I want some opinions.
My sister is getting married this year in June, we're all very excited. Our mom, the Mother Of The Bride, is thinking of wearing this dress. The replica dress Bella Swan wears on her wedding day (but not during the actual wedding) to my sister's wedding.
I said as it's a very light colour and a bit short, it's a little bit bad taste and is pretty much as good as wearing white. My Mom says as it's cream it's not actually white it's a reasonable choice.
I said I'd ask you lovely people to make the decision for us, one way or the other.
Do you think it's appropriate for the Mother Of The Bride to wear this to her daughter's wedding?

It’s too everyday for a wedding.

Somanyshoes - foxy lady!

Amanduh · 05/02/2018 17:28

She shouldn’t wear cream.
But mainly, it’s horrible.

MsHopey · 05/02/2018 18:20

The themed colour is dusky pink. I don't think she wants to wear a typical MOTB outfit. She's thinking of a nice dress, I just didn't think this dress was the right one.

That’s uncalled for!

HouseFallingApart · 05/02/2018 18:29

Yes but a few people probably thought it including me

ILikTheBred · 05/02/2018 18:30

It’s a bit bland for a wedding imo.

On the colour issue: MIL wore a cream jacket to my wedding. At the time I didn’t mind (and to an extent I still don’t), however when I look at any photos of the day she is in, she really stands out - your eye is drawn to the brightest thing in the picture, and given she was a much larger lady than me, she is effectively the centerpiece of the photos. Not something I lose much sleep over, but I would caution against anyone thinking of wearing white or cream to a wedding for this reason.

milliemolliemou · 05/02/2018 18:30

OP She's only 43 - not in her 60s or 70s - so she can do as she likes and a deep cream or whatever does nicely if she cant find another colour. Clearly she doesn't need to match the dusky pink theme. My only objection to the dress you pictured is that it looks as if creases very badly and she would need a bolero/shawl top. I suspect she dances - and that's not a great dancing dress.

Fekko · 05/02/2018 18:31

I’m bought it was a bit too plain. How old is too old for it then? I’d better get out my winceyette nightie and pinny then.

MsHopey · 05/02/2018 18:34

I didn't say she was too old for it.

So many shoes, that looks gorgeous! But you have to have your tan to go with it.

I agree with all other posters, it's just not exciting enough. I am sure that MN can find some more exciting options. Smile

MsHopey · 05/02/2018 18:36

And I mentioned the theme just because PP had asked about it. Not because I thought it was super relevant to the dress she's chosen.

It’s a summer office dress so not wedding enough for me.

As for the lengthy I wear much shorter and am 50! Good legs at 20 are generally good legs at 50. Grin

nancy75 · 05/02/2018 18:48

Have a look in Ted Baker, my Mum got a really nice dress for a wedding in there last year, that dress in your op is just really boring

Giraffe888 · 05/02/2018 18:52

I think it’s too ‘office’ like for a wedding and nowhere near special enough for MOB

HolyAngelus · 05/02/2018 18:52

But on what grounds exactly are you objecting to that dress? It's just on the knee, so hardly too short, and mistaking the MOB for the B in a casual cream-coloured dress seems unlikely, so the colour alone isn't an issue -- unless your sister is planning to wear a knee-length, cream, casual dress too...? And it's not at all distinctive, so I doubt the other guests will be milling out muttering about the MOB wearing a dress from a bad movie...?

Mutton dressed as lamb

Then I must be mutton dressed as lamb as that is my every day work out fit.

Fekko · 05/02/2018 19:03

I always preferred ‘Witney dressed as Britney’. But I’m showing my age...

JoeyMaynardssolidlump · 05/02/2018 19:05

How on earth is this plain dress any where near ‘mutton dressed as lamb’ and what a bitchy woman hating expression.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 05/02/2018 19:06

I'm wearing a dress from Chi Chi London as stepmother of the groom - I'm 39 so not much younger than your mum. Jacques Vert is a bit more matronly than I would like but I found it tricky getting the balance right between being elegant but not frumpy, and not upstaging the bride. My dress looks like this.

Fekko · 05/02/2018 19:09

What’s the quality like of Chi Chi? I’ve seen their site and they have some nice things on there but I’ve not seen any in real life.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 05/02/2018 19:21

I was really impressed when my dress arrived. It's a heavy fabric and has two layers of netting and lining underneath, and after a short time hanging up the creases from packing had dropped out. I think for the money (I paid £53 with a discount for it being my first order) it is excellent value. I haven't had anything else from there to compare it with though.

JoeyMaynardssolidlump · 05/02/2018 19:49

Gretchen

That’s lovely

falang · 05/02/2018 20:11

It's very plain. Your mum will have to be tall, willowy and stunning to pull that off. If she's wearing a jacket and other accessories with it it might be ok. Just.
