Anyone following this?

Some of the comments from the army- that he is Kate's 'property' and that it would be better if he died in transit than at Alder Hey (someone did say 'he's not a fucking parcel!' in response) - seem to have such a lack of concern for Alfie. For all they protest to care why would anyone wish a chaotic and distressing death on him rather than him being made comfortable in familiar surroundings.

MadameGrizzly · 22/04/2018 20:33

It just very much sounds like someone who’s never been told “no” before and thinks that if they stamp their feet loud enough they’ll get what they want.

This is a really pertinent point.

On the one hand you have a young adult with their fingers in their ears alternating between 'I can't hear you!' and 'You can't tell me what to do!'.

On the other hand, this is fame/recognition/power beyond comprehension for an uneducated, young parent from up North.

It's quite the paradox.

I also wonder if this is why the grandparents have kept a low profile? They inherently understand that our Tom has never been one to be told no.

Grief sends people mad but this is next level stuff.

IrenetheQuaint · 22/04/2018 20:34

"Is it wrong of me to think that we have entered the Age of Stupid?"

There's nothing new in individual or mob delusion. On some level the members of Alfie's Army would rather believe that they are valiant protestors fighting for a vulnerable baby and his family against the evil uncaring Establishment, than that the Establishment is right and there is no hope for Alfie. They are people for whom an absorbing narrative of good against evil holds much more power than do some dry legal and medical documents.

CamomileTeaShotofVodka · 22/04/2018 20:36

why would anyone wish a chaotic and distressing death on him rather than him being made comfortable in familiar surroundings.

Because unfortunately it seems that it's not about what's best for Alfie now, it's about THEM and THEIR anger. They'll take the risk of him dying in the back of an ambulance so as not to give AH the 'satisfaction' of 'killing' him.

stitchglitched · 22/04/2018 20:37

I learned a phrase during the Charlie Gard case, the Dunning- Kruger effect. I keep thinking of it when I see the army looking up his medications online and stating with certainty he is on the wrong drugs/ wrong dose. They really seem to think they know better than all the qualified doctors caring for him.

Good point. I doubt many have read the judgement, they were actively discouraging anyone from sharing any links during the last hearing, telling people to wait to hear the truth from an 'admin' or the parents.

theredjellybean · 22/04/2018 20:47

i am afraid the dunning kruger effect is more and more prevalent.
I am a gp and regularly get told i am wrong by patients, when basically i tell them or give then advice that they frankly dont like..as in no you dont need antibiotics for viral infections....or i dont think you are suffering from chronic lymes disease because i have done the tests and they are negative...it is impossible to reason /explain/discuss with these type of people, and i am sorry to say but i have come to realise its because they are frankly stupid / lack the intellectual capacity to understand

miffytherabbit1974 · 22/04/2018 20:51

"Ok now someone has tagged Kim Jong Un...."

OK. Now I definitely stand by my earlier claim that we've entered The Age of Stupid.

Are they going through the celebrity/well-known person/infamous dictator phone book right now? Peter Andre, Danny Dyer, The Pope, The Queen, Kim Jong Un?

What is their train of thought? "Oooh! I know who can help - Bashar al Assad! Hmmmm... what about Danniella Westbrook? Shall we spam-tweet her too?"

NotACleverName · 22/04/2018 20:54

Ok now someone has tagged Kim Jong Un....

Do they want him to nuke Alder Hey or something?

BoreOfWhabylon · 22/04/2018 20:55

@IrenetheQuaint the appeals to the Queen etc are tactics of the Free Man Of The Land movement. I posted a link upthread. They are batshit loons and I feel sure TE has been influenced by them because they will be telling him exactly what he wants to hear.

MynameisJune · 22/04/2018 20:58

I’ve seen someone tag in Justin Trudeau and Amal Clooney now.

The army are telling everyone who asks what the date is although if it’s the one they are saying then I can’t imagine it will go ahead due to the ECHR appeal.

And wtf is with all copying and pasting of that petition to the queen. Do they really think that’s going to work?

CamomileTeaShotofVodka · 22/04/2018 20:59

NotACleverName that's what I wondered too,I remember with the Charlie Gard case a few people said to burn GOSH down :( It's just hysteria now with literally zero rational thoughts.

Apparently, it's a disgrace that off duty nurses aren't they protesting. They should be using their much needed days off to storm the hospital and demand they let Alfie go. I can't believe what I'm reading on there.

DarkDarkNight · 22/04/2018 21:00

People are asking on Twitter if Kate can not just take him to a waiting ambulance once he is off the ventilator. They have no concept of how ill he is or that he is on life support so that won't work.

I would not have believed the comment about the Pope coming to get him if I had not read it with my own eyes.

So many of the supporters have not grasped the basics of the case. They are still saying he should be given the chance of a cure, but Bambino Gesu are not offering a cure.

It is cruel to drag this out any more. A little child is suffering ongoing invasive treatment of no benefit to him while this goes back and forth. The Drs can not say definitively that he isn't in pain, as a parent I would want an end to any possible suffering.

MynameisJune · 22/04/2018 21:00

Oh and people saying that their kids were given midazolam and fentanyl together to paralyse their lungs so they could rest whilst on the ventilator in PICU and so that must meet that AH are expecting Alfie to breath on his own and won’t let him.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 22/04/2018 21:03

Are they going through the celebrity/well-known person/infamous dictator phone book right now?

Let's look on the bright side - at least they're managing to suggest only those still alive. Call me horrible, but given the level of intelligence I nearly suggested a few others: Ceaucescu of Romania or Pinochet of Chile, perhaps

Or how about Papa Doc Duvalier of Haiti ... after all he was medically trained, so could be no end of use

miffytherabbit1974 · 22/04/2018 21:03

@FlyingBird

"Actually miffy you've just made me think - how long before Eastenders or Corrie do a story like this ...?"

What with the intervention of A.A., I think scriptwriters at this stage would dismiss the plot as being too far out. Besides which, who would play Kim Jong Un?

x2boys · 22/04/2018 21:05

Most of the off duty nurses I know are hash tagging the are with alder hey.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 22/04/2018 21:05

I thought I had imagined the Kim Jong University suggestion as skimmed past... Guess not.

Bratsandtwats · 22/04/2018 21:06

A world renowned FFS! 'Telepathic Healer' is trying to contact the parents now.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 22/04/2018 21:06

University?! Un....
