To think sandwiches should be cut into triangles?

Triangle cut sandwiches taste better than rectangle cut ones. gavel

They are scientifically proven* to be easier to eat as the pointy end is more mouth sized.
Vogue said they look better too**

*by me, testing many sandwiches whilst wearing a dressing gown lab coat

**maybe

You are all BU. They are best in 4 quarters in squares. Especially peanut butter.

BaldricksTrousers · 19/02/2018 12:25

My mother always cut my sandwiches into rectangles, younger me didn't even know you could cut then into triangles. I feel cheated a bit tbh. She could have at least given me a choice.

phoenixtherabbit · 19/02/2018 12:25

triangles are more appealing, but i'm I'm making a sandwich for myself (or ds) then I do 4 little squares. Grin

dontquotemeondailymail · 19/02/2018 12:37

YES to folded jam sandwiches! Takes me right back to being a child and being looked after by mum

SaucyJack · 19/02/2018 12:40

Squares are easier if you've got the traditional four slices of cucumber or tomato in there.

Onlyoldontheoutside · 19/02/2018 13:00

Good point about the chip butties,DD and I have decided that triangles in quarters are party food.We do mostly triangles but only cut into halves not quarters.Dd is now going to cut her sandwich into little squares!

Jaygee61 · 19/02/2018 13:03

Triangles here including toast. They look more appetizing.

Firesuit · 19/02/2018 13:12

They feel like they've got less crust. Complete illusion of course.

They may have the same amount of crust, but they have a longer non-crusty edge.

(I don't know if some people think this is a benefit.)

For a square loaf where a side is 1 unit, the perimeter of rectangular sandwhich halves is 0.5+1+0.5+1 = 3. The perimeter of triangular halves is 1+1+sqrt(2) = 1+1+1.4 = 3.4. If they do dry out quicker, I wonder if this is why? (Seems like a marginal factor to me.)

oohyoudevilyou · 19/02/2018 13:17

Triangles drying out quicker may be due to the habit of standing triangle quarters on their backs, points upwards: Means a larger surface area of non-crust-protected sandwich is exposed to the air.

meredintofpandiculation · 19/02/2018 13:47

Savoury sandwiches - triangles
Sweet sandwiches - squares
Yes, that makes sense! I think you have the answer there.

meredintofpandiculation · 19/02/2018 13:49

They may have the same amount of crust, but they have a longer non-crusty edge. Yes of course. If you want to minimise the crusty:plain edge ratio, and the total amount of crust is fixed, then you do it by increasing the amount of plain edge. Explains why triangle quarters have more plain edge than crust.

ShowMeTheElf · 19/02/2018 13:57

it is harder to eat a triangular sandwich single handed without the filling falling out of the pointy corners.
If I'm making a lot of sandwiches I'll do triangles so that everyone can see the fillings more easily, but for myself just 2 rectangles per round.

StoatofDisarray · 19/02/2018 14:03

I go for triangles on a plate, rectangles in a lunchbox/on the hoof.

SoupDragon · 19/02/2018 14:21

For a square loaf where a side is 1 unit, the perimeter of rectangular sandwhich halves is 0.5+1+0.5+1 = 3. The perimeter of triangular halves is 1+1+sqrt(2) = 1+1+1.4 = 3.4.

LOLOL

AdaColeman · 19/02/2018 14:32

It depends on the filling.
Smoked salmon or rare beef or prawn cocktail on thin brown bread should be triangles, but bacon or hot sausage on thick white bread should be rectangles.
Cream cheese and cucumber ~ triangles, but thick sliced cheddar and beetroot ~ rectangles.

jimijack · 19/02/2018 14:37

Made a huge mistake.
Don't know what I was thinking.
I question my abilities constantly since the "incident".
Social services are likely to intervene, as are the police, fire service ..oh and land sea and air rescue.

Sigh.
He didn't want squares. Apparently he wanted triangles.

I failed to deliver and so received full consequences to my stupid fucking actions.

Ds, aged 3 should NOT be crossed when it came to sandwich shapes.

Ashamed.

Thistlebelle · 19/02/2018 14:43

I prefer rectangles. Triangles don’t contain equal amounts of filling along their length and fall apart more easily.

Rectangles are nicer and more friendly looking.

Gatehouse77 · 19/02/2018 14:54

Rectangular for packed lunches just because it makes the daily tetris easier.

At home, in (quarter) triangles because it looks better on the plate.

Toast...erm...I don't cut. Usually just fold it so I can catch the drips!

Celticrose · 19/02/2018 14:56

I sometimes after cutting the crusts off cut them into 3 rectangles. They sit nicely on a sandwich plate. Also I once cut sandwiches into 4 rectangles going on a picnic we were staying with my sister in North America and got a right rollicking apparently they were common Hmm

snotato · 19/02/2018 15:05

My dc waste so much good sandwich when they are cut into squares, because they can’t get their mouths right in the corner between the two crusts without risking taking a little nibble of the crust.
When they are cut into triangles,my dc eat right up to the crust.
I always cut sandwiches into triangles.

AdaColeman · 19/02/2018 15:16

snotato Your children will never have curly hair if they don't eat the crusts.

Redpony1 · 19/02/2018 15:18

Triangles. Always triangles!

snotato · 19/02/2018 16:12

AdaColeman I have tried telling them that, but they won’t listen.
They also avoid pizza crusts and the ends of chips i know they are strange
They pick chips up with their fingers and will eat one end of the chip, but the end they hold just gets discarded.

TheChippendenSpook · 19/02/2018 16:14

Jam sandwiches should always be cut into triangles.

iklboo · 19/02/2018 16:17

I'm with Ada that sausage / bacon sandwiches should never be cut into triangles. That would be weird.
