To not want to watch woman removing her daughter's nits in Waitrose cafe

After a stressful morning thought I'd treat myself to a cappuccino in Waitrose cafe. But there's a woman with her daughter on her knees having a very thorough but removal session. Methodically going through her hair, getting the nits between finger and thumb and then flicking them onto the floor. Am I unreasonable to think perhaps she could do this in the privacy of her own home?

oh god thats disgusting

RoseWhiteTips · 30/01/2018 10:42

Describe this woman. She needs to be shamed.

FlyMaybe · 30/01/2018 10:50

That is fucking gross! Shock

I would not have been able to hold my tongue I'm afraid.

The HT of my school once gave us a talk on why personal grooming in public was a no-no. I still can't comb my hair in public!

SersioulycanitgetWORSE · 30/01/2018 10:53

I simply have no idea why you didn't discreetly inform staff and get then to deal with it.
I just don't understand why you wouldn't? What agro?

SersioulycanitgetWORSE · 30/01/2018 10:55

Op, making a fuss?? By saying.. Excuse me, there is a lady there nit clearing...

End of?

CrustyCob · 30/01/2018 10:55

Itchy and scratchy.

laudanum · 30/01/2018 13:53

But the real question is this, did she eat them after plucking?

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 30/01/2018 13:57

Holy shit! Why? WHY?Envy

Whiterabbitears · 30/01/2018 14:02

Oddish
Where did you get that horrifyingly real emoji? They are so life-like Im having twitches! After years of delousing two nit magnet DDs Grin

kissmethere · 30/01/2018 14:03

I can tell believe you didn't say anything and chose to say it on here instead. What's the point?

BlueMirror · 30/01/2018 14:20

Surely she was picking dirt, sand, glitter, glue or dried food out or something. Still gross but surely if you're going to delouse you would use a nit comb and conditioner/proper solution not just pick odd ones out here and there in the Waitrose cafe! Might as well not bother at all.

vomit vomit vomit

BlueMirror · 30/01/2018 14:30

Or cradle cap? My dc had it until the age of 8!
Whatever's being picked it's horrid but I can believe it's lice!
For how long did the picking session last op?

BlueMirror · 30/01/2018 14:31
  • I can't believe it's lice
BlueMirror · 30/01/2018 14:33

Also some of the stories about them climbing up chair legs are funny. They can survive for very little time off a human head! There needs to be head to head contact to pass them.
If a deli using session like the op described was actually happening I'd be more concerned about one getting flicked into my coffee!

BlueMirror · 30/01/2018 14:34

*delousing

Aeroflotgirl · 30/01/2018 14:34

I would have reported her to staff, health and safety and all that. Nits are contagious.

Finola1step · 30/01/2018 14:36

The dirty fecker!

SimultaneousEquation · 30/01/2018 14:37

Oh god, I checked ds’s hair for bits in the Waitrose queue on Saturday. In my defence he had a couple of likely looking bits of dandruff and the lady in front was taking ages Blush

Mycatisahacker · 30/01/2018 14:38

Not the best but I loved de Nitting the kids. On a par with a good yellow head or a deep black head Wink

Yeah I thought that until I watched a program on them. They don’t need direct contact with a head and they can live for longer than you think off a head. It’s much less common than head to head contact though.

PsychoPumpkin · 30/01/2018 14:40

That is vile!

geekymommy · 30/01/2018 14:40

EWWWW! I'm scratching my head now, and I'm pretty sure nits can't cross the ocean to get to me.

BlueMirror · 30/01/2018 14:44

According to the NHS page they can only be passed from head to head contact or extremely rarely on intimate items like brushes. No mention of them purposefully marching up furniture.

ItsAllABitStrangeReally · 30/01/2018 14:47

This reminds me of a story in our local paper about 20 years ago....... a guy was arrested for picking his pubic lice out and flicking them at people.

In fucking Tesco fruit and veg aisle of all places.
