AIBU to buy a Persian Cat Sylvanian Family ?

I'm 34, no kids.... I always wanted Sylvanian Families when I was a kid but my Mum would never get me it as it was too expensive (I understand this now, the house I saw today was £120!) ....

Anyway, I was in Toys R Us (looking at board games) but looked around the whole store and came across the Sylvanian Family section!

There were so many I wanted but the Persian Cats stood out, they're £17! I also saw a car I quite fancied for them..

So just how sad is it if I buy them? Thinking of going back tomorrow.....

I occasionally buy myself barbies as an adult. Not a collector or anything. I just remember coveting them as a child. Walking down toy aisles and looking at all of them perfect in their boxes, but knowing they weren't for me.

I still enjoy "aisle-shopping" for them now, made even sweeter by the fact that now I can buy any one I want and sometimes do.

PatMustardsBigTool · 03/02/2018 15:41

Yes! Go for it! I bought loads for myself DD this Christmas. She couldn't care less but I have lots of fun reliving my childhood. Money well spent 😊

Do it! I have a plan for my retirement. I'm going to buy The Sims and spend a straight month playing it like I did when I was 16 in the summer holidays after my GCSEs. Can't risk buying it now because my real children would starve and I would lose my real job.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 03/02/2018 16:08

I want the hedgehog family!

@Toddlerteaplease I found my Cabbage Patch doll when we were clearing out Mum’s house! I didn’t know was still there.

I remember buying the Meerkat family for Ds when he decided he liked Meerkats. They used to ride around in his toy cars. Then a year later he decided he was too old for them! I felt a bit sad to see them go.

(Forgot the Saloon Car)

Butterfly1066 · 03/02/2018 17:05

And this is why I bought a Mr Frostie
Although that was disappointing !

Oooh, I loved my Sylvanians! I am so hoping my baby daughter grows up to love them. I had loads growing up - the grey bear family, brown bear family, owl family, duck family and badger family plus various babies and other members of other families. I had the windmill, the pony and caravan, the nursery, the school (I used to make little exercise books for the children), the bakery, the cottage hospital and the post office. I loved them!

When I was 11 or 12 I decided I was too old so gave them all to a charity shop. I regret that now.

LifeLaundry · 03/02/2018 19:38

I used to buy them for my children looong after they’d grown out of them. I would have loved them when I was a child. I think its fine, but you really need to moped and sidecar if its still available.

booqueue · 04/02/2018 08:01

I def need a moped. Seen a fab house for cheap on eBay but collection only and too far away. Perhaps a step too far anyway... Grin

I saw the game screwball scramble yesterday too which I used to love as a kid. I was an only child and you could play it alone. Might get that in the near future too Wink

I was the same, always wanted sylvanian families, was never allowed them. Go for it and if you live near me il come round to play Smile

TooManyButtons · 04/02/2018 11:08

I've fallen down a Sylvanian Families rabbit hole now. I never had any when I was a child, and absolutely adore miniatures. I feel I need a kangaroo family, and the little seaside set with sweet little deckchairs and windbreak. And a caravan. I mean, it would be a great investment for future grandchildren wouldn't it.

NewYearNiki · 04/02/2018 11:10

Do it and post pictures.

I sometimes buy toys as an adult.

TooManyButtons · 04/02/2018 11:17

Look! The dad's called Bruce and the mum is Sheila!

Buy them. I buy my ds stuff that I didn’t have as a child. Get it out of your system!

booqueue · 04/02/2018 13:25

Hahaha grated carrot stick would be fab!

Thanks all. Going next weekend now to get them and probably start some kinda addiction/collection....

Could be worse Grin

I am 38 and DD4's Auntie who is mid 40s both collect Sylvanians. Me under the guise they are for DD (there is a whole Sylvanian village in her bedroom taking up the whole floor!). Why not OP? Im not remotely ashamed to admit this and dont drink/smoke/have a life but do enjoy a little play with the aliens as DD calls them. Am currently trying not to buy her a fluffy little Thelwellesque pony for my own entertainment Grin

barefoofdoctor · 04/02/2018 14:23

PS. I dont think the persian cats are really made for children as bits of fluff etc stick to their fur really easily. Id go for the kangaroos (tiny baby in a pouch Shock ) or the koalas (super cute). Ah. lies back and basks in blissful delusions of normality

booqueue · 04/02/2018 14:53

@barefoofdoctor love it!

My mum used to like to play with my toys, often bought me what she wanted herself Grin have to admit she did pick well

I don't drink (much) smoke or spend much on clothes etc so yeah a little collection might not hurt. My DP thinks I'm mad but he's known me long enough and can't argue he has a loft full of his old action men, cars and football stuff

FluffyDavis · 04/02/2018 15:01

The Persian cats are fluff magnets! Dd has them and they now look bloody awful. I will hunt them out and post a pic, would recommend the ones with smooth coats Smile

mummyhaschangedhername · 04/02/2018 15:04

Well my mother is in her 60s and her house is full of it, she does let my children play with it, but even they know it's all hers. 😂
