Posting in here for traffic.

Just wondering what you do for skincare? I have recently come out in untold spots and need to get rid and have my clear skin back.

What works for you?

Witch Hazel for spots.

I use Bio Oil to moisturise.

Apricot scrub and baby soap for cleaning.

UpstartCrow · 28/01/2018 14:27

Spots are caused by hormones, not skincare.
I use St Ives apricot stone facial scrub, and Lidl own brand shower gel. I'm allergic to a lot of stuff but those work ok on my skin. I have dry skin with an oily T zone.

Nicpem1982 · 28/01/2018 14:31

I've recently changed mine

I use a walnut and oatmeal vitamin e scrub every morning followed by a hydrating serum

Then evenings I use a vitamin e hot cloth cleanser and night serum twice a week

And just a simple face wash and night serum the other days

Zampa · 28/01/2018 14:31

I use a cream cleanser in the morning when I have a shower and rinse off with a muslin. I use an Aldi moisturiser, morning and night. I don't wash my face in the evening 😳

I don't wear make up except on special occasions. When I do wear it, I remove with Eve Lom cleanser.

I'm in my late 30s and have always struggled with spots but my skin is currently the clearest it's ever been. I think it's the lack of make up.

lostmyfeckingkeysagain · 28/01/2018 14:34

I suffered with horrendous spots during and after pregnancy. The only thing that completely got rid of them was oral antibiotics but I was also given some advice by a dermatologist that did help:

  • don't over wash your face. This causes your skin to dry out and it will then produce excess oil to compensate, which causes more spots. Once in the morning and once at night is plenty
  • expensive face washes for acne prone skin are basically a con. The dermatologist I saw recommended Boots own Sensitive skin face wash or the Simple range.
  • Any product that makes your skin tingle after use is too harsh for your skin.
  • It's important to moisturise (see above about what happens when spotty skin becomes too try), I've found the la Roche Possay Effeclar moisturiser is the only one that doesn't make acne worse.
  • Avoid harsh scrubs but use a gentle exfoliatior 1-2 times a week.
  • change your pillow cases regularly and if you have long hair sleep with it tied up
  • I switched from my regular liquid foundation to Bare Minerals original foundation and that also made a difference to my spots.
karalime · 28/01/2018 14:38

AM I use Simple gel cleanser, the ordinary azelaic acid and Clinique dramatically different gel moisturiser.

PM I use Clinique take the day off milk, Epiduo, Clinique moisturiser and then a thin layer of Vaseline over the top.

Sounds mad but the Vaseline works! I haven’t had any spots (apart from 2 tiny whiteheads!) since I started using it a month ago.

bossyboo · 28/01/2018 14:46

Only thing that's helped my skin which gets spotty around mouth and chin - (hormonally I think) is to use Clinique anti blemish 3 step products and their foundation. Very occasional spot now but soon goes!! Would starve rather than be without these products now Shock

Mornings, wash with water apply Olay PoVital Day Cream
Evenings, apply Nivea Creme Care cleanser, remove with cotton wool pads finish off with Nivea micellar water, then Olay ProVital night cream.

Never use anything that foams on my face, including soap.

kaytee87 · 28/01/2018 14:49

I used to use the avene range but have found body shop vitamin e range just as good.

At night I use the cleanser then toner then serum-in-oil.
In the morning I use the face wash in the shower then serum.

Katyb1310 · 28/01/2018 14:49

In the morning I use the Simple foaming cleanser, Simple toner then Superdrug vitamin E day cream. At night I use Simple micellar water to take my eye make up off then that new Boots range - think its called Your Good Skin or something? I use the hot cloth cleanser followed by Simple toner then the Your good Skin concentrate followed by the night cream.

kaytee87 · 28/01/2018 14:50

Oh before I wash my face in my morning I use a really hot cloth on it.

lookingforthecorkscrew · 28/01/2018 14:53

Cetaphil cleanser - miracle stuff

TJ2503 · 28/01/2018 15:14

I have very sensitive skin (think irritated red rash all over face) and I have found the only products which work for me are Dermalogica.

They are pricey but IMO well worth the investment.

poisoningpidgeysinthepark · 28/01/2018 15:22

I only wash my face with water and put nothing else on it ever. And I drink loads of water. No spots.

Kingsclerelass · 28/01/2018 15:30

Before bed - Liz Earle cleanser and Boots moisturiser. Morning, hot shower and give my face, neck and upper arms a scrub with an exfoliating sponge. Then Boots moisturiser & minimal make up. Seems to work. Am wrong side of 50 so getting rid of dull dead skin cells and improving circulation is what I'm aiming for.

MilfordFound · 28/01/2018 15:54

Am:
Wash with Cosrx Good Morning Low PH cleanser
The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin
Hadalabo Premium Hylauronic Acid
Cosrx Snail92 cream
SPF50

Pm:
Double cleanse first with The Body Shop Camomile Cleansing Butter and Cosrx Good Morning Low Ph Cleanser
Wipe with Cosrx One Step Original Clear pad (BHA)
Cosrx Snail92 cream

Other products also in rotation include vitamin C, AHA, Azaleaic Acid.

For spots I'd use Paula's Choice Extra Strength 2%BHA.

Have a read of the thread linked above, it's a treasure trove of information and has made a huge difference to how I approach skincare and had a great effect on my skin.

Elend · 28/01/2018 16:01

My teenage brother has come out in terrible spots lately - previously had enviable skin but got put in steroids for a medical condition and it's wrecked his forehead. I bought him some lyonsleaf calendula cream and it's working better on his acne than all the prescription-only creams he was using. I also got myself their cleansing balm and it's a lovely treat, and seems to be making my skin less oily too. You can buy samples from them for like £2 (I'm not sponsored by them I swear)

Lonesurvivor · 28/01/2018 16:03

any product that makes your skin tingle after use is too harsh for your skin
That's not true some products like acids and vitamin C will cause mild tingling for some people. It should only last a short time. It's when the tingling continues and starts to burn/itch it needs to be removed asap and face well rinsed with water.

LifeBeginsAtGin · 28/01/2018 16:05

Hot water and flannel.

Home made moisturiser (Aqueous cream and bio oil.)

Lonesurvivor · 28/01/2018 16:05

When you find a product that works/doesn't suit, take note of its main ingredients. That way you'll be able to tell if other products are for you or not.

MrsWineasaurus · 28/01/2018 16:05

Wow. So many suggestions!

Thank you everyone x

Twice a day I wash my face with soap and water. Put on some 99p a tub coconut moisturiser from home bargains!

youngnomore · 28/01/2018 16:07

I Use water to wash my face. That’s it. Anything else i use irritates my skin. Even the sensitive stuff. I don’t even use moisturiser. I have oily skin and recently have started getting acne (I’m 40)I think it’s hormonal and need to see doc about it.

maddiemookins16mum · 28/01/2018 16:09

I use Pears soap to wash it. Then I use some Olay complete lightweight day lotion.
That's it.
