Every week!
I just wash as many loads as needed to empty it usually 3-4 loads
Repeat following week

Fizzyknickers · 01/02/2018 10:22

Ah yes. The lesser spotted ‘washing basket zero’

God knows! I can’t remember!

TwoShades1 · 01/02/2018 10:32

Every week? I’m confused by this thread. Do people just not bother doing all their washing? I can kinda understand leaving it to build up a bit then having to do it coz your running out of clothes, but if I’m doing the washing then I do it all.

saladdays66 · 01/02/2018 10:34

Today!!

steppemum · 01/02/2018 10:40

I am confused by this thread too.
Every week I empty it out into a huge pile on the floor and sort it into loads and then stick the loads in the machine one after another until they are all done.

Pibplob · 01/02/2018 10:43

Monday! It'll be full again by tomorrow evening so I will do another load then. Sunday will do another load including bedding and towels. I do 3-4 loads a week. The 4th load is whites and lights. We are a family of 4. The washing machine is a 9kg and it makes a big difference from the amount of loads I used to do with my 6kg machine. I used to do about 6 or 7 loads then. We also wear until dirty and don't just wash after one wear if it doesn't need to. So much better than constantly having tons of washing and much better for the environment too.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 01/02/2018 10:45

My laundry basket is the washing machine. Problem solved! 😂

Showergel1 · 01/02/2018 11:01

I'm bloody drowning in laundry. Washing machine has been slowly packing up since November but of course the fridge decided to pack up too so had to prioritise that first.
Been shipping out laundry left, right and centre this week to helpful friends and family.
The bottom of the basket is most commonly seen in the summer. In winter there's always woollen hand wash only do not tumble dry annoying clothes that linger.

misscheery · 01/02/2018 11:56

Quite rarely tbf, but yesterday I did! And now it's currently empty... Ih, the feeling! Also cleaned my house top to bottom today and bought lovely flowers for all the vases. Wonder how long is gonna last

Idontdowindows · 01/02/2018 11:57

We just moved house, I can recommend it as a very effective method to get rid of extra laundry :D

I have never done all the washing. The last time I saw the bottom of my washing baskets was when I bought them.

I do feel a bit sorry for the poor lambs who are confused by this. You'd better get busy with some brain exercises.

Solly76 · 01/02/2018 12:07

Does a laundry basket even have a Bottom?

Freshprincess · 01/02/2018 12:08

Usually every Sunday afternoon, till the kids get back from their dads.

The putting away basket is a different story. I'm convinced it's about 11ft deep.

InsomniacAnonymous · 01/02/2018 12:09

Falmer "1991. Not joking!!"

I don't understand. Why is there stuff in the laundry basket if you're not going to wash it? You obviously don't need it, so throw it away. Mine's emptied 3 times a week. Isn't that the point?

Tiddler7 · 01/02/2018 12:12

Every Sunday night, I tend to go through laundry at the weekends, so by Sunday everything is washed and ironed (shirts).

TheFairyCaravan · 01/02/2018 12:12

All the time and the bottom of the ironing basket. I really can’t understand the concept of letting the laundry mount up and never getting to the bottom of it. It would stress me out too much.

thecatsthecats · 01/02/2018 12:14

The stuff that needs dry cleaning has been churning around in there for a couple of years.

I see the bottom of it weekly, because we do one load a week (whites, or darks, or blues/reds/greens - we have enough of those to do the odd single colour wash). So each week I turf out the whole basket, pick out the colour of the next week, then over the week we add the mixed stuff to the big basket and the individual stuff to the little one.

Some things wait a couple of weeks to be washed, some get washed immediately. They all come out clean and I'm not a slave to the washing machine. Win win.

happymummy12345 · 01/02/2018 12:15

The weekend just gone when I done all my washing..

GriefLeavesItsMark · 01/02/2018 12:15

Actually quite often. Empty on to floor, sort, look at the handwash only stuff. Think 'I can't be fucked', put back in basket.

Bigfatchips · 01/02/2018 12:16

Gosh, I'm going to have to explain this very carefully and slowly.

Dirty clothes go in a laundry basket.
Someone in the house puts them in the machine and washes them.
There might be too many dirty clothes in the basket to fit in the machine, or they might be for instance black jeans and socks when the load of the day in the machine is white sheets.
They stay in the basket until there is a dark load to do.
Meanwhile, a day or so later, someone has put more whites or lights or colours in the basket or some jumpers or bathmats or whatever.
So the black clothes now go in the machine but all the other dirty clothes from the intervening days are now in the basket.

I don't mind doing more or less a load per day but I'm fucked if I'm going to spend an entire day shunting laundry between the washer and the dryer and putting it away.

Having dirty clothes in my laundry baskets doesn't bother me at all! I rather think that's what they are there for.

paap1975 · 01/02/2018 12:20

It happens sometimes, but never lasts long. Usually there is something (delicate or special) waiting in there for something else similar to join it so that I deem it worth putting a wash on. Regular loads of dark/white/sheets/towels take care of most things

Olddear · 01/02/2018 12:28

Every week. Like a pp said, tip it up, separate, wash. Repeat.

MissMooMoo · 01/02/2018 12:31

I do a few washes a week, often see the bottom.
I'm a bit surprised people have stuff in there for years! Throw it away

geekone · 01/02/2018 12:33

Mine is empty today basking in my superiority Grin

To be fair my DH does the most of it, I just happened to put it on today....
