I think it is a great thing.

Some people on my FB clearly don't.

They’re not advertising anything 😂 give over

OddBoots · 31/01/2018 19:35

I am glad, I don't watch F1 but I to watch BTCC and I hope they follow suit. The other F races including Formula-E don't use them and are no the worse for it.

specialsubject · 31/01/2018 19:35

Sends a terrible message that men do and women decorate.

Sorry about the loss of what was no doubt piss easy money, but that's work for you. They should think of it as good while it lasted.

Modelling ( starve and strut) sounds no fun at all!

Mawalls · 31/01/2018 19:36

If feminism is to mean anything it has to mean an increasing reduction in womens liberties.

ThePinkOcelot · 31/01/2018 19:36

Well they never look like they’ve been frog marched with their arm up their backs on to the grid! They’ll get paid for doing it as well. I should imagine they probably enjoy the work.
There’s do gooders everywhere who spoil things for others ie. these girls earning some money! Let’s just do away with modelling all together eh?

StickThatInYourPipe · 31/01/2018 19:36

Cherrycokewinning ok I must have imagined all the fully clothed women wearing sponsor logos all over their clothes on one quick grid girl google image search!

gluteustothemaximus · 31/01/2018 19:37

I see men are outraged by this. Women’s rights etc.

Are these same men campaigning for all women’s rights, equal pay etc or just standing up for the sexy semi naked ones Hmm

Cherrycokewinning · 31/01/2018 19:38

Having just done a google image search you absolutely imagined that.

StickThatInYourPipe · 31/01/2018 19:39

Are these naked without logos? Weird!

As I said, piss easy money. Probably the last of such jobs!

Cherrycokewinning · 31/01/2018 19:42

Yeah?

Ratonastick · 31/01/2018 19:42

It’s bloody great and about time. They have been a loud, clear message that Susie Wolff, Monisha Kaltenborn, Danica Patrick, Claire Williams, Maria de Vilota, etc had no place in the boys club. Long overdue.

Cherrycokewinning · 31/01/2018 19:43

Photos now attached Grin

FloydOnThePull · 31/01/2018 19:45

Fantastic, a great step forward. They might even find that presenting a sport as being less misogynistic might encourage more women to engage as fans and it be beneficial as, shock horror, women have interests and disposable income too!

Mrscog · 31/01/2018 19:45

I’m pleased, although I think a transitional compromise could have been to have male and female models smartly dressed rather than scantily clad.

HamishBamish · 31/01/2018 19:46

It doesn't bother me either way tbh. They are used as an advertising tool. No different to models advertising perfume imo. I wonder how the girls themselves feel about it? I'm guessing they are a bit pissed off an easy money earning opportunity has been removed.

StickThatInYourPipe · 31/01/2018 19:48

There are an awful lot more fully clothed, plus they all will have logo sponsorship placement.

Plus what about cheerleaders and what about bikini models? And kardashians who put the full breasts all over Twitter? Just live and let live.

Cherrycokewinning · 31/01/2018 19:50

Why do you keep banging on about it? No one said they were naked. They’re clearly not there to advertise, even if they are sometimes wearing logo’d bikinis. I think you’re pretending not to understand that they’re there to be ogled like peices of meat.

And it bloody irritating when other women pretend that

Fekko · 31/01/2018 19:51

Can the change a tyre or fix a broken exhaust? Are they techies- do they monitor the onboard computers? Are they strategists, working out the speed needed at the corners, or the positions needed to win? Are the physios and able to aid a thrown out back? Do they make the sandwiches, fetch the tea and post?

If the answer is ‘no but they look pretty’ then they don’t actually have a proper job.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 31/01/2018 19:54

I've watched F1 for years and whilst I've never felt passionate about removal of grid girls, in more recent years it has seemed increasingly anachronistic. I do feel for those who've perhaps lost work they like- as I would anyone else.

Fekko · 31/01/2018 19:54

But it’s not just the cheerleaders who have the revealing outfits: www.nydailynews.com/news/world/colombia-women-cycling-team-naked-new-uniform-article-1.1939853

KalaLaka · 31/01/2018 19:54

gluteustothemaximus agreed! Male and female models, both similarly dressed, or none at all.

BonnieF · 31/01/2018 19:54

I understand that ‘grid girls’ look anachronistic in 2018, but I also sympathise with the models who will lose work.

I consider myself a feminist, but to me that means being supportive of other women who choose to do work that I might not be entirely comfortable with, and that includes modelling and promotional work.

Too many feminists are far too keen on trying to dictate to other women what they should think, what they should wear, how they should behave and what work they should do.

FloydOnThePull · 31/01/2018 19:57

I agree with cherrycoke it's very much, "hey guys! Look at these tits!" (And hopefully our logo that's placed somewhere near them will find its way subliminally into your consciousness). It does everyone involved a disservice

k2p2k2tog · 31/01/2018 19:58

I'm glad. It sent out the message that men were there do do important stuff, women were there to look pretty.
