school toilet policy

beclev24 · 09/02/2018 17:12

This is making my DS (aged 7) v anxious so trying to get a read on whether it is genuinely an unreasonable policy or more just him.

In his class, they are only allowed to go to the toilet once per day in lesson time. If they go more than this, they miss 5 mins of break. This feels unfair to me, as they can't help how often they need to go/ they are still young and often can't hold it and it causes unnecessary anxiety for some kids/ it seems like a punishment for something they can't necessarily control. Not to mention the fact that some kids (like my DS but I'm sure many others too) really need htat running around time at break. I'm thinking of complaining to the school but before I do....

AIBU?

How weird. I can assure you that I am not that person!

Bluedoglead · 09/02/2018 18:33

Of course you’re not.

The toilet troll said that the last time too.

beclev24 · 09/02/2018 18:34

I don't know what's going on here, but people obviously think that I'm someone that I'm not. It's starting to creep me out, so I'm out of here. thanks for the responses.

No teacher on this earth keeps a tally of who's been to the toilet and who hasn't Hmm. Ffs!

Bluedoglead · 09/02/2018 18:36

Awh bless.

Don’t let the —toilet— door bang your arse on the way out.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 09/02/2018 18:36

It's starting to creep everybody out, dear. So stop.

mcgoogleismename · 09/02/2018 18:36

As a teacher, it is such a disruption to the lessons if children are in and out of the toilets. Frankly, they go because they see someone else go, not because they have to. Most kids go because they get to wander around instead of taking part in the lesson.

There are two 15 minute breaks, plus an hour of lunch. Why is this not sufficient for toilet breaks unless there is an emergency?

LML83 · 09/02/2018 18:38

I would expect 7 year olds to go during playtime or lunch so one additional toilet would be fine.

Unusual to have such formal structure on it. I would guess they have people asking a frequently and it is disrupting the class. Probably good this is being resolved.

Reassure your son if he goes at break and lunch he will be fine. If you feel strongly tell him if he is going to wet himself just go to the toilet. Telling the teacher my mum says if I really need to go I can. Might be useful for him to have an additional option even though unlikely to ever need it.

I remind them as they go off to play to use the toilet. They return and ask to use the toilet 🤪

Valerrie · 09/02/2018 18:49

People, seriously, why are you responding to a known troll?

Same format, name then number.

Same context.

Stop. Please

BackBoiler · 09/02/2018 18:52

I am sure the teacher will know who is going for real or if they fancy a wander round/copying their friend etc. If they say for the kid to wait I suspect that it is because they have been guilty of it before.

beclev24 · 09/02/2018 18:53

ok, is there anything I can do to convince people that I'm not a troll? (this is a pretty upsetting accusation given the context/ implication)

I've posted on MN before- recently about having pre-eclampsia / emergency c-section at 37 weeks. I also posted on the recent thread about why girls are preferred (I have 3 DS's.) . I can totally understand and fully support peoples' concern about actual trolls but that's honestly not me, and I'd love to be able to convince people. Anything I can do/ say that would help convince people that whoever this troll was, it wasn't me?

Evening folks. Just popping in to say that we really do think the OP is above board here. Obviously we can never vouch 100% for any one of you (you all could be hairy-handed truckers for all we know, though we do of course hope not).

But this OP really does look ok from this end. It looks to us as though she has unwittingly posted about a situation that is a favourite story of our occasionally-resident wee troll, which is rather unfortunate, though not a massive coincidence, since it's not a completely outlandish scenario.

Thanks for all the reports anyway - we do understand why folk are twitchy on this subject and we're always happy to get reports when people are concerned, but hope this puts everyone's minds at rest.

TheHungryDonkey · 09/02/2018 19:29

Schools I’ve worked - primary school - children are allowed to go to the toilet when they ask. The exception to this would be during input or registration which is important and doesn’t last long or they may be asked to wait until their best friend has returned.

beclev24 · 09/02/2018 19:56

Thank you Mumsnet for the support! This was posted in good faith, I promise, but I will avoid the topic in future.

@dissapointedafternoon see Bluedoglead's post above yours, it is explained very succinctly.

BellyBean · 09/02/2018 20:01

It seems a fair trade. It takes 5 mins to go to the loo so you're not really losing break time because if you'd waited you would have used that five mins going to the loo.

UserSnoozer · 09/02/2018 20:06

Go before each lesson???

waitingforlifetostart · 09/02/2018 20:07

So they can go at 8.30 before school, 10.30 at break. 12 at lunch plus 1pm at the end of lunch. Then once lesson time too so say 2pm. Seems absolutely fine to me.

Justifythis · 09/02/2018 20:13

Try and and get him to go to the toilet before each lesson in preparation. Him worrying about maybe needing to go will make him anyway! Try and enquiry about a toilet pass I had to have one at school for my heavy periods.

Bluelonerose · 09/02/2018 20:14

If the teacher has sent a letter out saying to send extra clothes in surely the answer would be telling them to all go to the loo I.e before they go to break or when they come back in send them in via the loo.

Of course it is. Teachers asking for spare clothes because there's a mass outbreak of 7 year olds wetting themselves Hmm.
What exactly makes you really think the op is above board here, Hebe?

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 09/02/2018 20:54

Oh FFS.
