to think that Amazon Prime is a waste of money

I ordered two items to be delivered to a building which is staffed 24 hours a day, the driver claimed not to be able to deliver them so I complained to Amazon who told me this:

"As our carriers deliver a large number of orders in a geographical pattern, in most cases, the carrier might not be able to deliver the order on the same day of delivery attempt and it seems that the carrier was not able to deliver this order by yesterday.
Due to this, they have delivered this order today with high priority."

In other words, the delivery on the same day or next day with Prime means nothing if they have given their drivers too much work.

I cancelled mine this month. It can cost more for items bought using Prime. I use it for quick deliveries over the Christmas period, and it's fairly reliable. I don't bother with the 'prime TV' or whatever it's called.

whiskyowl · 05/02/2018 14:26

mummy - I may need to give that a go if it's not here soon!

It's a set of lights and I need them here because the electrician is coming to fit them tomorrow. I can't wait because I really, really never want to see this guy again - he's been nothing but a PITA through our build and was pretty unpleasant the last time he was here. I can't wait to be shot of him forever; for that to happen, I need the lights! High stakes! Grin

Sallystyle · 05/02/2018 14:28

I love it.

I use amazon all the time and always get the items delivered the next day. Never had a problem that I can remember.

BumpowderSneezeonAndSnot · 05/02/2018 14:30

I liked it but am going off it. I've found prime items are marked up to cover the cost and now find myself searching for items with free delivery instead. I also find the next day isn't next day but more like next week which is frustrating! However i love the t.v. side of things though so for that it's worth it.

SilverySurfer · 05/02/2018 14:46

I love it and would pay just for Lucifer and Criminal Minds and also just started watching Code Black. Any parcels I've ordered arrive pretty much when expected too.

Schroedingerscatagain · 05/02/2018 14:46

Wouldn’t be without it here deliveries always arrive next day, often have prime discounts love the tv which we often have on in multiple locations

Also twitch prime makes me very popular with teen ds due to the exclusive PS4 codesGrin

LisaMed1 · 05/02/2018 14:49

Peppermint Patsy to watch the stuff included in Prime go to 'your prime' (top left), then 'prime video' on the bar sort of half way down on my screen, possibly a third down on a decent sized screen, then click on 'included in Prime'. I suspect my page set up is a little quirky, so you may have to hunt for the places, but the key is 'included in Prime'

Did you know that if you have prime but select 'no rush delivery' you get credits towards stuff? I haven't really looked into it but worth knowing.

TonTonMacoute · 05/02/2018 14:51

We live in the sticks, and it’s worth every penny. We have only had one or two problems over the years that we have been members, all of which have been resolved.

If you don’t think it’s worth it for you, then cancel it!

Fintress · 05/02/2018 14:55

I absolutely love Prime. But I haven't had any delivery issue. I feel sorry for the delivery drivers though. I initially bought it for my husband to watch Top Gear but I use it far more than him.

Kitsharrington · 05/02/2018 15:02

I agree. Also shits me that it's no longer next day delivery. Soon I expect they will release a new, more expensive, level of membership for next day delivery, seeing as pretty much everyone has prime now.

Pinkprincess1978 · 05/02/2018 15:03

The only real problem we had was on my last birthday - DH ordered a table/ice bucket thing (our fridge freezer was broken and hadn't been fixed and I needed cold prosecco 😀). We made sure one of us was at the front window at all times so we wouldn't miss them and then my DH got an email saying sorry we missed you 😡 he rang them and made it clear we knew they hadn't even tried and how annoyed we were. Amazon said they would try courier to see if they could call back. Of course they didn't and it came the next day.

It was a Saturday and there was a big football match on so DH thought they wanted an early finish.

Never had any other problems though so more than worth the money we pay.

IHaveBrilloHair · 05/02/2018 15:04

I've recently cancelled mine after having it for years, it's got really shit.

rightsaidfrederickII · 05/02/2018 15:10

I tried Prime Now. They messed up a couple of things on my order (wrong item, something they said wasn't coming came when I'd already bought more at the shop on my way home) and they gave me a full refund on all my shopping!

Excellent value for money 💰💰

Corcory · 05/02/2018 15:11

I live in a small village 8 miles from the nearest town so Amazon prime is ideal for me. Saves me so many journeys. I use it for everything from pet supplies to sports stuff and diy stuff.
They do still do weekend deliveries I got a prime delivery yesterday - Sunday.
My son uses all the Prime TV and video stuff and I am getting myself set up to use the free audio books.

FannyWisdom · 05/02/2018 15:15

Corc do you have Alexa? I just got the Greek Myth audiobook.

For radio and audio books Alexa is good.

hopsalong · 05/02/2018 15:17

I love it and was idly wondering how much more than the annual subscription I’d pay if the price went up. I get a lot of same day deliveries when I remember things at work in the morning (nappies, gift cards, plasters) and also buy most of my books and skincare/ toiletry items. Also have Amazon Fresh, and get a delivery about once a week (so many basic groceries are cheaper than Tesco, though I do feel terrible about the wasted packaging and wish they would unpack from a crate). I used to use Amazon Prime Now but have stopped since they increased the minimum spend.

alfagirl73 · 05/02/2018 15:18

To be fair I love Amazon Prime. I use it a LOT - and they always deliver next day if they say they will - or I nominate the day I want - and it's fine. It's been a lifesaver many times on things I've needed at short notice. Plus I watch a good bit of the TV series and movies etc... I've more than made back the cost of my subscription on deliveries alone. I've never had a problem with them.

MatildaTheCat · 05/02/2018 15:22

No issues with deliver BUT if buying items it’s always worth checking the price on non prime as sometimes the Prime items are twice the price.

Onlyoldontheoutside · 05/02/2018 15:28

I have it mainly for films and DD uses it for music. We have never had next day deliveries so I tick the'no rush' option and get them just as quickly and use the credit that I get.

ReelingLush18 · 05/02/2018 15:28

I got it partly for Prime TV but cancelled it last month; I'm a seasonal shopper and don't really need it all year round. Plus our viewing habits are mainly terrestrial TV channels so not really worth it from that point of view either.

womaninatightspot · 05/02/2018 15:45

I pay for amazon prime just to avoid myhermes! I live rurally so sometimes next day delivery means two days but they don't use myhermes to ship stuff on prime so it actually gets to us. Saves loads of time trekking to town also pay for Tesco to deliver rather than trekking to Aldi so am probably just lazy in general :)

Blobby10 · 05/02/2018 15:50

I used the free service for a month but found that I didn't get free delivery and paid the same as i would without Prime for the stuff i buy!

So wont use it again!

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 05/02/2018 15:55

Can someone tell me if Lucifer, season 3 is free on Amazon Prime? Don't really want to pay for membership and more money to watch it.

BoeandBall · 05/02/2018 15:56

We have prime and have been ordering stuff pretty much every day for the past few weeks, and we have had to call and complain about the delivery service many times. The first time a parcel was left behind a bin and so it got wet and whah was inside was damaged. The other day we got a notification saying the package had been delivered and we were in the house and no one had knocked on the door. Took us a long time before we found the parcels had just been chucked around the back of the house. It was obvious there was someone home! We had a parcel got lost in France and so had to get a refund and loads of other times the parcels have never turned up the next day. It's ridiculous
And prime video might be good but for some movies it states they're only available if you pay for MGM every month on top!

LivingInMidnight · 05/02/2018 16:13

I love prime. The maximum free extension you can get is 12 months BTW. So not free forever.
