Would the layout of this house put you off?

And if you were being really picky, what work needs done?

Does it having two bedrooms upstairs and two downstairs make it less attractive or desirable?

this house

Final question, do you like it?

Bedrooms downstairs wouldn't bother me, but for that particular layout no easy access to the backgarden would put me off.

gingercat02 · 17/02/2018 11:13

I like the layout but would only work with teens plus aged children for me. I love Ballynahinch so might be a bit biased.
To pp oil fired heating is normal in NI there is no mains gas in most if the country!

5plusMeAndHim · 17/02/2018 11:13

You realise there is a property board? You do not need to clutter up aibu with stuff that clearly doesn't belong

BigSandyBalls2015 · 17/02/2018 11:16

Wow you get a lot for your money! I love it, would suit us perfectly with two teens. They'd have their own rooms downstairs and a snug for gaming/tv/sleepovers without impacting too much on the rest of the house, which is a prob in our small south London semi at the moment.

I'd redo the kitchen and redecorate eventually but it's all very liveable.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 17/02/2018 11:17

Calm the fuck down 5plus Hmm

Mummyoflittledragon · 17/02/2018 11:21

From my POV it’s a lot of house for the money. But then I know nothing about prices in your area. From a personal perspective, I’d rather have the kitchen and living spaces at the back if you have small children so you can keep an eye on them. But I’m sure others would say they’d hate to have bedrooms giving onto the street. And the kitchen is on the side. It really depends upon how long you want to live there and your family needs. At that sort of price, I’d imagine it not necessarily to be your forever home.

Snowysky20009 · 17/02/2018 11:21

I love it!

FernLove · 17/02/2018 11:24

Does the front door open into the kitchen? I think that would put me off.

You can get a lot of Sq. footage for your money which is amazing! Bedrooms downstairs wouldn't bother me but as previous poster's have said I think I would re-jig it a bit. I like my living areas / kitchen to back on to the garden to allow for more open living. Also for some reason having a bathroom on the ground floor is a bit alien to me but you've got one on each floor which is great!

abigailsnan · 17/02/2018 11:25

If you are considering buying it I would certainly go for it,it looks very well maintained throughout and what a fabulous price, here a one bed bungalow similar to mine would cost more than that.
The only thing I would do would be to have double gates to the front of the drive as it is very close to the Road if you have little ones.

LokiBear · 17/02/2018 11:26

Not at all. The house is a bargain.

sixteenapples · 17/02/2018 11:26

No I like it but I think I'd be doing something with the loft as all that eaves storage seems wasteful. You could get another bedroom up there at least with a conversion.

Don't mind downstairs bedrooms. Mine is and it works as I have teens upstairs but I wouldn't have done that with little children.

SisterNotCis · 17/02/2018 11:27

I grew up in a dormer bungalow with similar layout. Brother and I had a bedroom each upstairs and parents had big one downstairs. We were ages 6 & 8yrs when moved there.

I think it's a good family home you're looking at. Snug is a bonus and lots of storage space. I'd buy it.

MrsRyanGosling15 · 17/02/2018 11:27

I thought it was more country places tgat didn't have the gas mains so they had oil. I've always lived in and around Lisburn and Belfast and have always had gas, without any cannisters. I wouldn't even know what to do with oil heating.

Zintox · 17/02/2018 11:28

I don't like it. To me that's a two bed house with a lot of reception rooms or at best a guest suite, and I don't like that the bedrooms downstairs overlook the garden.

The decor is an odd mix of bland and then some rooms are a bit garish.

The living room looks like a corridor rather than a room.

The garden is too sterile and lacks colour and softness.

But I'm sure someone else would love it. And it looks very cheap to me - my friend just sold her three bed ex-council end terrace in southern England for 580k!

DaphneFanshaw · 17/02/2018 11:28

I like it, I do like being on the same floor as my dc but as they get older we will need that less.
It looks like a a lovely family home.

namechangefailed · 17/02/2018 11:34

I like it, though some of the rooms are an odd shape.

Can I ask what is wrong with bedrooms overlooking the back garden? Confused.

The only thing I don't like about the bedrooms being downstairs is whoever has to sleep there will hear anyone banging around upstairs.

ratspeaker · 17/02/2018 11:34

Dont see why the snug couldn't be a bedroom giving you 3 bedrooms on the same floor.

StripySocksAndDocs · 17/02/2018 11:38

No layout wouldn't.

In a house is usually be put off my downstairs bedroom.

But I like bungalows, especially ones that have the bedrooms in an area giving a feel of areas iykwim. That house has the design of a dormer bungalow so works.

ratspeaker · 17/02/2018 11:39

I'm not sure why folk are muttering about the bedrooms overlooking back garden, thats the norm around here, they're usually quieter that way.

I think the layout is flexible

Corcory · 17/02/2018 11:46

I really like it. We have built our own house which is a chalet style so less room up stairs then down. We have 3 bedrooms up stairs and the master down stairs. Our two have lived here since they were tots and we've had no problems at all. I like the snug - ideal playroom etc.
The only thing I would say is that it's disappointing that there's no utility room.
I would maybe remodel the Kitchen/dinning/lounge and knock through the kitchen/dinning room then add a utility to the end the kitchen where the back door is.

Wish I lived somewhere the prices are so low!

fleshmarketclose · 17/02/2018 11:46

I like it, we have a four bed with a downstairs bedroom. Ds was 8 when we moved here and it was never a problem him being downstairs at night. I could move in as it is I'd only be desperate to get rid of some of the grey tbh.

DeathStare · 17/02/2018 11:47

I know PPs have said it might be suitable for families with teenagers, but as a parent of teenagers the "two bedrooms downstairs" layout would put me off as much now as when they were little - just for different reasons. I'd be concerned about them coming and going (or friends coming and going!) without me knowing about it - particularly in the night.

SoupDragon · 17/02/2018 11:48

I'm not sure why folk are muttering about the bedrooms overlooking back garden, thats the norm around here, they're usually quieter that way.

I think it’s because they are downstairs and overlooking the garden. To me it seems better to have living space opening onto the garden rather than bedrooms.

Angrybird345 · 17/02/2018 11:48

4 bed house with driveway under £200k ..... you don’t know what it’s like to live down south!!!!! Barely get a flat for that!!
