In still feeling cheated at the end of Dawson's Creek?

Valerrie · 08/02/2018 14:59

I've just re-watched as the box set is on All-4 at the moment. Dawson's Creek was a huge part of my teenage years and I still love it.

However, I still feel cheated at the end. Am I alone?

First of all, it felt like the Jen show. I've never found Jen a particularly likeable character and the last two episodes were all about her, which I feel took it away from the main three characters.

Then there's Andie. I didn't really like her that much either, but where was she? She didn't come back for Ken's death, her brother moving back to Capeside with Doug? Seems odd as they were very close.

I'm happy with Joey and Pacey being together. When I was a teen, it absolutely devastated me as I thought she'd finally end up with Dawson, but after a re-watch, I realised Dawson is a bit of a selfish bugger really. But it all felt SO rushed. One minute they're in Capeside and the next they have this teeny and fairly insignificant scene then boom, it's over.

I can only take consolation in the fact that the writer said that Joey and Pacey would still be together now, with children, Dawson is in a good place and Jack and Doug raised Amy successfully and she has two wonderful fathers.

I am aware I have invested way too much time in thinking about this Grin

I always thought Michelle Williams was just absolutely stunning looking. From that very first episode when she arrives in the taxi. She still is gorgeous. Massive girl crush on her.

newyearsameme80 · 09/02/2018 18:20

What happened to Jen’s baby?

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 09/02/2018 18:23

Jack and Doug raised her.

Valerrie · 09/02/2018 18:25

Jen always had such an air of sadness and Michelle Williams seems to as well. She is beautiful.

I’m going to have to watch DC all over again cos if this thread!

DC was so good but when Seth Cohen showed up on my tv in The OC my love for Pacey flew out the window and Seth has been my dream boyfriend ever since

PrimalLass · 09/02/2018 18:51

Ugh - The Affair. They are all such horrible people. Except Pacey, because although he has a different name, it really is just Pacey all grown up.

PrimalLass · 09/02/2018 19:03

And yes - One Tree Hill is amazing. I actually cried when it was removed from Amazon Prime Blush

Becles · 09/02/2018 19:05

Noooooo they've removed DC from Netflix Angry

lolalotta · 09/02/2018 19:28

Am starting it from the beginning tonight!!! GrinGrinGrin taking me right back!

StoorieHoose · 09/02/2018 19:28

One tree hill was so so good too

Wishimaywishimight · 09/02/2018 19:36

I was so frustrated when, after Jen's funeral, Joey and Pacey were in the kitchen of his restaurant and he told her that she was "off the hook", that he had always love her but was letting her go so that she could find someone who made her feel the way he did when he was with her. She said she didn't want to be let off the hook and that she loved him etc. The conversation was interrupted - I would love to have seen the rest, where they got back together.

I adored Pacey and really wanted to be Joey. There was something very appealing about her.

lolalotta · 09/02/2018 19:37

Glad One Tree Hill is getting some more mentions!!! It's reeeeeeally good, better than DC IMO!

lolalotta · 09/02/2018 19:38

I loved Seth too from The OC!!!

CaptainBrickbeard · 09/02/2018 19:40

Seth was dreamy. Again, the death of Marissa seemed as unnecessary as Jen’s though! I think the pilot episode of The OC is one of the best first episodes of any show I’ve ever seen (along with The Walking Dead!) I loved it.

lolalotta · 09/02/2018 19:52

So was My So Called Life officially the first teen drama? Hang on what about Party of Five??? I'm
Not sure which came first!

youarenotkiddingme · 09/02/2018 19:52

So need to watch last series!

Who was the father of Jen's baby?

Valerrie · 09/02/2018 19:58

He was just a random, I don't think they even mentioned his name.

I'm going to start One Tree Hill on Monday - I've never seen it.

CaptainBrickbeard · 09/02/2018 20:25

The father was a feckless cad who didn’t stick around or take any interest in the baby, in keeping with the narrative stance that Jen wasn’t worthy of love, respect or decent treatment Hmm.

Luisa77 · 09/02/2018 20:38

Poor Jen. I think/hope the treatment/portrayal of her might be different 20 years later.

StoorieHoose · 09/02/2018 20:56

Jared Leto was just too good looking for me to completely enjoy My so Called Life but it was so good

They don’t make teen dramas like they used to!

InLoveWithDavidTennant · 09/02/2018 21:01

Ive only watched up to season 5 of One Tree Hill. I also started watching it roughly 3 years ago because Fall Out Boy were in it (im a little obsessed with Patrick Stump. I luvs him) Blush

Have never seen the OC, though i do randomly own the first 2 seasons.

It was Dawson and Buffy for me all the way and nothing else was getting close... Well, until charmed came along

CaptainBrickbeard · 09/02/2018 21:15

Stoorie, I loved Jared Leto and was shamefully desperate for Angela to be with him even though he was so horrible! She was so right to resist even though it would take superhuman self control...

StoorieHoose · 09/02/2018 21:44

CaptianBrickbeard I cant imagine being able to resist him if I was Angela!

DarthNigel · 09/02/2018 21:55

Ugh, Dawson...his forehead was large but not as large as his ego and controlling tendencies...

DarthNigel · 09/02/2018 21:58

The OC was my favourite thing ever. In fact I'm just about to start rewatching it with dd1 Smile
Seth is so funny, Ryan is so lovely...and Sandy has the best eyebrows... ignore anything after the death of one of the core four (to avoid spoilers) however-not worth it after that.
