In still feeling cheated at the end of Dawson's Creek?

I've just re-watched as the box set is on All-4 at the moment. Dawson's Creek was a huge part of my teenage years and I still love it.

However, I still feel cheated at the end. Am I alone?

First of all, it felt like the Jen show. I've never found Jen a particularly likeable character and the last two episodes were all about her, which I feel took it away from the main three characters.

Then there's Andie. I didn't really like her that much either, but where was she? She didn't come back for Ken's death, her brother moving back to Capeside with Doug? Seems odd as they were very close.

I'm happy with Joey and Pacey being together. When I was a teen, it absolutely devastated me as I thought she'd finally end up with Dawson, but after a re-watch, I realised Dawson is a bit of a selfish bugger really. But it all felt SO rushed. One minute they're in Capeside and the next they have this teeny and fairly insignificant scene then boom, it's over.

I can only take consolation in the fact that the writer said that Joey and Pacey would still be together now, with children, Dawson is in a good place and Jack and Doug raised Amy successfully and she has two wonderful fathers.

I am aware I have invested way too much time in thinking about this Grin

Oh right :( Is the website itself blocked?

I remember being in a Dawson's Creek chat room whilst watching live on T4. We wrote some pretty good fan fiction, a surprising amount of it dedicated to Dawson's unusually large forehead.

I was a Jocey shipper from the off.

'I remember everything.'

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 08/02/2018 20:25

That was a dream, @Bodicea**

No there was a real scene where joey and Lacey chased Dawson and Audrey to the airport. Pacey did an announcement over the loudspeaker and joey has to buy a ticket to Paris to get through security to the gate. She caught up with Dawson and told him he had to go back to LA and they both had to go where they needed to go and if they found each other again they would. It was the end of season 5. Pacey and Audrey ended up going on a summer long road trip.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 08/02/2018 20:27

There was also the airport scene at the beginning of season 5 where Dawson came for a weekend visit to see joey at university and then he left in a sulk over a voicemail she had left him. she chased him to the airport and he decided to stay and drop out of film school. That was just before Mitch died.

Luisa77 · 08/02/2018 20:43

Ah ok. Yes, I vaguely remember that in season 5. I stopped watching avidly after season 4. I dipped in and out of 5 and 6 but tuned in again properly for the big finale

I think I need to go and watch season 3 again (not bothered about the rest) - from Pacey and Joey on the dock in the first episode (I think), when he’s tasked with looking after her, to the B&B, the wall, ‘I remember everything’ and ‘permission to board?’. I reckon I can skim watch the key bits in an evening can’t I?! Ooh, and one of my favourite scenes is after they share a bed at Dawson’s aunt’s, and he calls her out that it’s her turn to make a move, and counts to 10. Ooh, it’s all coming flooding back!

I started to lose interest in season 4 to be honest. And quite frankly found it hard to suspend disbelief that Joey didn’t shag Pacey senseless on that boat alone together for months (when they got back, wasn’t loathsome Dawson super focused on whether they had had sex? Like it was any of his business! Like all that mattered was that she hadn’t lost her virginity to someone else shudder)

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 08/02/2018 20:47

Oh yes that whole thing about “I’m the only person the truth can potentially kill” Hmm fuck off Dawson. It’s nothing to do with you and you shouldn’t have dignified it with a response Joey!

LoveProsecco · 08/02/2018 20:53

❤️ Pacey ❤️

That is all

😃

ThomasHardyPerennial · 08/02/2018 20:54

That boat was so small, where the heck did they go to the loo?

Bodicea · 08/02/2018 20:54

Ok I think the scene I remember was joey getting a ticket to Paris. That’s the last scene I watched. I never realised there was a double episode 5 years on. So gonna watch that now! Even though I now know that Jen dies and Pacey and Joey end up together!

Valerrie · 08/02/2018 20:58

There's also an airport scene where Joey and Dawson meet by chance. She's wearing an engagement ring.

Dawson was WAY too invested in whether they had sex on the boat.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 08/02/2018 21:06

That was the dream scene Valerie.

Luisa77 · 08/02/2018 21:08

I know - seriously?! Not only was it fuck all to do with him, but also, why was that the key thing that was upsetting him when, either way, they were clearly together and in love. He was utterly loathsome. Joey should have told him to fuck off, rather than spending years pandering to him.

Tistheseason17 · 08/02/2018 21:10

Aaaaah.....Pacey....😚

Luisa77 · 08/02/2018 21:11

My last post was in response to Donny’s post about Dawson saying the truth [about whether Joey had had sex] could kill him. Ooh, all my Dawson hatred is coming flooding back! 😂

Valerrie · 08/02/2018 21:17

Yes, Dawson's dream about Joey at the airport.

Joey could be a megabitch but Dawson was much worse and I think I've always been a tiny bit in love with Joey as well as Pacey

The Pacey fan that I am can I just say that ONE TREE HILL IS EVEN BETTER!!!!! Grin

purpleme12 · 08/02/2018 21:19

Oh yes I used to watch Dawson's Creek. And yes I agree it was always Pacey all the way for me! I'd love then to show this on normal tele. I'm sure it was on a few years ago when my daughter was a baby at some obscure time or something.

Panickypete · 08/02/2018 21:21

Dawson was a self absorbed arse. Joey had every right to fall in love with Pacey and yet he sulked about like a twat about it for bloody ages.
I never liked him again after that. And he’s so bloody vanilla, like an American Gary Barlow.
Pacey is sweet and sexy and caring and just lovely.
As a final note, how refreshing that the girls/ women in this show were written as intelligent with depth and ambition. Teen shows often depict girls as airheads.

Frenchsticker · 08/02/2018 21:22

I loved and still love Pacey. But... am I the only person who had a crush on Joey's college boyfriend? The one in the last or last but one series who was a barman but sneaked into classes because he loved literature? Can't remember his name in it but in real life he's Kate Hudson's brother

Valerrie · 08/02/2018 21:26

Eddie 😍

This had a massive impact on me as a teenage girl.

Eddie Doling/Oliver Hudson! Yes! I loved him too. Not a patch on pacey though.

Frenchsticker · 08/02/2018 21:33

Eddie! 😍

InLoveWithDavidTennant · 08/02/2018 21:35

Currently rewatching it all. Team Pacey all the way!

Hated Dawson. So possessive. So many red flags!! Can totally see Joey posting in relationships had she ended up with him. Ugh

**Dawson never bothered to really know Joey- she was just the love prop in his self-centered little life.
Pacey listened to her and genuinely cared about her.
