Pissed off with reaction to present?

Bought friend birthday present. She opened it and literally looked at it in disgust and just muttered thanks and shoved it back in the bag.

Genuinely thought I’d bought her something she would like - obviously not. Which is fine and you can’t help what you like or dislike but surely most people would at least pretend to like it?

It’s annoyed me so much that I’ve text her to apologise. Aibu?

Re gifts: you can still notice (even if you hate it!), if there was thoughtful present and you really need to be grateful....

My dh once gave me Kirsty allsops book called "craft at home" or something. I started laughing hysterically thinking it was a joke, as you would. It wasn't a joke though. I was so pissed of, I felt like he really didnt know me at all.

Wouldn't show a negative reaction to a friends gift though, that would be rude!!

We have to presume that friends know a teeny bit about each other and don't give cans of airwick , mouse traps, bad breath sprays and extra small condoms as presents....

My MIL always gives me a top/jumper that she's bought on her travels. It's normally placky nylon, in a proper old-lady style (frills in strange places, little collars, weird colours) and she picks up a job-lot and gifts them as and well (so no thought whatsoever)..

I say thank you so much.

Straight to the charity shop. But she is happy. I don't expect anything much from a 88YO lady, so I'm happy.
