To think that a dog up at the dining table is disgusting?

My mother and her fechking wank of a husband had my (beloved) little dog up at the table today just after we'd eaten. I almost barfed. I love the little lass and all that but she is a dog ffs! They were even feeding her the onion rings from the plate.

Blurk!
Anything with the ability to lick its' own bits has no place at a dining table, IMO.

lol humphrey!

dionnelorraine · 30/04/2007 09:42

If my dog ate onion rings, we would all have to move out for a couple of days! Or wear gas masks!

SSShakeTheChi · 30/04/2007 09:45

don't like dogs liking people's plates at all

kittyhas6 · 30/04/2007 09:48

yuk, yuk, yuk !!

nickytwotimes · 30/04/2007 09:49

nailpolish · 30/04/2007 09:49

Dogs are disgusting

they lick their own arsehole ffs

TinyGang · 30/04/2007 09:51

Yuuuk, Nooo!

Especially after a friend recently told me the ghastly stuff her dog tries to eat given half a chance....eeuurrgh.

edam · 30/04/2007 09:55

Horrid particularly as it's not even their dog, FGS, so it's not as if they are besotted mad dog owners. Wrong on so many levels but mainly hygiene (I don't care how well people who do this wash the plates, yuck) and encouraging dog to think it's OK to be at the table eating off your dishes - what happens next time the dog sees a plate full of food on the table? How does the dog know it isn't supposed to eat it there and then?

Separate bowls, different utensils and different places for animal and human food IMO.

BrownSuga · 30/04/2007 10:04

Our wee dog will get up on her hind legs and put paws on the kitchen table to see what we're eating, then will sit down next to me to wait for leftovers, which I then let her eat off my plate. What's the problem, the plate gets washed before we next use it.

Can't wait to see the look on my mums' face when she visits in July and sees' me do it though, she's a bit anal about all this cleanliness stuff.

SSShakeTheChi · 30/04/2007 12:22

Why can't you just scrape it into a dog's bowl though BS?

zookeeper · 30/04/2007 12:51

you're not at all - it's a potentially dangerous thing to do as dogs need to know that they are dogs. If you start kissing/cuddling them and letting them eat at the table etc they will become confused about their position and more likely to be agressive. They need to know that they are well down in the pecking order.

I love my dog but...he's a dog ffs!

DonnyLass · 30/04/2007 12:55

gross

a dog came and took a sausage roll out of my mother's hand when she was pushing my daughter in pushchair yesterday ...

oh he's never done that before said the owner

oh that's ok then

NKF · 30/04/2007 16:25

This is clearly one of those situations where dog lovers don't mind and the rest of the population does. To me, the thought of a dog licking my face makes me feel queasy. I don't care that the plate gets washed. I wouldn't want to eat off a dog's dish. I don't want to sleep in a dog's basket either. Or let a dog sleep on my bed.

pointydog · 30/04/2007 17:16

If you let a dog up at the dinner table, he'll soon start thinking he's the host and before you know it he'll be carving the roast and pouring the wine.

Not on

zookeeper · 30/04/2007 18:11

..and biting the children

happytalk · 30/04/2007 18:15

If it hasnt allready been said, onions are bad for dogs, along with, chocolate (poisenous to them) grapes(?),apple cores and something else i forget.

Totally agree with zookeeper.

TBH I don't really care about the hygiene thing; it's revolting, but there are dishwashers and washing up liquid, so that deals with that.

But the discipline angle for the dog is what's so wrong. I just hate people who make their dog into a pack leader and then get surprised when it asserts dominance over the baby. Morons.

SuGaRCoAteDPoiSOn · 01/05/2007 08:16

yup.. it's gross.. I used to go out with someoene who was obsessed over his dog.. he couldnt' understand why I wouldn't let him kiss me or touch me without having washed his face, mouth and hands first.

Needless to say that relationship did not last

pointydog · 01/05/2007 17:28

that dog'll be demanding a threesome soon.

KNow your place, hound

Blu · 01/05/2007 17:35

LOL at Pointydog!

booge · 01/05/2007 17:46

I can't believe you all think this is so gross, Mum's dog sometimes has her own chair, sits there watching the conversation. OK titbits aren't good for a dog but that's the only problem I have with it.

donnie · 01/05/2007 17:47

ohhhh pukerama.
