...to ask if you have ever broken anything in anger?

Prompted by another thread.

I once smashed nearly every plate in the house because yet again MIL had told me she was coming to visit even though I had said no it wasn't convenient. I had this strange reasoning that if I smashed all the plates she couldn't come because she'd have nothing to eat off.

In my defence I had just had my second mc and although MIL didn't know, she had spouted off about how the daughter of one of her friends must be "infertile" because she had mc.

DH had to hold me down before I started on the cups. And bless him, he cleared up every last shard. He also told MIL not to come and we went away for the weekend (to somewhere with plates!)

I am a thrower Sad although i havent done it for a while. I grew up with a mother that always threw things when she was angry, and i find it hard to control myself sometimes, but i'm getting there. Reading this made me realise its not normal! I threw a toy train at the wall (a heavy diecast metal one) and its left the imprint of a train on the wall. I also threw my son's step for the toilet. Both through frustration with potty training and i hated myself for it Sad i vowed to myself that i wouldn't do it in front of my kids again and i haven't, i don't want them to be scared of me or think i'm a psycho!

I smashed my mug. It was huge and had my initial on it. Completely out of character and I instantly regretted it.

My husband cleaned up the coffee while I sat and cried. I don't even remember why I was so angry!

I have a new, better mug now.

Oh gosh, I think I'm a thrower too. I think that since having a baby and not sleeping properly for a year has made me do it more as I can only remember doing it a handful of times pre-baby. It's not big stuff but sometimes I may throw a dummy across the room or kick a toy box etc, but I've completely stopped doing this in front of my son because I suspect this isn't normal behaviour. My husband saw me chuck a remote control at a wall fairly recently (baby had been ill and screaming for days + not sleeping) and I got annoyed that the batteries were out and I couldn't turn the effing CBeebies off. He looked at me like "wtf" and we had to have a chat about it. I was mightily embarrassed. I'm never aggressive towards anyone and didn't see a problem with me raging by myself but I suppose it does seem a bit worrying especially if there's a child in the house. So I haven't thrown a tantrum for a while now. Halo

I think I have my mum's temper. She never did it in front of us but I've heard plenty of stories of her throwing phones and porcelain cats around back in the day, after losing at Trivial Pursuit... Hmm

hmmm I'm now wondering who I was abusing wen I smashed the cooker and kicked my front door... it was either me, myself & I.
I think it's highly unfair 2 label ALL the women on this thread as abusers wen most haven't hurt anybody, and of those that have hurt some1 imo in most of those cases its been justified.
Also, in the cases of dv, completely 'losing ur shit' could be a turning point for those women. I know for me it was sweeping up the glass from the cooker that made me realise I was sick of cleaning up broken/bloody shit, left the rest of the glass and packed my stuff. Other women in the refuge I went 2 told me it was fighting back that made them think they didn't want to be abusers themselves and that gave them the strength 2 leave.

That's right. I think it's also a reaction to the feeling of being powerless. As a child, I couldn't fight back against my abusive father, and I felt powerless once again, because he was dead. So the bath panels became the target. I was horrified that I'd actually broken them, though.

My ex used the is it that time of the month and I got as far as raising the mug to throw but the glass door behind him stopped me in time.I have some chipped crockery though that I keep and throw against the wall outside when I feel the need.

mumspice · 18/02/2018 13:01

Don't feel you have to justify yourselves because a stranger on the internet has no empathy. Flowers to all that have suffered.

Never but I honestly don’t ever remember being “angry”.

JacquesHammer · 18/02/2018 13:06

Too soon. I get pissed off and annoyed but angry seems very extreme.

I do think I am a very placid person though

RaindropsAndSparkles · 18/02/2018 13:16

Once threw a milk bottle at a wall in sheer frustration. Once cracked a door frame due to slamming door so hard. Once three glass of wine at DH.

DS once thre the remote at the floor and got the tv. He was bloody lucky it was an old tv.
