To think young sheldon will give many people the rage

He can be irritating as an adult in Big Bang theory but the of a show based around him as a kid has made me blink.

I cannot see it being funny. I can really see it being very ragey with a precocious child.

I would also probably feel cross that he wasn't offered the help he needed as a child.

yes I'm aware it's just a program and I don't have to watch it. It's my irrational rant of the dayGrin

Does anyone know when it actually starts?

NameChanger22 · 29/01/2018 11:44

DD was jumping up and down with excitement when the advert for this came on the TV yesterday.

Darknessinthevalley · 29/01/2018 11:45

Apparently the creator actually based the pilot, and pitched it, about his nephew. It was changed to a BBT spinoff when the resemblance was noticed.

Cagliostro · 29/01/2018 11:47

I can’t wait to see it. Sheldon sort of ‘saved’ me. I only started watching it just after I realised I had Aspergers and I was really struggling. I know he’s not diagnosed etc (and I know a lot of people with ASD really hate the show) but for me, seeing his character just made it easier to deal with and most importantly to be able to laugh at my quirks and not hate myself. I can see a lot of myself in him and Amy too even though there are lots of differences too. I’m diagnosed now and my DCs are also diagnosed autistic, we all love Sheldon so I’m really looking forward to this. The only bit I’m nervous about is if there is bullying as he was so unpopular, DD and I were both bullied a lot.

Aki99 · 29/01/2018 11:48

Have you seen it?

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 29/01/2018 11:48

I’ve also seen a clip where Jim Parsons says he suggested it. Hence why he’s an exec producer.

EyreOfSophistication · 29/01/2018 11:50

My dd loves it. She's been watching it for a few months now, but don't ask me on what channel. Jim Parson's does the voiceover.

No bullying. I think because they have him skip grades and he's 4 years younger than his peers he's just allowed to get away with being weird and irritating. Which may explain the character as an adult a bit more....

Drivemecrazy1974 · 29/01/2018 11:53

Actually, I've seen the entire series and it's really really good. It doesn't actually make fun of Sheldon's character, rather it shows how a normal family copes with having somebody gifted in their midst. His character isn't awful in it, I'd say the guy who plays Young Sheldon does so very well.
I actually find it rather touching, especially the way his mum and dad obviously mean so much to him - which actually is something that I think is very obvious in TBBT - he may make fun of his mum's religious beliefs, but he always talks to her on the phone and it is obvious that he cares a great deal for her.
I think you should give is a try before slating it.

Cagliostro · 29/01/2018 11:54

Thank you crazy 💐

petbear · 29/01/2018 11:54

I can't stand Big Bang Theory. It's shit IMO. Forced 'comedy,' full of cliches, and incredibly naff and predictable 'geeky' characters. I am amazed it's so popular and has lasted so long. Awful programme.

HamishBamish · 29/01/2018 11:54

I've seen it and agree with Drivemecrazy.

CrazyExIngenue · 29/01/2018 11:55

Do you find that it often comes across more as a drama with bits of comedy, rather than a straight comedy with bits of drama? It really is more focused on his parents and siblings (especially the older brother) in a lot of ways.

Fairylights56 · 29/01/2018 11:56

I think it's great! I've seen all the episodes so far and I think it's better than TBBT!

Drivemecrazy1974 · 29/01/2018 11:58

CrazyExingenue - I wouldn't call it a drama as such but it's certainly not as much of an obvious comedy as TBBT. I was worried that it would be a comedy in the same vein as The Goldbergs - which I love but didn't think it would work for Young Sheldon.
I think the producers of Young Sheldon have pitched this just right. It's touching as well as funny. I was really pleased to see that it's been renewed for a second season ( a lot earlier than most series get renewed too, which I think is a positive thing)

CrazyExIngenue · 29/01/2018 12:00

Yeah, I can't put my finger on what to call it. It's not a straight forward comedy, especially for the mother character, but it is funny.

Drivemecrazy1974 · 29/01/2018 12:04

Whimsical might be how I'd describe it - I think the way it touches on his relationship with his brother and sister is great. The way his older brother seems a bit pushed to the side because of Sheldon's intelligence and the way his sister Missy doesn't take any nonsense from him seems pretty standard to me in a regular family kind of setup.
There are plenty of 'aw bless' moments, but also plenty of laugh out loud moments that probably resonate with me because I was slightly quirkier than my brothers and was more likely to have my head in a book but then start talking to adults in what would possibly be described as a precocious manner (I wasn't precocious but I did like quoting from the newspapers!!).

Princecharlesfirstwife · 29/01/2018 12:06

Interesting fact: Young Sheldon is played by the actor who played Ziggy in Big Little Lies. I though he was quite a good little actor in that so might give YS a go. Gave up on TBBT after about series 4 when it became a tierd cliche.

I agree, i have tried to watch it on E4 as DP enjoyts it but they show so many episodes and they are never in order so i can never follow it.

ivenoideawhatimdoing · 29/01/2018 12:08

I've watched it online as it's come out in America, I was skeptical at first but I must admit on the whole it's a really nice and entertaining show.

The little boy in it is fantastic and the comedy far outweighs TBBT.

Very subtle and very clever.

His Dad is a wonderful man in it which makes me sad knowing that they have such an awful collapse of the family.

Sparklingbrook · 29/01/2018 12:08

I love BBT, good job the TV has an off switch eh? Or a bajillion other channels. Grin

MsWanaBanana · 29/01/2018 12:11

I don’t mind it. I’ve watched quite a few episodes of the first season as I streamed it from America. It’s pretty funny and a time pass while I’m doing my chores.

bluebells1 · 29/01/2018 12:17

Sheldon is made tolerable thanks to leonard and penny and their equation with him. On his own, he is a fucking headache.

VladmirsPoutine · 29/01/2018 12:18

I can't remember the name of the one of the main women characters. She's blonde. Always in some kind of vest top and is perennially being 'dumb' and stupid. TbbT is awful for that alone.
