to wonder how you live with yourself if you work in a JobCentre?

Really, just that. Sanctioning people for whatever reason you can think of to meet your targets. Expecting people to attend twenty minutes early for appointments then being forty minutes late seeing them. 'Signposting' people to foodbanks whilst refusing to acknowledge that you're referring people there because the state has failed them.
I understand that people need to earn a living, but to do that off the back of people more vulnerable than yourself? Sounds like bullying to me.
I don't claim benefits, and hopefully never will.

They are probably just people desperate for a Job themselves and trying to keep their jobs. Don't blame them , blame the government / DWP or whoever.

AccrualIntentions · 31/01/2018 20:26

Hopefully you'll never need to take a job in a Jobcentre to be able to pay your bills and feed your family either then.

RedHelenB · 31/01/2018 20:27

Those 8 know that worked there wanted to help so yabu

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 31/01/2018 20:27

Judgeymcjudge.

ShastaTrinity · 31/01/2018 20:27

Bit harsh.
People do need a job, and there's good and bad everywhere. It's really unfair to blame someone who is trying to help others but has to follow current rules.

You are also very naive if you think that all job seekers are pleasant and dedicated individuals. It must be tiring to deal with piss takers all day long.

EggsonHeads · 31/01/2018 20:27

I would imagine very grateful that I had a job and wasn't sitting on the other side of the desk!

MexicanBob · 31/01/2018 20:28

One of the nicest guys I know works in a Jobcentre (Hi Al).

Rainboho · 31/01/2018 20:28

If you don’t claim benefits and never will, where are getting your information from?

I find it strange that you’ve posted this and yet are at great pains to make us all aware that you aren’t on benefits.

lljkk · 31/01/2018 20:28

What are the ppl working in JC supposed to do, OP?
Quit rather than implement govt policy? Don't be daft.

I can think of more morally questionable jobs, to be honest. Bailiffs and working in an abattoir to name but two.

Oh dear, have you just been sanctioned?

Ylvamoon · 31/01/2018 20:30

Do you think the job centre staff have a choice?
As in ...Expecting people to attend twenty minutes early for appointments then being forty minutes late seeing them. 'Signposting' people to foodbanks whilst refusing to acknowledge that you're referring people there?

ShatnersBassoon · 31/01/2018 20:30

Some poor sods have to work there. I don't think I could.
They're not the policy-makers, so it's unfair to direct your anger at the staff who have to deal with the public.

LittleMe03 · 31/01/2018 20:31

Just like everybody else who works they have to follow the rules and policies in order to keep their job!

They are only following the guidelines and policies that they have to

MrsLaurac · 31/01/2018 20:31

Because they have to put food on their tables? Heating on the meter. It is harsh granted but they are the government's rules

GreenTulips · 31/01/2018 20:31

There more to a job center than disciplining people and dishing out sanctions - they do CVs training and voluntary work as well

They have rules to follow - and you know assume there client are actual grown ups who've had the system explained to them over and over again and have failed to comply, so get sanctioned -

Don't get your problem

Rebeccaslicker · 31/01/2018 20:32

What we need here is a biscuit that can also roll its eyes Biscuit Hmm

Daisydaisygivemeyouranswer · 31/01/2018 20:32

Stinky - agree with some of your points but not The one about waiting. It has really annoyed me. Sometimes you have to wait. People have to wait for all kinds of appointments. That’s life. There are bigger problems.
These people claiming need to be seen at the job centre for support to get work. The job centres like every other public service have had cuts. It’s hardly the staffs fault those claiming have to wait to be seen.

That’s about as ridiculous as saying it’s doctors fault people are waiting in a and e and how do doctors live with themselves. Not it’s the government underfunding the system so staff are working under pressure.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 31/01/2018 20:32

I do 100% see exactly what youre saying and i do fully take your point and on the face if it youre right.
However, Just because they work there
does not in anyway mean they agree with it. Theyre just desperate not to be sitting the other side of the desk.
It's the Government that gets a hard on over sanctions not JC workers.
Theyre just another puppet on a string. Who are put in the front line.

zsazsajuju · 31/01/2018 20:32

You don’t claim benefits so how would you know? I had to claim for a short period after I moved and left my job. The people were kind and decent - I didn’t know what to expect and I can’t imagine it’s an easy job. Of course I am sure some people who work in job centres are cruel and mean like anywhere else. But that’s life

specialsubject · 31/01/2018 20:33

The bailiff allowed me to get back into my property, got the dealers out ( to the relief of the neighbourhood) and meant I could start the filth removal. Without her I'd still be paying to house dealers.

thegamblersmrs · 31/01/2018 20:33

My mum took a job in the job centre as she felt obliged, it came up whilst she was looking and the adviser at the JC suggested it to her.
She lasted a week, I've never seen her so unwell. Her training was a book and she was stuck behind glass with people shouting all sorts of abuse at her for working there.
She came home a wreck every night due to the abuse she suffered. She had to quit after a week and couldn't claim any benefits for 13 weeks as she'd willingly left employment.
That's what other people's judgements did to her!

Iworrytoomuchh · 31/01/2018 20:33

What a load of bollocks. I’ve worked in benefits, I’ve had to suspend claims etc out of protocol. I felt sorry for people, of course I did but it was my job and I had to do it.
I would never stop someone’s benefits to meet targets.
Also it is NOT an easy job. I had a computer thrown at me while 38 weeks pregnant, I was spat at, threatened, followed home from work, harassed and more. It was work there or claim benefits myself.
When I first started I earned pretty much minimum wage, it was the worst years of my life working there, sure opened my eyes to how vile people can be.
