to be true? Has anyone used them?

All the have-it-now, pay-it- back in weekly/monthly/annual/instalments whatever lot are rip off shysters. OP you sound like a sensible person, just save a little bit for a deposit, and meanwhile keep destructababy well away from damage zone.

Cockmagic · 21/02/2018 07:58

A long shot but some LA offer tenants a semi furnished add on.
Would that be applicable?
New carpets or lino for £10 weekly. It's council scheme so check yours.

Instead of pay weekly, can you not save up and order from something like this site

www.moreforyourfloor.co.uk/carpets.html?dir=asc&limit=28&order=price&p=2

We used them a few years ago when on a tight budget, got a 4x7 metre decent carpet for bout 60 quid.

ThisLittleKitty · 26/02/2018 21:15

Thanks Brazzle but I'm really not sure how to measure stair carpet so wouldn't know what to order.

Carpetright offer 4 years interest free you are better off going to them.

CakeAndChocolate · 26/02/2018 21:28

SCS do carpets and also offer interest free credit (minimum spend of £310, whereas carpet right have a minimum spend of £500)

Whycantithinkofaname · 26/02/2018 21:38

I've ordered through them. £390 for my living room that's with underlay, the carpet sample looked of decent quality. I paid £40 deposit and have to pay £60 on the day of the fitting. I ordered months ago but haven't actually got round to the fitting as I may be moving again so want to wait until I'm in a new house. The thing that put me off is that I have to pull the old carpet up and move all the furniture from the room myself. I don't have a partner so asked if the person fitting would be able to help me shift it on the day and was told no. Fair enough but I have a small house and all the furniture would have to sit outside until the carpet is down there is no way I can do this on my own. So not actually sure what I will do when it comes to fitting as they don't work weekends and have no one around to help me during the week. I understand it's not their job to help but from speaking to a few other people who have bought carpets elsewhere they've told me the carpet fitters have always been happy to help shift the furniture. I don't know if this is standard I rent privately so have never had to have a carpet fitted.

ThisLittleKitty · 26/02/2018 22:02

Argh that's not good that they won't help out. I need to replace my bedroom carpet in the future but dreading it as have to get my bed out the room and to do that the whole thing will need to be dismantled to fit through the door so can't even be bothered. But I feel your pain.

It's worth buying the gripper rods and underlay yourself.

I paid £30 for a box of rods (only needed half the box), but Carpet right were quoting me £70 for them. The same with underlay, I bought much better quality underlay, but for less than the cheapest one in the shop.

i saw one of their van outside an neighbours today i think its an great idea they dont credit check you and there is no intrest charges either they give you £400 in credit im going to use them as i would like the laminate it looks like laminate anyway lol im going to contact them my friend they are ok and you pay £10 an week at leastit makes it affordable for people who cant afford to pay for the carpet up front x

kylie123 · 16/04/2018 19:03

I have just had them out today paid £40 deposit took card number and expiry date to take £10 per week. Just properly read all the paper work and it states your basically renting the flooring and you get a minimum term to rent for which is how ever long it takes to pay off it does state though you pay £1 a year after that is paid off not sure why that is can anyone that's had it confirm?

marioncr · 16/04/2018 19:39

i know someone who has used them they are an real company you pay for the fitting upfront i believe but its not that expensive i think its from £40 to £80 im thinking about using them myself as i need new flooring for my front room regards marion

BiddydeBint · 16/04/2018 19:45

Can't you buy some nice offcut from your local carpet warehouse and find a handyman to stick it down? Ask on Facebook. My friend did this. Her carpet and underlay cost £80 and she went on fb and offered £50 to someone who could fit it. It looks good and it was good hard-wearing carpet too

FissionChips · 16/04/2018 19:54

A quick google shows multiple poor reviews,- deposits taken and no carpet arriving, poorly fitted, more money taken than should have etc.

Downtheroadfirstonleft · 17/04/2018 21:01

Just save up and buy some decent carpet when you can afford it.

marioncr · 18/04/2018 11:20

pay weekly dont charge interest if you read their thing online it tells you that its just something that is affordable for people on low incomes

marioncr · 18/04/2018 11:21

there is another pay weekly on fb and he is an scam so he could be the one with poor reviews he has the same name

ballito7 · 29/05/2018 18:47

Love used them and after arguing with them and having the carpet fitter return and fix the problem this is what i am left with and was told this is how it is supposed to look like. When ever i hoover the whole square of the carpet lifts up and also the carpet is rippled on stairs and lifts up. The carpet has not been stretched hence the ripple effect. There is alot more wrong and have complained but the general manager in swindon Richard said there is nothing wrong with the carpet 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

walm · 28/09/2023 12:59

I've used Easipay Carpets - the rep I saw had different sets of carpets with different quality/value and the cheaper options were still really nice feeling. They didn't do a credit check on me and they don't charge interest like a lot of places - we priced up with Tapi and Carpetright as well and Easipay were actually cheaper! Had my stairs, landing and living room done!

Dingle66 · 19/01/2024 13:25

Please help I live in a flat so yes ido need stair carpet but I've had message from a perso called jason and in regular contact and then ias the other pay weekly on FB and they have given me know date and they are telling me the other one who heeps in touch and given me a date is saying it's a scam what do i do

RmxJ1809 · 11/12/2024 15:18

This might seem a bit condescending but;;;
Ive been in my flat 2 years. At the time ALL my money was going on literal essentials like duvets and food and ovens and washing machines. So i had concrete flooring.
The concrete was dusty; cold; difficult to clean; and felt like hell.
No money saved up; couldnt even pay the deposit for pay weekly floors; vouldnt afford lino scraps.
Did all the hacks. Painted the floors ; that helped for a bit. Got cheap rugs; but it looked tacky and unfinished; grouted stick and peel tiles to the hallway; looked fabulous... for 4 months now the tiles have chunks missing; I even went to habitat for humanity to get cheap laminate; £30 a box down to £5 a boc; learnt to fit it myself; sawed it myself; and it looked great too; until the laminate swelled and the mismatched colour affected me.

I did the saving too. Got my floors wuoted to be £600. I saved multipled times rhe most I ever got to was £450; i thought do one room at a time but couldnt choose ehich room to do kept wanting to do cheaper or private; took too ling and an emergency like the car wpuld ruin the whole thing.

I finally have about a thousand pound. I could go spend 600-800 on a priavte fitter that may take longer; charge me: or could give me a really good price. Who knows?

But my choice now is pay weekly. All the charges on it seem measly compared to what Ive saved. And the money will go in the credit union Ill take a tenner out a week to pay the floors but hopefully be able to save atleast 20 a month anyways now! If i pay it off credit will go up; i can get floors done at different times; can do blinds or furniiture! Who wouldnt...

In the meantime yes Im in debt .. im paying someone back for the lixury of getting to keep the money in my bank. But Ive just oaid off other plans so I know I can do it. Then worse comes to; that money can be used in a car emergency etc or atleast sit in credit union for a while.

It just works better for me than handing over all my savings. And its quicker they do so many people a week. Set prices; all of us low income; less likely.ill be scammed tban if me as an unemployed young female eith no knowledge of house diy and floors ill get mugged off.
