..to want to report some people for claiming falsely too much child tax and working tax credits?

they drive me mad and i hate the fact that they have actually told me they are scamming the CTC and WTC people.

He earns a fortune in computers and she is a SAHM and pregnant with her 4th.

They are not married and have claimed that she is working a few hours a week with fulltime childcare paid for as his PA. They have given a different address for him so it looks like she is a tenant in his house.

So CTC and WTC think she is struggling to get by on a few hours a week, forking out on nurseries and she will get the full whack of money....over £900 per month.

She drives a 4x4 EVIL Lexus and is always showing off bout the holidays they have and their 6 bedroom house blah blah blah and I think I am going to grass them up.

What do you think?

Good luck, Expat. I remember when we did our first DLA it was very depressing to think of and point out all the negatives. Such a bad memory that we didn't renew it for the past two years after it lapsed. Then I took courage and did it a few nights ago.

1dilemma · 03/05/2007 22:48

Can't understand why they would pay for full time childcare if she says she's only working a few hours a week. Have I missed something?

CristinaTheAstonishing · 03/05/2007 22:51

I've only just looked at the paperwork for this. I think you have to work at least 16 hours a week (I only do 10...) to be able to claim the childcare component, but then you're not asked how many hours a week the child goes to childcare, only how much you estimate you pay weekly for them.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 03/05/2007 22:52

Also this childcare estimate allows for periods when you may be paying more, e.g. during school holidays they may be in a playscheme etc. It's definitely not done by estimated weekly hours of childcare, only weekly cost.

1dilemma · 03/05/2007 22:54

Ah thanks Christina it's a bit daft isn't it. You'd still like to hope the people processing the forms would think 'bl%$dy expensive childcare' or similar. Probably not allowed to.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 03/05/2007 22:59

That's probably why you have to provide the name, address & phone number of the childcare provider as well as their registration number. I think a ridiculous claim can always be followed up with a letter/phone call. E.g. my DD could be in nursery 2 days a week, although I only work 10 hours, to allow for travelling time. She's actually only 1 day. I would like her to go 2 days as it would make life easier for me, in fact even 3, but I'd still need to pay the money first. I don't know how these tax credits work, I mean i'm sure you don't get a full refund of costs, just a bit of subsidy. Does anyone know? As I mentioned, i don't qualify anyway as I don't work 16 hours or more, but I'm interested. Funny how a well-educated woman like me can have trouble understanding something which should be in plain English.

1dilemma · 03/05/2007 23:10

I would guess just a subsidy which gets more the less you earn (iyswim) but it's total guess! Hopefully someone will tell us soon....

CristinaTheAstonishing · 03/05/2007 23:15

That's what I think too. It only takes a phonecall to check on this with the nursery. I'm assuming here each application is checked by a human rather than a computer...

'Don't see where I'm riled up just because I disagree w/theft, powder.'

I disagree with theft as well. What is your argument?

SofiaAmes · 04/05/2007 08:40

Yes, that's correct about the childcare hours not being related to the hours that you work. I worked part time at various points, but had my children in fulltime childcare and got reimbursed for the full time childcare.

expatinscotland · 04/05/2007 08:57

Well, I don't come on here to argue, powder, so if you're stirring, it isn't going to work.

I fail to see where I should 'chill out' because I agree with reporting benefits cheats, who are law-breakers and thieves.

powder28 · 04/05/2007 09:25

Ok expat, I thought you were implying that I condoned theft.
I think, in fact, things can get very misinterpreted on these threads.
I'm not stirring, i was responding to your post.
Let's leave it at that.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 04/05/2007 11:49

I read a bit more about the childcare bit, it's reimbursed 80% of up to £175 per week per child or 80% of up to £300 for two or more children but I think there's some sliding scale depending on actual income too. Did I get this right? In fact, the more I read about them the more it seems not worth the hassle as mistakes/overpayments quite frequent.

LozzieG · 16/09/2008 14:52

I think this is all terrible. I work 30 hours and my husband is in full time work, we hardly have any help towards our childcare. I remember writing to the tax credit office to let them know my change in working hours, change in pay and my change in childcare costs, they updated my hours and pay but left my childcare because i had let them know 'to early' so i was penalised. I mean am i right in understanding that the Government are keen on getting mum's back to work, yet i work and half my wages are paid out for someone else to have the privilege of caring for my son.

What i should of done is not returned to work!! there are plenty of people who seem to be far more better off being 'stay at home parents'through this tax credit system than those of us who have got off our a**es and got work!!

2beornot2be · 16/09/2008 16:56

I am assuming that this woman is a friend of yours else she wouldn't tell you that she was cheating tax credits are you friends?

MrsMattie · 16/09/2008 16:58

Don't do it.

sitdownpleasegeorge · 17/09/2008 04:08

It would be nice to know if there was an investigation of collisions's friends' claims as a result of her action though wouldn't it ?

Where is she, does she still post ?

lilysmummy2007 · 17/09/2008 06:55

i would stay out of it, mind your own business as whatever they are doing is taking no skin off your back, the system will catch up with them eventually
