I don’t want to give too many details but quick straw poll:

When FaceTiming with someone, is it reasonable to turn the phone round onto your partner without warning and insist they participate in your conversation?

And a second part to that question: is it reasonable to throw a strop if your partner says they’d prefer it if you didn’t do that?

Opening it up to the floor....

please tell me there are no children involved.

Who cares.

I don't think participation in a conversation is much to ask of your partner.

Drogosnextwife · 16/01/2019 16:09

No it's fucking annoying and my dp does it to me all the time and info tell him to stop involving me or insisting I say hello then he says "Stop whingin". He doesn't give me the normal phone to talk to people when he's making a phone call and he doesn't involve me in conversations on WhatsApp or Facebook etc, so what is different about bloody face time!

Drum2018 · 16/01/2019 16:14

No, I'd hate anyone to expect me to join the conversation without having previously okayed it with me.

I absolutely hate it when someone does that to me.

PositivelyPERF · 16/01/2019 16:28

signed a consent form? It's like rape otherwise.

Oh fuck off, snurguzelly! Do you really think that’s appropriate?

DarlingNikita · 16/01/2019 16:29

No, it's not reasonable! DP did this to me once (Skype not FT, if it matters) and I left the room.

LilyOf2 · 16/01/2019 16:35

i do this all the time. "SAY HELLO TO MY MUM!!!" when my partners sat eating his dinner or whatever. But no, its unreasonable. I can see that when its written down. However I would just say sorry and not do it again if someone had a problem with it. To throw a strop is a bit over the top.

RelaxedSelfGuiding · 16/01/2019 16:46

I would be annoyed if I was expected to join in a conversation because someone turned the phone to me.

If my phone rings, I have the choice whether to answer it. Sometimes I don't. You are taking that choice away.

In the privacy of my own home I don't want a camera shoved at me.

YABU, and also ridiculous to throw a strop. Sounds like your DP was quite polite in the circumstances. I would have expressed it rather differently

Yes, I don't see the problem with it tbh if they haven't said they don't like doing that.

No - if they say they would prefer that you don't do that, then you should respect their wishes.

Wannabeyorkshirelass · 16/01/2019 17:15

I HATE it when my partner does this. I'm often slobbing around as it's the weekend - no make up or whatever - and not the way I'd choose to look when seeing friends or family, and then suddenly I'm face to face with them. I really hate it, it makes me so angry! Worst is when he just flips the camera so I can't even see the person, I'm basically just on camera saying Hi to the back of his phone. I've told him to stop it but he forgets a lot. Plus as someone else said, if I actually wanted to talk to his family I'd call them myself. He also does the 'Do you want to say hello to Wannabe?' when on the phone to people. They're too polite to say no and I'm then stuck saying hello and I hate being on the phone.

Vedette89 · 16/01/2019 22:54

No and no !

My SIL insists on facetiming DP because her baby 'doesnt like audio calls'.

He once turned it round to me, unbrushed hair , joggers and eating ice cream. I was furious!!!

TheHorseyouRodeInOn · 17/01/2019 00:40

My do does this all the time. I absolutely hate it 😡
