to think that Amazon Prime is a waste of money

I ordered two items to be delivered to a building which is staffed 24 hours a day, the driver claimed not to be able to deliver them so I complained to Amazon who told me this:

"As our carriers deliver a large number of orders in a geographical pattern, in most cases, the carrier might not be able to deliver the order on the same day of delivery attempt and it seems that the carrier was not able to deliver this order by yesterday.
Due to this, they have delivered this order today with high priority."

In other words, the delivery on the same day or next day with Prime means nothing if they have given their drivers too much work.

I feel guilty about it because of the tax thing

Not as big a problem as made out. They pay the 20% vat on what they sell. They pay employers national insurance on their staff wages. They give jobs in their warehouses and to delivery couriers. They give jobs to UK based administrators, computer programmers, etc. We, the customers, get quick delivery and low prices. As they're based in the EU, they comply with EU tax law and pay tax on profits in "a" EU country, i.e. Luxembourg. There are a lot worse than Amazon!

yorkshireyummymummy · 05/02/2018 13:38

LOVE, LOVE LOVE AMAZIN PRIME.
We live rurally so it’s fabulous for us.

UnaOfStormhold · 05/02/2018 13:39

I occasionally get a month's membership when I need something quickly or know I will be ordering lots of stuff (Christmas, peak family birthdays). Haven't had any problems with delivery. It is very convenient but I do feel guilty from a tax/gig economy delivery jobs perspective. Don't watch the video much but I did enjoy The Marvellous Mrs Maisel.

However, I do find I spend quite a lot more over the next month! So it probably would have been cheaper to just pay for delivery in the first place...

Toffeelatteplease · 05/02/2018 13:39

Disabled DC, prime is a godsend for us. Not least for shoes, can't remember the last time I bought shoes in a shoe shop. Next day delivery always works for me.

123namechanged · 05/02/2018 13:41

YES!! I am fuming at the moment.

My prime deliveries lately have either been a day late or show up ridiculously late!

I complained recently, saying that I'm paying for next day delivery and not getting it!

They apologised and said it's due to Christmas orders being behind.. bullshit is it because I've had other stuff arrive fine!!

WhatInTheWorldIsGoingOn · 05/02/2018 13:43

I love Amazon Prime. Realised I had no guinea pig food at 10pm at night. Ordered some and it arrived at 10am the next morning. For free. How is that even possible? It blows my mind. They are often here 4/5 times a week. Plus the music is linked to my many Alexas. And I watch things on it 2/3 times a week. It’s amazing.

BelleandBeast · 05/02/2018 13:44

I love it - tv, deliveries, free Kindle lending library, I use of much of it as I can!

Daffydil · 05/02/2018 13:46

I get it half price as a student. I've easily made my money back with the £1 kindle credits for not having my next day delivery Grin

ProfYaffle · 05/02/2018 13:46

I cancelled our Prime as the ndd just disappeared. Still got free delivery but next day was on hardly anything. Plus ebay seems to be cheaper on loads of stuff.

We subscribe to Amazon video every now and then to watch something specific then cancel it once we're done.

HashtagTired · 05/02/2018 13:46

I get the odd late delivery but generally it's good. Sometimes unbelievably good! We don't live in the city and so I don't expect it that quick, but when I ordered a book 8pm for it to be delivered before 10am the next morning, I was impressed.

Plus I like the music and online streaming. I think it's great.

MissMooMoo · 05/02/2018 13:52

@FannyWisdom no I haven't,probably should.
It isn't the drivers though,it is the warehouse dispatching it.

Want2bSupermum · 05/02/2018 13:52

We had our Christmas order delayed and they didn't arrive until Jan 8th after I called them and asked to cancel the order. The items we purchased were not discounted and in a warehouse 5 miles down the road for 5 days. Lots of people here state side are complaining. Lots of people have cancelled their prime membership. I can order from Walmart at no cost for shipping if over $25 and if I order to their store I get a 5% discount.

Amazon changed their T&C of their prime membership before Christmas. Now only Amazon items benefit from their prime membership delivery and they don't deliver prime items on weekends without a surcharge.

GetShitDone · 05/02/2018 13:52

Just to put things into perspective.. the courier drivers are put under ridiculous amounts of pressure.

www.theguardian.com/business/2018/feb/05/courier-who-was-fined-for-day-off-to-see-doctor-dies-from-diabetes

I have Prime. Totally worth it, and I don't even get next day delivery where I stay.

LRL2017 · 05/02/2018 13:53

I have to agree here as I've had around 3 deliveries myself now where the items have turned up sometimes up to 5 days later! Very frustrating

jarhead123 · 05/02/2018 13:54

Ours isn't great. No late deliveries and good tv

PeppermintPasty · 05/02/2018 13:58

Ok, I love the delivery side of things, but when I had it I struggled with the movie side of things because I am a bit thick I suspect

I thought it was like Netflix, so I excitedly tried to click on stuff to watch it, and it said 'this will cost so and so price, click here to watch it/pay for it' so I thought eff that and never bothered. What was I doing wrong?

coffeeforone · 05/02/2018 14:04

YABU - I love Amazon Prime and it has never failed to deliver to me when promised (i order a few things a week every week to various UK addresses)

GetShitDone · 05/02/2018 14:05

They have stuff for rent as well as free things with Amazon Prime - they do label the Amazon Prime stuff, so it's possible to search through that without seeing the pay for stuff. You just need to click the right categories.

I recommend the Marvellous Mrs Maisel.

FannyWisdom · 05/02/2018 14:07

Aye MissM if you complain to the online cs the drivers don't get a bollocking.
They are ridiculous employers when it comes to micro management so it's only fair we hold them to their own standards Grin and get free Floki.
The Gods

BoredOnMatLeave · 05/02/2018 14:07

Not a waste here either. I save roughly £15pm by having prime. I don't even need most things next day, but it saves loads in delivery fees.

whiskyowl · 05/02/2018 14:07

I do like Prime, but I do wish they would give more accurate tracking info for deliveries.

For a time about a year ago, they would actually let you see far more accurate real time delivery info. It was really useful! Now you just get "any time from 7am to 9pm". I actually have some errands to run and some grocery shopping to do today, but instead I'm sitting around waiting for an important parcel that I really NEED today.

Mummyoflittledragon · 05/02/2018 14:12

I’ve had the odd late delivery. I get loads from prime. And dd gets to watch the tv.

Amazon tv is great. Does anyone know when series 3 of the man in the high castle is out? That’s my fave on there. Ive seen the trailer.

Mummyoflittledragon · 05/02/2018 14:14

whiskyowl
Can you stick a note and sign for them to leave it at your doorstep, you take responsibility for it? My orders state to leave in the porch. But it’s an open porch with no door. Occasionally a new driver doesn’t leave it there but most times they will.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 05/02/2018 14:20

I love it. It's been a life saver many a time when I've forgot about world book day and other stuff at school that the dc have had to dress up for. Lots of other stuff too.

werewolfhowls · 05/02/2018 14:23

Yep it's all about floki
