Pissed off with reaction to present?

Bought friend birthday present. She opened it and literally looked at it in disgust and just muttered thanks and shoved it back in the bag.

Genuinely thought I’d bought her something she would like - obviously not. Which is fine and you can’t help what you like or dislike but surely most people would at least pretend to like it?

It’s annoyed me so much that I’ve text her to apologise. Aibu?

This is the most British thing EVER. Grin Grin Grin

Sashkin · 03/02/2018 20:57

Schlimbesserung that’s unspeakably rude! Even worse to sneer at something hand-knitted ShockShock

LizardMonitor · 03/02/2018 21:02

Send a disingenuous message asking if she would like the receipt so she can exchange it...

safariboot · 03/02/2018 21:14

No, you nosey lot, it doesn't matter what the presnt was, and it will be very outing for the OP to say! Stop fishing

It does matter though. Lots of gifts could be considered insulting in the wrong circumstances. Food or fragrance could also reasonably result in a disgusted reaction.

There's also the possibility that OP just totally got the wrong end of the stick, that the recipient just isn't one for going crazy excited over gifts.

Sitranced · 03/02/2018 21:17

Texting to apologise isn't a backwards way of calling her out on it, it's passive aggressive which is just as ride as her reaction to the present.

thecatsarecrazy · 03/02/2018 21:40

Well don't get her another gift. I bought a gift for my bil sons 1st birthday recently. My ds had a first birthday last week and didn't even get a Fucking card.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 03/02/2018 21:53

It’s a rotten gift, but she should have tried harder to fake it.though I see why she struggled

AnnieAnoniMouse · 03/02/2018 21:56

Come on...spill.

Nixen · 03/02/2018 21:57

Lipstick OP hasn’t said what the gift was?

NerrSnerr · 03/02/2018 21:59

Another trolley thread

Was that the gift? A hostess trolley?

gingergenius · 03/02/2018 22:08

I got your text “OP”. What do you want me to say? No one wants a side-winding thermal body belt for their birthday.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 03/02/2018 22:15

Oh was it not the pat butcher t shirt!? Phew cause I couldn’t fake liking that

MagnaWiles · 03/02/2018 22:16

If it was a book about being fat or losing weight, YABU.... seriously, a friend of mine did this to another friend and wondered why she got a chilly-sounding thank you!!!

Farmerswife36 · 03/02/2018 22:18

What the fuck was it !

WitchIwasaWitch18 · 03/02/2018 22:23

georgeoutside · 03/02/2018 22:39

YABVVVVVVVVVVVU withholding the vital information OP

What did you buy her

Isadora2007 · 03/02/2018 22:40

Wtf is a side winding body belt????

I wondered if the OP had given her 33 year old friend a “happy 40th” wine glass?
