Odd email from customer

shoeaddict83 · 02/02/2018 10:26

So i emailed a customer this morning about an issue, they asked if i could get it resolved today and i assured them i would as after today im off for 3 weeks. They then email back and ask if im off anywhere nice and i reply to say im going abroad to get married.

Reply from them 'Happy pre-divorce party'

Hmm

AIBU to think this is a bit of an odd, uncalled for reply from someone ive maybe exchanged a handful of emails with in a work capacity? If a good friend said it i might laugh off their cynicism, but a virtual stranger? Or am i just being over sensitive?!!! Not going to respond just wondered if anyone else thought this was strange!

That is an odd thing to say

Royalfuckup · 02/02/2018 10:28

Gosh that is very odd!

mumpoints · 02/02/2018 10:28

Perhaps the customer is going through a bad break up and is cynical? No need to take it out on you though!

FlyingElbows · 02/02/2018 10:29

That's a totally inappropriate thing to say unless you're a close friend with the self-awareness to know you're bitter. Just ignore it.

MamaLupine · 02/02/2018 10:29

Sounds like a right bitter bastard.

SwarmOfCats · 02/02/2018 10:32

Sounds like somebody is trying to be funny and failing spectacularly

Yeah i was going to reply ' You're divorced/divorcing i take it' but not bothered. Just sat here and thought that was a very odd thing to say but wondered if it was me having a sense of humour failure?!!

Rude twat!
"Sorry your wife/husband left you/found out you were cheating/got fed up of your shit jokes"

I'd not be working for them again. What a monumental TWAT! How rude!

Hissy · 02/02/2018 10:41

Congrats on your wedding, have a fabulous time and when you get back, make a note to NOT work for them again.

PennyDreadfull · 02/02/2018 10:43

Incredibly rude comment!

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 02/02/2018 10:43

That's just knobish. I wouldn't even say that to someone I'm close too even if I thought they'd be divorced within 12 months.

I hope you have a fabulous time & a lovely wedding!

Littlejayx · 02/02/2018 10:45

When I emailed a customer about going on maternity leave and explaining how someone else will be looking after the account, her response was

“ I hope you enjoy your time off, your life is over “

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 02/02/2018 10:47

How bloody rude!

honeyroar · 02/02/2018 10:47

That was a pretty horrible thing to say to someone who is getting married! I was pretty bitter when my ex left, and may have thought that to myself, but I'd never have said it, and I'm known for saying what I think too much!

They ought to apologise for that. I'd just keep contact civil and workmanlike. I wouldn't answer any more chitchat questions.

shoeaddict83 · 02/02/2018 10:48

Littlejayx Omg what a thing to say!! What is that people think they can say what hey like over email? Would they say it to your face do you think?

And thanks all for the congrats, very excited (and not intending for it to end in divorce!!!!Hmm )

Tink2007 · 02/02/2018 10:48

That’s just so bloody odd.

StealthPolarBear · 02/02/2018 10:49

Chip on their shoulder, nothing to do with you. Ignore entirely.
Congratulations. I've been married 13 years and still happy :)

Rainboho · 02/02/2018 10:50

I would guess they have a very dry sense of humour. Like me. Because both the OP and the “ I hope you enjoy your time off, your life is over” made me snort.

But I am an acquired taste.

HeckyPeck · 02/02/2018 10:51

Very odd! I would ignore then email them once the issue was resolved to let them know it was all sorted and not mention their weird comment.

ReanimatedSGB · 02/02/2018 10:51

It's rude and inappropriate, but this person is probably the sort of 'plain-speaking' twat who thinks s/he is hilariously outspoken and brave.
Just ignore it. Who cares what some random knobber thinks?

HeckyPeck · 02/02/2018 10:51

Ps: congratulations! I hope you have a wonderful wedding 👰🏼

SlothMama · 02/02/2018 10:52

Have a lovely wedding! It could just be a weird not well thought out joke? My customer base has a few oddballs in it that would probably come out with the same thing tbh...
