I think it is a great thing.

Some people on my FB clearly don't.

That woman needs to realise it’s not all about her.

Agree.

DreamyMcDreamy · 01/02/2018 10:04

Not wanting women to be dehumanised and objectified to the point that men see them as nothing more than a set of holes to fuck is NOT the same as wanting to make them where burkas

Spectacularly missing the point that people telling women what is or isn't acceptable for them to do, taking away their choices, kind of puts you on a par with those who seek to oppress....

Thehairthebod · 01/02/2018 10:06

Yes, this. Its not about individuals, it's about how society views women as a whole. And I think that given that thousands of women are raped and sexually assaulted every year, nearly all women suffer from harrassment at some point in their lives, many women suffer from domestic violence and 2 women a week are murdered by their partner or ex partner, I think we can conclude that 'society' sees them as objects for men to do with as they please.

“Today 10:00 DreamyMcDreamy

No dreamy there is no truth to it. It’s disturbing that your mind works like that though

Carry on deluding yourself. I'd say it's a lot more disturbing that you profess to speak for all women...
They are activities the patriarchy have deemed women suitable for. You think any woman would truly chose this?
Some women want to and enjoy their job.
Who are you to say they don't?”

You know what I’d love? You know the darts? Well I’d love to get on my knees and suck off the contestants as they do their warm ups. It wouldn’t be televised or anything so it’s fine. Anyway it would get me loads of publicity and I could hopefully get on a reality show and in the magazines and then make enough money from it to have a good life.

I like giving blow jobs! It’s great fun and easy money.

No problem with that either?

theredjellybean · 01/02/2018 10:08

I haven't read whole thread, but think it would be a much better move towards equality if we had both grid girls and boys..
So those who wish to pursue that line of work can, those that enjoy it as part of the spectacle of the event can, and it would not be about the old fashioned approach of men ogling girls.

All happy... Men women all sexual orientation...

DeleteOrDecay · 01/02/2018 10:08

It's not about telling women what is and isn't acceptable it's about telling men and society as a whole that it's no longer acceptable to treat women like decorative objects. Small steps like this contribute to the changing of attitudes.

BiologyMatters · 01/02/2018 10:09

Does that woman really think that the men who are gawping at her body care what she and her cohorts are studying at university?

Thehairthebod · 01/02/2018 10:09

Spectacularly missing the point that people telling women what is or isn't acceptable for them to do, taking away their choices, kind of puts you on a par with those who seek to oppress....

Like I said, there isn't the demand for 'grid boys' or 'walk on boys'. Where is the outrage that their 'choice' has been taken away?

The world carried on turning after page 3 got banned.

Woollypinksocks · 01/02/2018 10:09

I'm glad, parading women around like prize cows is very outdated.

A couple of points.

Feminists didn't ban 'grid girls', men did probably because they're terrified of a sexual harassment scandal.

Being a grid girls isn't a proper job.

If the grid girls still want to do this type of work, there are still plenty of other places that they can go to be objectified and get paid for it. Nobody is stopping them from doing anything they want to do. It just so happens that this role isn't relevant to certain sports anymore.

DreamyMcDreamy · 01/02/2018 10:11

Confused Grin
WTAF are you on about?! Are you insinuating that the grid girls secretly "suck off?" Because they're pretty and decorative? That is a huge assumption to make.
You're showing a fascinating insight into a very warped mindset there!

Woollypinksocks · 01/02/2018 10:12

Dreamy no, the point being made is that just because there are women willing to do something for easy money, doesn't make it right.

Cherrycokewinning · 01/02/2018 10:13

No, I’m not talking about grid girls. I’m saying I’d like to do that. That’s ok isn’t it, if I want a job giving blow jobs to contestants at the darts?

Thehairthebod · 01/02/2018 10:13

The irony is that many of those frothing about women having their 'choice taken away' are also the same ones who will go on about breastfeeding in public making people uncomfortable and how women should be considerate of this and try to cover up (looking at you Farage).

Because 'free choice' apparently only counts when women are choosing to use their bodies for men's titillation.

I can't imagine that there hasn't been a single gay racing driver, but I don't believe any has ever come out. And they're not likely to either as long as the sport still has this anachronistic seventies girls and money glamour thing attached. Well done Liberty Media!

Woollypinksocks · 01/02/2018 10:17

Very true thehairthebod

Lonecatwithkitten · 01/02/2018 10:18

Liberty media bought the F1 rights from Bernie Ecclestone as a result of this change of ownership losing grid girls is the start of a massive overhaul of the a sport that has been run for many years as just one mans vision.
Prepare for a large number of changes, many of them have already happened with stewardship of engineering moving and changes to sporting regulations.
Bernie just kept the big teams happy, liberty media are about making the sport more accessible to fans, making the experience better for the fans, levelling the playing field to increase competition and increasing the fan base.

Is that rather like saying the way to deal with the problem that men commit over 90% of violent crime is for women to start committing it too?

TheFirstMrsDV · 01/02/2018 10:24

Wouldn't it have been amazing if so many people were worried about unemployment when the mines were being shut down?
I doubt anyone is really concerned about these women paying their mortgages.
How anyone can watch men driving cars and being lauded as heros whilst women are used as props and think that is ok..

DreamyMcDreamy · 01/02/2018 10:25

Why are you conflating sexual acts with the jobs?
That says a hell of a lot more about you than it does about anything else.

Cherrycokewinning · 01/02/2018 10:27

Yeah, course it does dreamy Hmm

araiwa · 01/02/2018 10:29

F1 has bigger problems than gridgirls.

It used to be the pinnacle of exciting motorsport. Its boring crap now.

People watch it for racing- thats what they need to fix

Thehairthebod · 01/02/2018 10:30

How anyone can watch men driving cars and being lauded as heros whilst women are used as props and think that is ok..

Yes, it's bizarre.

DeleteOrDecay · 01/02/2018 10:33

Yes this is so true.

No one is really bothered about these women and their 'jobs'. They just want to get outraged at 'PC gawd mad'.

The comparison to Iran upthread is laughable it really is.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 01/02/2018 10:33

I think it's great. Hopefully this will influence other sectors outside sports too, like trade shows.
