I was interested in signing up for an initial 3 month contract at my local DL gym but apparently finding out the monthly cost without having to have a face to face chat sales bollocks with someone at the gym.

There's no point them trying to do the hard sell- I know I want to sign up IF the cost is less than £300 for the three months. I don't understand why they don't just say "yes, come down and we'll sign you up" or "it'll be more than that"?!

My non DL outer London peak membership is £54 per month. Nice small gym with large all-year ourdoor tennis, pool, spa, bar, but no kids activities apart from holidays. Kids are £5 each per month if they want to swim, but mine dont use it. Go independent! I cannot believe how much some of these are.

SaltySeaBird · 11/02/2018 21:39

£76 for me, £27 for 5 yo DD, £1 for 2 yo DS. Not including racquets but for use anytime. I’m not sure it’s worth it but I really like it there and go four times a week.

SaltySeaBird · 11/02/2018 21:40

There is little choice where I live - a nice DL and a shabby Bannantynes that I used to be a member of. None of the other gyms have a pool or do the Les Mills classes.

LeslieKnopefan · 11/02/2018 21:41

£135 a month for 3 month contract membership.

This includes racquets. Quite a bit less without.

heyok · 11/02/2018 21:43

What's racquets?

trixymalixy · 11/02/2018 21:44

When I looked into the DL that just opened near us it was the best part of £250 pm for a family membership. It’s insane!

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 11/02/2018 21:44

I recently quit (thank god)... but DH and I were paying 230 a month. Plus swimming lessons. And we never ever went. They were the most expensive swimming lessons ever....

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 11/02/2018 21:44

And they still can’t swim.... Hmm

Tobebythesea · 11/02/2018 21:46

£104 a month in SE. That is for 1 adult, peak time without tennis or towels.

Jenny17 · 11/02/2018 21:53

I think DL do variable price memberships I.e. members in the same club pay different prices. Test it out with a second person going seperately to check prices.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 11/02/2018 21:54

It’s the joining fee that drives me crazy... they were like ‘it’s non negotiable, everyone pays it!’ Then my friend joined and got it waived. Ugh...

Jdabbers · 11/02/2018 21:59

We (DP and I joint membership) pay £170 a month and I make sure that we use it!! That's including tennis court hire

deste · 11/02/2018 21:59

I pay £66 per month but I have a “family and friends” membership.

MimsyFluff · 11/02/2018 22:05

Ours is £30 a month for me, DH, my DM and 3 kids. It's a council run but brand new and amazing.

Sugarhunnyicedtea · 12/02/2018 10:04

If you want a 3 month membership it bumps up the monthly cost. At our one it's around £95 a month on an annual contract, £140 a month on a 3 monthly rolling contract. You also need to be aware of notice periods, you'd have to give notice on the 1st day of the month before you want your membership to end, they're horrendous to escape from!

Ski4130 · 12/02/2018 10:09

£170 pm for 2 x adults, 1 x 13 year old, 10 year old and 7 year old. We're in the Cotswolds.

bruffin · 12/02/2018 10:10

I pay £45 a month for my local council run leisure centre which has a swimming pool. My dh gets a discount on DL but its still twice the price of our LC so really not worth it and its not local to us.

Triskaidekaphilia · 12/02/2018 10:10

I'm not with ours but they told me £72 a month.

BarbaraofSevillle · 12/02/2018 10:15

Depending on where you are, it could be more or less than £300 for three months membership, which I would expect to be more per month than those on annual contracts.

If it's what you want to do, you could always try going along and finding out, and if it is more than £300 for the three months, try negotiating and saying, I can only spend this amount of money, is there anything you can do?

They may be willing to give you a discount, especially if you don't mention that it's likely to be a short term thing because you prefer to exercise outside when the weather is better.

FluffyWuffy100 · 12/02/2018 10:43

7 years ago my DL membership (peak with courts) was over 100 pcm...

Lovemusic33 · 20/12/2018 11:21

Shocked that people are paying so much for gym membership.

I pay £35 for gym and pool membership at my local gym, this gives me half price classes too. No way could I afford £100 a month, I would want a personal trainer for that.

Ta1kinpeace · 20/12/2018 11:29

Every DLL club is a different price
and "legacy" members pay different prices to new ones.

Our membership is over £200 a month and I am entirely happy with that
BECAUSE
I cost up how much it is per swim /per class /per gym workout for each of us, and its not a lot of money.

When we were broke it was the LAST thing I would have cancelled because its unlimited usage
