DD managed to get mud all over her blazer and skirt.

I just can't afford to get them cleaned. So i sent her in without the blazer and a note. She has been put in isolation tomorrow.

I am really sick of it. AIBU?

How did she get mud all over her skirt and blazer? Is she being bullied? I know she could have done it as an accident but unless she is in primary those sort of accidents seem quite rare beyond ks1. Agree with the others about sponging it off.

Chowmum · 06/02/2018 17:08

The main reason for "dry clean" is:
Nylon ones - the lining will shrink at a different rate to the outer fabric, and can end up looking a dog's dinner.

Wool ones - pretty much the same, but there is also the risk of the wool doing weird woolly sh*t, and it ending up looking like... oh, I said that.

Cold wash, gently spin, ABSOLUTELY NO TUMBLE DRY.

I'd have sent her in the muddy blazer. Seriously don't get the isolation thing, are they worried her non-conformity will rub off in gen pop?

formerbabe · 06/02/2018 17:09

Even if you get it dry cleaned, she'd have at least a day without it whilst it's being done?

If it was me I'd stick it in the machine on a delicate wash...I've done this plenty of times.

pizzatuesdays · 06/02/2018 17:10

It is dry clean only but our washing is broken anyway.

She didn't get mud on it intentionally and is very upset. She slipped. It is absolutely drenched in mud.

Brush off the dried mud.
Gently sponge it off.
Dedicates wash on 20 degrees in the WM.

All would have been appropriate options here.

pizzatuesdays · 06/02/2018 17:14

We don't have a washing machine and rhe blazer was soaked with mud. I don't mean a couple of splashes.

I'm really not stupid - I could not have sent her in wearing it.

Bluntness100 · 06/02/2018 17:14

I can't believe her skirt is dry clean only. Just hand wash it and hang it over a radiator. Or sponge the mud off and do it at the weekend.

I'm sorry, but this has been happening since the start of time, you seem to be making a mountain out of a molehill.

LIZS · 06/02/2018 17:14

Use the bath or shower to brush off the residue and rinse any spots. Dry hanging in airing cupboard or over radiator.

formerbabe · 06/02/2018 17:15

What a pickle.

pizzatuesdays · 06/02/2018 17:15

She is wearing her skirt Bluntness.

It is the blazer.

pizzatuesdays · 06/02/2018 17:16

What do you mean former?

OP posts:
Oblomov18 · 06/02/2018 17:16

Our blazer says dry clean but it goes in the washing machine once or twice a term.
If not, Brush it off, sponge it down, it'll be fine.

LIZS · 06/02/2018 17:16

Baby wipes?

NeilPetark · 06/02/2018 17:18

Wash it in the bath in cool water.

pizzatuesdays · 06/02/2018 17:19

Look. She fell into mud. I am honestly not stupid and with respect I didnt ask about washing tips.

No washing machine. No, baby wipes will not work. It is soaked and filthy. I just needed a few days to get it sorted and now the poor girl is in trouble.

People are trying to offer you solutions.

What are you asking for if it's not washing tips?

MatildaTheCat · 06/02/2018 17:20

What are really sick of? Has this happened before or are youbfacing other struggles. On the face of it a muddy school blazer should be a disaster. It sounds like the straw that broke the camel’s back?

k2p2k2tog · 06/02/2018 17:21

Let mud dry, brush off as much as you can, attack the rest with baby wipes.

I also don't believe her skirt is dry clean only unless it's 100% pure wool kilt style.

Then petition for your school to switch to the machine washable blazers, we pat £30 a blazer and they wash very well. Not quite as smart as the wool ones but a lot lighter and easier to wear in warmer weather and as they all wear them, they look smart enough.

Sirzy · 06/02/2018 17:21

Why not hand wash it?

pizzatuesdays · 06/02/2018 17:23

I'm asking about her punishment.

I can work out how to wash a blazer. I am not stupid.

Matilda - I am sick of the costs with school, I suppose.

K2 if i could have, I would. Please, please will everyone stop telling me how to clean a blazer; I KNOW how to clean a blazer.

OP posts:
pizzatuesdays · 06/02/2018 17:24

Sirzy it is dry clean only and I dont have anywhere i could wash it anyway.

OP posts:
sirlee66 · 06/02/2018 17:24

No washing machine? No problem! Bowl of warm water, little laundry detergent and your hands to wash.

Sirzy · 06/02/2018 17:25

If the school policy is “incorrect uniform then isolation” then that’s the policy. If anything you should have contacted them before sending her in if you really couldn’t find a way around it not just sent her in with no prior explanation.

pizzatuesdays · 06/02/2018 17:25

Right it is dry clean only. Please can people stop advising me how to wash a blazer. I know how to wash a blazer.

OP posts:
pizzatuesdays · 06/02/2018 17:26

I sent in a note. I couldn't do much more.
