In fairness it was IMAX but £50 for 1 adult (DP) & 2 DCs - I try to avoid the cinema now due to the prohibitive costs (& annoying nacho eating, drink slurping fellow cinema goers)

We have a Vue cinema and it's £4.99 for any ticket at any time, and it's on a retail park just over the road from a huge Tesco so you can easily pick up snacks and drinks for a couple of quid rather than pay extortionate cinema prices.

LittleMyLikesSnuffkin · 27/01/2018 16:25

My local vue is £4.99 each and I get drinks and snacks from the shops beforehand and take them in with us. Save a bundle. And the pic n mix the shop has is exactly the same as the cinema stuff but loads cheaper.

Was going to go to the odeon recently for a change before I realised the tickets were nearly double what I usually pay! Yeah. Fuck that.

melj1213 · 27/01/2018 16:27

Oh and our Vue is the only cinema in the area (well there's one in the next big town about 30 miles away but it's an old cinema that doesn't show new releases until weeks after their release) and the next one after that is about 60 miles away.

lynmilne65 · 27/01/2018 16:34

Yeah we all live at Peckam 😁Hmm

nancy75 · 27/01/2018 16:40

My local Vue is £12.74 for an adult, £10.25 for a child, much the same as all the other local cinemas. 3d is about £15 & imax is about £22 each.

nancy75 · 27/01/2018 16:41

Are the £4.99 vue tickes just for kids club or for every film?

Crunchymum · 27/01/2018 16:44

We only go to mini morning now. Less than £8 for one adult and 2 kids.

I also take my own snacks. So can do it all for just over a tenner. It's been a regular winter thing (few times a month!!)

MorningstarMoon · 27/01/2018 16:53

I'm a regular cinema goer so shell out for Odeon limitless £17.99 a month but it's worth it for me.

melj1213 · 27/01/2018 16:55

Nancy my Vue is £4.99 for any ticket, any movie, any day.

Idontdowindows · 27/01/2018 16:55

I haven't been to the pictures since Blue Lagoon came out, and it was definitely an affordable evening out then but now I won't even contemplate it unless it's an indie, or community centre.

londonista · 27/01/2018 16:56

If you use childcare vouchers some schemes also allow you to by cheap cinema tickets as well.

londonista · 27/01/2018 16:58

My childcare vouchers are with Edenred, and they have a site Edenred Store Cinema Benefits.
www.cinemabenefits.co.uk/

Might be worth exploring if you can get cheaper tickets that way. We save a lot.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 27/01/2018 17:44

I never pay full price for the cinema.

I have a lloyds bank account and choose the 6 free tickets for the annual 'bonus' with it. It's a free account due to earning enough to cover their requirements to waive the fee.

I have travel insurance etc to get the free tickets and go on Tues/Weds. I never go at the weekend unless it's a cheap kids show.

Our local small cinema also shows things on their one screen a month or so after the release and costs £5 a ticket. So we do sometimes go there.

I think I can also get cheaper tickets through my work's loyalty card, but haven't tried yet. If stuck for going at the weekend sometime I might investigate it.

3D makes me slightly nauseous sometimes, so no desire to go to those for an extra cost - and the thought of the cost of the IMAX makes my eyes water.

UrgentScurryfunge · 27/01/2018 17:46

Taking two children and two adults to Star Wars was eye watering. Something like £38?. I felt not the slightest regret at smuggling in drinks and popcorn from the supermarket. Given that in a couple of months you can buy the DVD for £10 to £15, it hardly encourages you to go frequently.

Up to about 10 years ago, we went quite frequently. Now I wouldn't dream of doing it as a couple as after babysitter fees and anything else to bulk up the evening, we'd barely have change out of £50.

We only go once or twice a year for a guarenteed hit that's enhanced by the big screen.

Redisthemagicolour · 27/01/2018 17:58

Our local cinema is £2.50 weekdays and £3.50 weekends. It's fantastic. Ok not imax but does show 3D films. Reasonably priced drinks and snacks too and always full. Wonder why!!!

nancy75 · 27/01/2018 18:48

Everyone e here takes their own snacks, staff don’t even bother checking - when you’ve just paid £50 for 2 adults & a kid to watch a film it would cause a riot if they started checking where you’d bought your Maltesers!
Surprisingly most of the local cinemas are usually pretty full despite the eye watering prices

EssentialHummus · 27/01/2018 18:56

Go to the Peckham Plex. All tickets £4.99 including at peak times.

Hear hear! Grin

EssentialHummus · 27/01/2018 18:59

(Including refreshments for the baby screenings!)

londonista · 27/01/2018 19:07

Nancy75

At Cineworld in Wandsworth the staff have been told to not let people bring snacks in, which is an absolute joke! £38 for a family of 4! So there is always the obligatory stuffing of bags of tesco sweets up the sleeves. Not forking our £5 for that manky popcorn. And the bloody pick and mix ... can you buy actual gold by weight cheaper?? Probably!

clarrylove · 27/01/2018 19:10

We went this afternoon to see Early Man and it was £14 for all 4 of us. This was in the Forest of Dean.

People were queuing out the door and I think if we lived there we would be going far more frequently.

Stormwhale · 27/01/2018 19:12

We go to an independent cinema now. It's £3 a ticket, and the popcorn and drinks are tons cheaper too. We can have more snacks and drinks than we need for £10.

WeAllHaveWings · 27/01/2018 19:13

I tweeted Odeon and they said it is ok to bring own snacks so we buy popcorn and a drink at Tesco before we go.

We also use tesco club card points so it’s a cheap night out for us.

Allyg1185 · 27/01/2018 19:13

Our cinema is a bargain. £6.50 for adults and £5.50 for kids. The sweets and juice are reasonable to. We were under £25 last week for the three of us and two juices, m&ms and jellybeans

Quickerthanavicar · 27/01/2018 19:13

I have an Everyman pass which is £50 a month for me to go and see anything at anytime and I can take one person with me each time. 10% of food and drink and lovely sofas.

Indie139 · 27/01/2018 19:16

Welshwabbit I go to Peckham plex. Cant go wrong with £4.99 tickets.
