Bengal has scratched DD friend

Long story short my DS had a few friends over at weekend and one of them pulled my 1 year old Bengal's tail and she too took a little swipe at them. I had to pretend I was less annoyed than I was (as you always do with kids that aren't yours) but just checked they weren't hurt and thought nothing more of it. Today I have had said parents very annoyed on the phone demanding this was unacceptable and they wanted to report it, I was clearly very annoyed aswell and it got a bit heated from there.

I don't think I am but AIBU ? All the kids were clearly told to leave Annie (Bengal) alone and I didn't overreact when they didn't. Can't help that feel this is generation snowflake when things like this happen no injuries occured.

They want to report a cat scratch? Grin

Sometimes it scares me how extremely dim people are allowed to have children. Hurt a cat, it will hurt you back, thems the breaks.

threeelephants · 06/02/2018 19:35

What's a Bengal? Why not just say cat?
(Do you also say Mercedes when you mean car?)

GhostWriter666 · 06/02/2018 19:36

I'm not surprised it took a swipe if he pulled her tail. She should be teaching her child not to annoy/harm/hurt animals.

She IBU

Soubriquet · 06/02/2018 19:36

They don't really have a leg to stand on with reporting

However I would advise them to seek antibiotics if it becomes at any time red and/or swollen

Cat bites and scratches can be nasty

She has said Bengal because they are a breed who do not suffer fools or tail pulling gladly...

frozenlake · 06/02/2018 19:38

I'd rather like to listen to the police or council phone call were the parents try to report this. Don't get heated with them, just camly state that the consequence of pulling a cats tail is that you get scratched, I'm sure the child will think twice before doing it again. You could always agree it wasn't acceptable but you were prepared to let it go this once but that probably wouldn't calm anything down.

Laiste · 06/02/2018 19:39

Saying 'my bengal' is only like saying 'my labrador' or 'my spaniel'.

I wish you'd have told her to report away. Or maybe you did? What did you say?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/02/2018 19:39

Who exactly are they going to Repawt it to.
Repawt (get it).
On a serious note though. Let that be a lesson to them not to pull another poor cats tail.

PorklessPie · 06/02/2018 19:41

Bengals can be feisty, which is why I think the breed was mentioned?

Just ignore op, and definitely don't invite the child over again. I would be pretty angry if a child pulled one of my cats tails. It's natural for the cat to swipe or bite if aggravated. I accidently stood on my huge ragdoll boys tail last week, he has a habit of sleeping across the bottom step of the stairs and I didn't notice him. He is the softest docile animal ever and he bit my ankle Grin.

Shmithecat · 06/02/2018 19:42

Yanbu. Her DS sounds like a spiteful little shit. She should be embarrassed that he behaved the way he did.

CynthiaRothrock · 06/02/2018 19:42

Threeelephants its the breed of cat some are more vicious than others same as dogs....there is a big difference between a bite from a Jack Russell and one from a German Shepard.

Op did you explain to the parents it had happened when they collected the child? If not then you should have, 1 the child was 'hurt' in your care (even if it is just a cat scratch) and 2 so they can teach the little snowflake not to hurt animals.

Seryph · 06/02/2018 19:43

I learnt not to chase cats at 2, my mum's very loving Bengal/tabby cross taught me. I still have the scar 26 years later.

What a stupid child, and stupid parents.

RadioGaGoo · 06/02/2018 19:44

Oh God. 'Generation Snowflake'. Just can't take you seriously OP.

MrsJoshDun · 06/02/2018 19:45

When I was about 5yo I was at a friends house and desperate to nicely stroke the cat. Was very non cat savvy and didn’t realise the cat was scared at me looking over it while trapped in a corner. It swiped me, I cried, my friends mum gave me a right bollocking and I was too scared to tell my mum as I thought I must have been very naughty #seventieschild

Tell them to knock themselves out reporting your cat to the dangerous cat police. Don’t have the kid back.

RoseDog · 06/02/2018 19:45

They want to report a cat scratch 😂😂 best thing I've heard on here ever!!

I should have reported my own cat she was evil and no one was brave enough to touch her yet we still got regularly attacked, god rest her evil soul.

Doobigetta · 06/02/2018 19:49

The parents are being ridiculous, but tbh I'd have put my cat outside or in a different room after the first time the kids were rough with her. Children and cats don't mix, it's not fair on any of them.

PoorYorick · 06/02/2018 19:49

Please tell me to whom they are reporting the cat scratch. I'm dying to know.

Valerrie · 06/02/2018 19:52

Tell them you're going to report them for having a child that is cruel to animals.

Ginmakesitallok · 06/02/2018 19:52

Tell them thanks for reporting it to you - that you'll give her a thorough telling off and put her on the naughty step. Ffs

KingIrving · 06/02/2018 19:52

You could report the child for animal cruelty.

Cornettoninja · 06/02/2018 19:52

I would tell her I was happy for her to report it (genuinely interested in to whom and what response she gets Grin)

Cats scratch - good lesson to learn practically if you're not going to listen.

lovemylover · 06/02/2018 19:53

Any cat will turn and scratch if its tail is pulled, for a start they dont look first to see who did it,its instinct ,
I have had Bengals in the past, my last one, rip, died a year ago, but she was very gentle, but even she would have turned and scratched, its just a defence mechanism
II have Ragdolls now, but they would do the same
Tell them to teach their child respect for animals

wibblywobblywoo · 06/02/2018 19:54

I absolutely HAVE to know where they are going report this to.

Did they specify OP, or was it just a sort of "I'm going to tell on you" sort of thing....?

HildaZelda · 06/02/2018 19:54

YANBU. The kids were warned and they didn't listen so what they did expect was going to happen?

I'd love to know who the idiot parents are planning to 'report it' to though? Cat police that I'm unaware of?
