During half term/did during half term?

OP posts:

Yes, it’s a full report. It means they can act on what we’ve said as advice to improve. Then we do a short summary in the summer to say whether they got there or not. It works pretty well.

My neighbour is a teacher and yesterday I popped round to discover her Answering Her Door. Amazing really.

I am not a teacher but today I Answered My Door too. Therefore this is proof that there is no difference between teachers and non teachers.

I had my half term last week. We went on an awesome road trip around Northern Thailand.

Gide · 21/02/2018 15:18

Spent a week in Paris with 30 odd kids. I now have marking overflowing and am ill.

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 21/02/2018 15:34

Half term this week and I spent Monday in school, Tuesday 8-11pm marking and planning and will do another few hours tonight once DS2 is in bed.

I'm lucky because I teach part time so there's less of everything that makes me dislike the job but I still feel torn between being a parent and wanting actual quality time with my own DC and needing to be good at my job because my self-esteem is tied up in it. It's a bit of an ongoing battle, tbh, and not one that appears to be getting any easier.

FartnissEverbeans · 21/02/2018 16:24

I'm a secondary teacher overseas and I don't take any work home with me any more.

My timetable is a lot lighter than it was in the U.K. and my classes are much smaller; I've also been here a few years now so I have most of my resources prepared for each unit we teach.

I love my job. I've had jobs in the U.K. which were much, much harder, so UK teachers have my sympathies.

tillytrotter1 · 21/02/2018 16:29

Can one assume that Vicars will be cross-examined by the OP about what they do outside 11am-12.15pm on Sundays? Maybe her agenda doesn't include Vicars as they don't provide free child-care. Unless you've actually done a job then you have little idea of what it involves.

Ohyesiam · 21/02/2018 16:50

My oh marked lots of test papers. Reviewed a topic he is teaching year13 this term. Did lots of planning. He worked about 25 hours.

EnormousDormouse · 21/02/2018 16:55

A week chilling in Kerala. Bloody lovely. I teach overseas, and plan to never teach in the UK again.

HerSymphonyAndSong · 21/02/2018 17:09

tillytrotter1 The OP has said she is a teacher herself

NelleB · 21/02/2018 17:14

Suffering with a kidney infection that I should have had sorted last week but didn’t due to the guilt of staying off.

Piggywaspushed · 21/02/2018 17:23

But paradise did you not know that in real life some people find Answering Doors so much harder than teachers could ever begin to realise? Our doors are so much easier to open than we think. All teachers ever do is moan about answering doors.

LokiBear · 21/02/2018 18:16

My half term was last week. I did two days worth of GCSE marking, one 6 hour rehearsal for my pupils GCSE practical exam and the test of the time I just enjoyed time with my kids. No planning because I'd managed to get it all done before half term.

manicinsomniac · 21/02/2018 18:27

Gosh, you lot work hard!

Mine was last week.

Work wise I just did some marking, choreography, production planning and ran a one day performing arts course.

The rest of the time I went to the theatre twice, went to meet up with friends in London and Oxford, went to/took my children to various dance classes and workshops and went on a hen weekend. Oh, and slept!

FluffyMcCloud · 21/02/2018 18:39

I was ill all over half term ☹️

CanIBuffalo · 21/02/2018 18:46

Catching up with appointments and house stuff and sewing.
Today I have finally perfected my shift dress toile after many adjustments and tomorrow I'll be starting making dresses and tops from it.
Teachers aren't paid for holidays so I avoid working during them whenever I can.
