Odd email from customer

shoeaddict83 · 02/02/2018 10:26

So i emailed a customer this morning about an issue, they asked if i could get it resolved today and i assured them i would as after today im off for 3 weeks. They then email back and ask if im off anywhere nice and i reply to say im going abroad to get married.

Reply from them 'Happy pre-divorce party'

Hmm

AIBU to think this is a bit of an odd, uncalled for reply from someone ive maybe exchanged a handful of emails with in a work capacity? If a good friend said it i might laugh off their cynicism, but a virtual stranger? Or am i just being over sensitive?!!! Not going to respond just wondered if anyone else thought this was strange!

to clarify i am not going to reply and am sure he is just a total knob thinking hes funny, (possibly why wife divorced him?!!! Grin )
i just wanted to ask if it was me not getting the joke or if others thought it was a very odd thing to send someone you barely know! Seems most agree so im glad it isnt just me!

4 hours to get through and thats me done with work!!!

Congratulations OP. How exciting.

There really are some inappropriate idiots out there. Why on earth would someone say such a thing? There's nowt as queer as folk!! Don't give it another thought.

cakecakecheese · 02/02/2018 10:58

Wow. That might be the sort of thing you might say to a friend if you've got that kind of relationship but to someone you're conducting business with that's really off. I'm divorced but it doesn't stop me wishing people well for their marriages, so yes congratualtions Smile

LittleTinyPig · 02/02/2018 10:59

I know people who would write something like that. They think they are so alternative and cynical, but actually they are just twats.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 02/02/2018 11:00

It would depend what mood I was in how I’d take it.

However, as blunt as I am, I’d never say that to someone.

I hope you have a lovely wedding 💐🍹🎉🍾 but even more importantly a wonderful marriage 💕

BanyanTree · 02/02/2018 11:08

I'd reply "Oh, I've been rumbled. Yes, I am just in it for the holiday, presents and dress Wink"

YourVagesty · 02/02/2018 11:10

Being (very) generous, i'd think this was a mid-judged joke. But yeah, what a twat.

Is this customer a middle aged man by any chance?

barefoofdoctor · 02/02/2018 11:11

Bit odd from a customer and when typed out (as opposed to said laughingly). Bitter much?

Flomy · 02/02/2018 11:11

Email him back,

Thanks, been meaning to ask...do you play football?

For Knobhead United?

runawaywithme07 · 02/02/2018 11:33

Meh. I would just take it as dry humour and I'd reply with the same type of comment as BanyanTree. I don't think it's something to get upset over.

FizzyGreenWater · 02/02/2018 11:40

How weird. I'd reply

'Oh I'm so sorry if that is a sensitive subject for you.'

...thus acknowledging that all they'd done is waved a massive flag saying 'I HAVE ISSUES'

Amie021 · 02/02/2018 11:40

Hiya

Don't reply! It could open up a can of worms. It is a very bizarre thing to say. I hope you have a lovely wedding and many congratulations. (From a long time divorcee!)

Lobsterquadrille2 · 02/02/2018 15:18

Congratulations!! Yes, extremely odd thing to say but I agree with the dry humour comments - as in happily married people saying it's their 20th anniversary..... then a pause .... then "you get less than that for murder".

Mogginthemog · 02/02/2018 15:22

Rude and bizarre

RedWineAllMine · 02/02/2018 15:36

Just laugh it off. I think they meant it to be humorous/banter, but obviously very bad humour! Hmm
Sounds like a divorcee, or maybe someone that has never got married but wanted to, and is perhaps very bitter about the whole thing.
But your right, it's not something you would say to a stranger, I could understand if it was a friend who you knew for years etc.

PurplePotatoes · 02/02/2018 15:42

No it's not you, that's totally inappropriate!

My boss was divorced - on my last day at work before my wedding they had done a collection and she was the one doing the speech - she said "enjoy it while it lasts the divorce will be next hahaha" everyone was really shocked but i knew she was just bitter and found it quite funny.

NotTreacs · 02/02/2018 15:46

Very rude thing to say, your client is obviously bitter & angry.

Have a lovely wedding and congratulations Thanks

FilledSoda · 02/02/2018 15:47

Just a rude idiot, and as a poster upthread said , ' your silence will speak vo!umes '.

Trinity66 · 02/02/2018 15:50

How rude and insensitive to say that to some just about to get married :/

Trinity66 · 02/02/2018 15:50

someone*

Trinity66 · 02/02/2018 15:51

Oh also, congrats Flowers

VitriolicMuse · 02/02/2018 15:52

Clearly bitter, I wouldn't take it personally and don't give it anymore thought. Congratulations and enjoy your wedding day.

MichaelBendfaster · 02/02/2018 15:52

How odd. Politely ignore.

whiskyowl · 02/02/2018 15:53

I think that's rude and insensitive. And I usually enjoy fairly cynical/sarcastic humour.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 02/02/2018 15:55

How odd.
I'd reply as normal but cc in my line manager. That should stop.unprofessional exchanges.
