Odd email from customer

shoeaddict83 · 02/02/2018 10:26

So i emailed a customer this morning about an issue, they asked if i could get it resolved today and i assured them i would as after today im off for 3 weeks. They then email back and ask if im off anywhere nice and i reply to say im going abroad to get married.

Reply from them 'Happy pre-divorce party'

Hmm

AIBU to think this is a bit of an odd, uncalled for reply from someone ive maybe exchanged a handful of emails with in a work capacity? If a good friend said it i might laugh off their cynicism, but a virtual stranger? Or am i just being over sensitive?!!! Not going to respond just wondered if anyone else thought this was strange!

This would provoke my exquisitely polite but cool behaviour to him in future.

Jaxhog · 02/02/2018 15:59

It's rude and inappropriate... Who cares what some random knobber thinks?
This

Don't take any notice of the rude, bitter and twisted person. Many marriages work out great. Mine for one. Congratulations!

I would think it's a joke and meant as a joke. The sort of thing you'd put a smiley emoji afterwards. The person probably thinks they are hilarious, they probably use their great line at every wedding opportunity. I would just forget about it.

Probably writes 'One year closer to the grave' when they send people birthday cards.

BrendasUmbrella · 02/02/2018 16:24

Probably one of those "legend in his own lunchtime" types who thinks he's a comedy genius. Don't acknowledge it.

Pepperedbeef · 02/02/2018 16:29

It’s the kind of thing I’d say to a close friend who knows me but not to anyone else

TieGrr · 02/02/2018 16:39

"Oh, that reminds me. I need to sort out pre-nup today. Sorry, you'll have to wait until I'm back in 3 weeks to sort that issue for you."

dingdongdigeridoo · 02/02/2018 17:18

People say some weird shit in emails. When I was pregnant with DS, I was a student. I emailed student support to let them know and I still remember the opening line to the reply.

‘Congratulations on your pregnancy and deciding to keep your baby. I am sure you will not regret it.’

Granted, her first language wasn’t English, but that’s a weird thing to say since an abortion hadn’t crossed my mind!

MeYouYouMe · 02/02/2018 19:58

It wouldn't bother me and I wouldn't even think it was that weird. It's not unusual for people to have a shite sense of humour and to misjudge what they think is a witty comment.

It's not funny and it was stupid of him to say it but I suspect it wasn't meant unkindly.

I'd ignore it and not give it any thought.

PS. Have a great wedding.

shoeaddict83 · 02/02/2018 20:19

Thanks everyone! I did ignore it as I said I just thought I’d ask if it was odd!!!
Me and FH currently sat with second bottle of red celebrating impending nuptials!! Happy Friday and Thankyou for all your congratulations xx
