Triangle cut sandwiches taste better than rectangle cut ones. gavel

They are scientifically proven* to be easier to eat as the pointy end is more mouth sized.
Vogue said they look better too**

*by me, testing many sandwiches whilst wearing a dressing gown lab coat

**maybe

What about toast? Triangles and PUT INTO A NAICE TOAST RACK taste so much nicer than just rectangles.

BigChocFrenzy · 19/02/2018 16:27

All you wicked crust-mutilators Shock just STOP
Crusts are the best bits

I've always hated posh parties with castrated sarnies

Oh it definitely depends on the fillings.

For hot fillings like bacon, sausage, chips etc it needs to be rectangles.
For all other fillings it needs to be triangles.

macnab for prime minister.

Triangles! Always. Last year my husband brought me a sandwich cut in half in rectangles. I just took one look and said "you don't actually expect me to eat that, do you?" At which point there was an argument about me never eating a triangular sandwich before!! We've been married 33 years, I do not eat rectangle sandwiches, they don't taste as good.

Growing up I hated when my mum bought that Scottish loaf, plain was it? Tall, no crusts on the side, burnt top. Then always made sandwiches with it and cut it into thirds. I always got the burnt top one. Hated it! And didn't give a bugger if I had to "eat it so your hair curls" as even as a bairn I knew that was a lie!!

LegallyBrunet · 19/02/2018 16:54

YES, THANK YOU!!!!!! FINALLY SOMEONE WHO AGREES!!!!!! I think I might actually have to show this thread to my mum, the amount of arguments we had over triangles/rectangles is not healthy.

AnthonyJoshuasMrs · 19/02/2018 16:56

My son went through a phase of insisting on a gingerbread man cutter being Used on every sandwich. So he has a person shaped sandwich, and a sandwich with a person shaped hole. I envy those who have only the simple choice of triangle vs rectangle, M&S don’t do a person shaped sandwich and not a sign of one in the boots meal deal either, tsk.

JumpingFrogs · 19/02/2018 16:56

I once got told off by a school dinner lady because my mum had cut my sandwiches into triangles. Her exact words were "tell your mum to give you rectangular sandwiches like everyone else"... think she thought my mum had ideas above her station! My son used to throw spectacular tantrums if his sandwiches were cut the wrong way (which was inevitably whichever shape I'd just cut them into!) I could cope if he wanted triangles instead of square, but the other way round was harder to rectify!

CocoLoco87 · 19/02/2018 16:58

Yes triangles are the right way. However if it's a marmite sandwich then it needs to be cut into squares.

SilentBob · 19/02/2018 17:02

Hmmm, I run a cafe and have a system:

Rectangles are: general breakfast items- Sausage, bacon, eggs etc.

Triangles are: any cold sandwich, club and blt.

Open cheese on toast is triangular. Scrambled or poached eggs on open toast- rectangular.

It makes sense in my head, honest it does.

AdaColeman · 19/02/2018 17:04

Gentleman's Relish on toast has to be cut into fingers.

Thistlebelle · 19/02/2018 17:04

All this crust hatred is surprising. Do you really all leave the crusts? Confused

That’s the best bit!

butterfly990 · 19/02/2018 17:31

My mother never let me have triangle sandwiches Sad

BigChocFrenzy · 19/02/2018 17:49

Exactly thistle !
I eat crusts, leave the middles

I like to chew < bares fearsome gnashers >

CupOfJoe · 19/02/2018 18:01

I can't think of any filling that justifies rectangles. None.

DaftCat · 19/02/2018 18:41

My husband likes rectangles but rectangles cut the wrong way
So you have your rectangular uncut sandwich. Normal people, wanting to cut it into smaller rectangles would cut in the middle of the longest side, therefore making two squat rectangles. DH cuts in the middle of the shortest side. The top of the bread of you see what I mean. Meaning hIs sandwiches are long skinny rectangles.
I fear he’s a psychopath.

ABypassRunsThroughIt · 19/02/2018 18:50

Yes, triangle sarnies easier to eat and look nicer too. I am with a ACupofJoe in that I find rectangular sarnies repulsive.

ABypassRunsThroughIt · 19/02/2018 18:51

Butterfly Why ever not? Waht ddi your mum have against traingular sarnies?

Thewindsofchange · 19/02/2018 20:50

The thing I hate about triangular sandwiches is when the bread is the wrong shape (is not square) so you end up with two short, squat triangles and two long, thin triangles. Angry

butterfly990 · 19/02/2018 21:21

I think I wasn't allowed triangular sandwiches as I used the fatal words "everyone else has ...." Sad

So my DC get traingle or rectangle to their hearts content, but I do draw the line at my DS (9) who wants them cut into 8ths. Grin

ineedamoreadultieradult · 19/02/2018 21:24

Bacon sandwiches 2 rectangles
Any soft filling like Coronation Chicken, egg mayo etc is 4 triangles
Basic meat of cheese sandwich 4 squares
Cheese on toast is eaten whole

starsorwater · 19/02/2018 21:25

Fingers are best.

Nyetimber · 19/02/2018 21:27

Finger sandwiches with tea.

Hohofortherobbers · 19/02/2018 21:50

In our house triangle sandwiches are 'hotel style' reserved for guests and posh fillings.

frasier · 19/02/2018 21:56

Triangles here. Is it a geographic thing? I’m in the South. Cousins in the North refuse to cut sandwiches into triangles.
