In fairness it was IMAX but £50 for 1 adult (DP) & 2 DCs - I try to avoid the cinema now due to the prohibitive costs (& annoying nacho eating, drink slurping fellow cinema goers)

Last time I went it was just under £40 for me and 3 kids but that was a family deal. I didn't think that was bad.

Welshwabbit · 27/01/2018 14:25

Go to the Peckham Plex. All tickets £4.99 including at peak times.

Katescurios · 27/01/2018 14:25

It is expensive! Me and DH very occasionally take a day off work together and go during the day. We did that last week to see The Greatest Showman, it was £8 each and we snuck snacks and drinks in.

Laineymc7 · 27/01/2018 14:26

Haven’t been to the IMAX but a cinema trip in London for 2 adults plus popcorn and a drink is a total rip off these days. At least £50. We are going tonight.

dun1urkin · 27/01/2018 14:27

A number of our local cinemas are £4.99 per adult now (plus booking fee)
Don’t know how long this is going to last, but we’ve been much more frequently as a result Grin

Rudeolf · 27/01/2018 14:28

£1.99 for kids & adults for a weekend older film - or £3.99 with drink & popcorn.

Or about £8 adult & £5 kids for a new film. You can also pay £10 a year & get £2 off every film.

Glumglowworm · 27/01/2018 14:29

Two of my local cinemas are just £4 for a standard adult ticket

Premier opened which was cheap and cheerful, and Cineworld had to reduce their prices to match, presumably because they were losing so much business since the cinemas are only a couple of minutes walk apart.

KalaLaka · 27/01/2018 14:32

Kids clubs at cinemas are so much better for younger children, as Rudeolf says. And bring your own food!

Lloyd45 · 27/01/2018 15:11

If you get Meerkat insurance for £1.24 you receive 2 for 1 cinema tickets every week for a year

gamerwidow · 27/01/2018 15:20

Our Cineworld is £12/ adult and £8/ kids but I can use my NHS discount to get nearly 50% off so only £11 for me and DD 7 we always take our own contraband too because I’m not paying £5 for popcorn!

AnothermiserablewetSaturday · 27/01/2018 15:33

Thanks all -

@Lloyd45 - I actually need travel insurance so have organised through CTM & bagged the cinema tickets . DP loves the cinema so this will help. Thanks for the pointer.

Have you got a non chain cinema near you?
We’ve got a crappy little one near us and me and ds can get in for less than a fiver for both of us.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 27/01/2018 15:39

Reel here is a fiver a pop, not too shoddy to be fair.

AnnPerkins · 27/01/2018 15:42

Our local one is £6 midweek. And it has a bar 😬

AdmiralJaneway · 27/01/2018 15:43

We have cineworld nearby and it’s shockingly expensive so we go to junior cinema on Sunday morning every now and then and that’s £2.50 each.

athingthateveryoneneeds · 27/01/2018 15:45

This is why we go to our community cinema. £4.20 adult.and £3.80 children/students.

Haven't been to big name.cinemas in yonks.

Lloyd45 · 27/01/2018 15:47

👍 enjoy, it's such a good deal. I went to see the Greatest Showman with it last week, such a good film, I'm now in love with Hugh Jackman and want to marry him 😂

sinceyouask · 27/01/2018 15:49

Vue nearest to me is a fiver a head, half the price of the others nearby. If Vue can charge a reasonable price, why not others?

Lloyd45 · 27/01/2018 15:59

Our cinema is £12.40 an adult and £9.50 for a child, 70p booking fee online. That is for a normal screen, 4DX or imax, the price is a lot more

callymarch · 27/01/2018 16:08

My Vue cinema all seats are £4.99 all the time.

specialsubject · 27/01/2018 16:09

Paid under a tenner here - cheaper not to book online, just turn up.

Would have been even cheaper had I remembered I had tesco vouchers, lesson for next time.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 27/01/2018 16:12

The cinema we go to is £2.50 Monday to Friday and £3.50 Saturday and Sunday for both adults and children

Oldraver · 27/01/2018 16:13

Yes it just cost us £40 something for Star Wars 3d IMAX. To be fair it was for DS2's birthday and we dont do it often, usually take advantage of Movies for Juniors

EduCated · 27/01/2018 16:19

Tickets where we live (small city, 2 national chain cinemas, no independents) are £8/£9 a head for adults.

The much bigger city where I work which has a range of chains and independents is closer to the £4/£5 mark, including Odeon which is one of the two at home Hmm

The discrepancy is annoying.
