To ask how much your David Lloyd gym membership is?

I was interested in signing up for an initial 3 month contract at my local DL gym but apparently finding out the monthly cost without having to have a face to face chat sales bollocks with someone at the gym.

There's no point them trying to do the hard sell- I know I want to sign up IF the cost is less than £300 for the three months. I don't understand why they don't just say "yes, come down and we'll sign you up" or "it'll be more than that"?!

We're in London and members at our local David Lloyd. Every month we pay £78 per adult, £25 per child over 5. That doesn't include the use of tennis courts for the adults (it does for the kids). We have to pay £10 each if we want to pay. A membership with tennis included is £98 per adult a month.
Our DL club membership includes use of indoor and outdoor kids play area, all gym lessons, indoor and outdoor pool and adults only spa area. There is also a bowling alley, hairdressers, massage parlour and sports medicine clinic on site.

PenguinsandPandas · 11/02/2018 19:57

I think at DL the adults were effectively subsidising the kids membership, our membership was about £200pm for 2 adults , 2 kids but kids were only about £25 each of that and got to go to about 10 hours of clubs a week each plus swimming and tennis. Fine for us as we are a family but caused some moaning amongst the elderly members.

PenguinsandPandas · 11/02/2018 19:59

Ours also had soft play for kids.

Way to get reduced prices is to resign your membership wait a month and they give you deals to return. We also used to get free adult tennis for DH as they would let us book in kids names.

PenguinsandPandas · 11/02/2018 20:02

We had free towels in ours but depends on membership.

clary · 11/02/2018 20:10

Wow some of these are expensive and some a bargainous!

My issue us that I don't use the gym and never get round to going to classes; I love to swim so I am a member at the council pool (pool always better than DL pool imo) which costs £30 pm which I think is far too much. I swim 3-4 times a week tho so it's cheaper.

our local Nuffield (was Virgin) is £50 for the pool alone so a lot more, not worth it even if the availability is better.

clary · 11/02/2018 20:12

When I say the pool membership is cheaper, I mean I would pay £4 a time without the membership so it's worth it.

MrsJoshDun · 11/02/2018 20:13

My DL is more than yours Bayliss, and doesn’t have half your facilities and isn’t in London. Far more northern. Maybe it’s the lack of local competition. Saying that there’s a good gym in town with a better pool, bigger gym which is half the price. Sadly it’s the wrong side of town for me.

Anonpost · 11/02/2018 20:17

85 a month for me, 25 for dd plus an additional 30ish for swimming lessons. Well worth it imo.

ButtMuncher · 11/02/2018 20:28

Shit the bed, that's some steep prices 😫 I pay £42 on peak for Bannatynes. We have a DL but it's way out of the area for me. I miss the days of the 24/7 gym for £12.99 😭

fromnowhere · 11/02/2018 20:37

Anyone a member of the Sidcup David Lloyd (SE London) and willing to say how much a month for one adult? Thanks.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 11/02/2018 20:43

I don’t go to a gym, but do a range of exercise classes at a few venues. You can do as many or as few as you want to. Less than £30 a month on the south coast.

Snookerwidow · 11/02/2018 20:44

I used to pay £92.50 pcm and £26 each for my two kids.
DL is expensive but it’s the only club that accommodates the kids. Everywhere else seems to be adult only.
I’m tempted to re join but not sure I can justify the price. Has anyone found Nuffield or Virgin to be as good for kids aged around 9-11?

Adelie0404 · 11/02/2018 20:46

Gosh, I pay £35 a month for local gym. NHS discount.
Wouldn't pay more, get all i need.

dairymilkmonster · 11/02/2018 20:50

£160 here for 2 adults, 2 kids and a nanny. We get nhs discount .

PenguinsandPandas · 11/02/2018 20:51

We looked at Virgin and kids could swim or use the gym but no playcentre or social area which was one of the main benefits to us plus further away. It is worth looking round and does depend on the club and how you use them though. Mine are more into trampoline parks in the winter and canoeing in the summer and with longer school hours at secondary couldn't get to DL as much so cancelled.

QuiteCleanBandit · 11/02/2018 20:52

People pay £300 a month and its full of kids !!
Bloody hell no chance.
I pay £29 pm and its bliss ,quiet and lovely.

dairymilkmonster · 11/02/2018 20:53

oh i should say we have stuck with DL because of the kids classes, play areas (indoor and out), small numbers in swimming lessons (ds had 16 in his class at local ex council pool, 3-4 at DL), huge clean dry changing rooms and creche when they were little.
Plus family membership at ex council gym (fusion) is still expensive £1800/yr) for overcrowded grubby facilities without the kids stuff.

OliviaBonas · 11/02/2018 20:56

£90 a month not including tennis. I go most days though to justify the cost.

PrimalLass · 11/02/2018 20:57

I would pay for DL again if we had one close. But you have to be prepared to practically live there. Plus we would be there for the tennis so it would be even more.

baylisbaylis · 11/02/2018 21:17

We have a few others within reasonable distance MrsJosh and they're just as expensive but with half the facilities and not as nicely done up, much older facilities.
I wouldn't pay this much and go to those!

veuveo · 11/02/2018 21:25

£165 per month
1 adult 1 child

Do I win? Ripped off award?!

Grumpbum · 11/02/2018 21:28

£98 a month with NHS discount in Hampshire

busyboysmum · 11/02/2018 21:30

I love our DL. Mine is about £85 a month I think. Well worth it for me as I'm there most days.

Snookerwidow · 11/02/2018 21:30

How do you get an NHS discount?

veuveo · 11/02/2018 21:32

Actually I've just realised maybe mine still includes my husband. In which case I've been overpaying for 3 years.
