my first aibu post

i went to meet my friend last night for an hour in the pub, she had her dc's with her as they wanted to watch the rugby, and i took my male friend with me, now as i am pg i have tried not to drink, but i really fancied a taboo and coke, so i bought one and drank it, it had a lot of coke in it, i really enjoyed it and thought i'll have another one and that will be all for the night, anyway i went to the loo, came back to find my full drink had gone with my 2 friends laughing their heads off, saying they had done it for my own good.

now they where slightly tipsy, and still had their own drinks, my male friend had downed my drink, and i wouldn't mind but they didn't even replace it with just a coke or something.

i felt really hurt that they had done this, its not like i was going crazy on alcohol and what gives them the right to make that decision for me anyway, i'm 25 ffs.

i know they did it with good intentions but i do feel upset by their actions, maybe i am being unreasonable or maybe its hormones, but i'm still a bit upset by it, am i wrong?

no, your mate was (unintentionally) being a prick.

LoveMyGirls · 29/04/2007 11:02

They should have replaced it, its not their decision but then if i was your friend i think imo one drink is enough but though i may have said that i wouldnt have taken your drink.

LoveMyGirls · 29/04/2007 11:02

How many weeks are you?

J20BABY · 29/04/2007 11:33

i'm nearly 18 weeks and taboo and coke is imo a bit less alcoholic than vodka or even wine, as i say it hasd a lot of coke in it and i was really enjoying it

mustrunmore · 29/04/2007 11:36

I'd have replaced it with a plain coke, and waited to see if you noticed

J20BABY · 29/04/2007 11:37

that wouldn't have been so bad, thats what i would have done!

I wouldn't be hurt, I'd be annoyed. Sounds like your friends need to grow up a bit.

blueshoes · 29/04/2007 14:23

Your friends should not have treated you like a child and overridden your right to make decisions. If they felt strongly that you should not drink, then they should have tried to persuade you, rather than act arbitrarily.

You are pregnant, not mentally impaired. Agree with juule that they need to grow up .. or drink less. File this experience away for when THEY are pregnant ...

LazyLineThreadKiller · 29/04/2007 14:38

Your friends were somewhat unfair, however you are wrong in saying that a Taboo and coke is less alcoholic than a vodka. A unit is a unit. Just because you mix it with more coke doesn't make it less intoxicating. Unless you don't get to drink it of course

J20BABY · 29/04/2007 16:31

Hmm i thought that 50ml of something like 11.5% taboo would be less alcoholic than 25ml of 40% vodka, i've been told otherwise, but isn't it about doing the maths?

sunnysideup · 29/04/2007 17:31

God it's a long time since I went out. I've never heard of a 'Taboo'

You're right though, it was pesky of them to make that decision for you.

powder28 · 29/04/2007 17:33

Sunnysideup, taboo has been around for yonks.
Personally I like a Cherry B

J20BABY · 29/04/2007 17:38

i think there used to be one similar called 'mirage' but haven't seen that for ages, mmmm cherry B

Yes! Mirage and Taboo were always advertised together. They taste like cough medicine

J20BABY · 29/04/2007 17:43

they do a bit with lemmonade, but they're lovely with coke

vodka and cranberry is a nice summer drink

J20BABY · 29/04/2007 17:51

i like that too, but was trying to avoid vodka, as it goes down so nicely

LazyLineCrocKiller · 29/04/2007 21:07

Der sorry J20, got me facts all mixed! 50ml of Taboo, assuming it is about 11% is half a unit. So you could have been doing much worse! Sorry!

I hate it when people treat you like a child, as if you can't make decisions for yourself. And then to treat it as a joke!

J20BABY · 29/04/2007 22:05

no worries lazyline i know they where trying to be helpful, but, how dare they?!

oh well, will get my own back one day, maybe make them babysit, while i drink a bottle of taboo after baby's born
