To ask you to tell me I'm being ridiculous? (Cough/pain/bleeding)

I've had a monstrous cough for the last ten days. Since yesterday, every time I cough I get a stabbing pain where my c section scar is. Now the whole area around my scar is aching even when im not coughing. Didn't think too much about it until I went for a wee and noticed I was spotting. I don't have periods so I'm a bit freaked out.

People of mumsnet, please tell me I am batshit crazy to think I have ripped open a six yr old c section scar with a cough? It's a very violent cough and I'm coughing every 10 minutes or so but surely impossible?

Why do you not have periods? Is it because of contraception? I have a Mirena and no periods, but occasionally a little spotting,

The scar.... well the muscles there have been damaged. Every time you cough you're pulling them all over the place.

I genuinely think you ache because you're coughing, and not through a scar rupture.

If you pull a muscle in your ankle, it still hurts even if you're resting it. Muscles are same all over xxxx

I seriously doubt a six year old scar could rupture. I would ring 111 to check the symptoms of spotting and pain out, and go to GP if they suggested it.

I honestly feel like I am being ridiculous, but it's so painful Blush. I did call the gp in hopes they would laugh at me, but they've booked an appointment for me which isn't really helping me relax..

Sorry - no periods is due to contraception.

I pulled a muscle in my chest through coughing once. Then you can’t ‘rest’ it because you’re still coughing.

Like me then :)

I'll bet a tenner you've just pulled your muscles. Really common! Specially if you tend to tense when the cough starts to hurt.

And the spotting.... I get it when I'm getting to the end run of my Mirena. Or when I have a heavy cold. It's like nature wants to beat me up or something!

When I was young, in my pre Mirena days I would come on if I got a cold. Regardless of when it was in my cycle, I'd have a period!

Sohardtochooseausername · 01/02/2018 22:45

I don’t know about the spotting, if it was me I’d get a GP appointment to get it checked out. Totally with you on the cough though - I’m at my wits end with it!

Rachie That is bizarre! How much does your womb hate you Grin Flowers

I am happy to hope I have just pulled a muscle and I am being a wazzock, that would be the happiest outcome. No more signs of spotting, and the pain has eased off a bit with a hot water bottle so looking hopeful. I have a gp app tomorrow am, just in case it flares up again.

sohard it's ridiculous isn't it! 10 days and it's not looked like calming down once. Fingers crossed it clears up soon for all of us Flowers

You can definitely do yourself some damage from coughing. In 2016 I had pleurisy and whooping cough. I was ill from the end of March to the end of August and broke four ribs from coughing which didn’t heal until the cough subsided. I had a lung scan and they showed up. God it was grim, gave me severe stress incontinence too, I wasn’t really right for months after.

I’ve had severe coughs with chest infections before and also pulled muscles in my back/side/stomach so I suspect you’ve pulled something internally.

I was told that a severe cough will easily take 3 weeks subside. It’s worth getting checked though OP, it really is horrid so I do hope you’re on the mend soon. 💐

I was advised that antihistamines can help break/ease the cough reflex for sleeping, piriton helped to a degree, maybe worth a try. Also support yourself with your hands on the painful area or holding a cushion when you cough helps.
