To be terrified I might have cancer?

Happyland88 · 27/01/2018 07:54

I have 2 Breast lumps in the same area of my breast. I’m 29 years old (was 28 when I found both lumps.

The doctor examined and said she wasn’t concerned (didn’t feel like cancer to her). This was about 6 months ago and I’ve found it hard not to worry even though I was given some reassurance.

One of the lumps feels like it may have got bigger and now I’m terrified.

If I didn’t have my two girls (aged 1 & 4), I wouldn’t want to get out of bed. I’m too scared to make a dr’s appointment. I don’t want this to be cancer. I’ve read that cancer in young women is very aggressive. I want to be around to see my children grow old.

I’m on my own as my husband works away, I’m just so so scared.

Even if it is breast cancer most of them are treatable. I had breast cancer at around your age. I was treated and am now back to living a completely normal life with a normal life expectancy.

GottadoitGottadoit · 30/01/2018 00:05

In Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway, it says that not Doing the thing that scares you doesn’t mean you live without fear. Only that the things that scare you get smaller.

You are living in fear anyway.

Good morning!

What time does the surgery start taking calls?

DavidBowiesNumber1 · 30/01/2018 08:49

I went to my Dr. twice in past years (first time when I was around your age). Both times I was sent for mammograms, had scans and biopsy's. Both times I was told it was just a cyst.

The third time I went (after leaving it for 2-3 months because I was pretty sure it was the same lumps) I was diagnosed with aggresive breast cancer.

"Fine last time" does not mean fine forever.

I've said it before, along with all other pp's, make the appointment today. Don't be fobbed off.
You know your breasts. You know 1 lump appears to have grown. You know you need to get it checked out.

Good luck OP and please let us know how you get on this morning Flowers

PinkBlueYellow · 30/01/2018 08:52

Hi OP, I'm still here.

Obviously feel free to say no, but if you're having difficulty making the call, would you like me to do it on your behalf? I'll even drive you to the doctors so literally all you have to do is get in the car?

Again I'm here to help if you need it.

BulletFox · 30/01/2018 08:55

Good luck for today.

One of my friends keeps having to get tested, it's never been anything, she says she has 'lumpy breasts'. But she still gets tested if she finds a lump.

She's tall and slender but she does have mammoth boobs, think they're 30H

BoredOnMatLeave · 30/01/2018 09:03

OP I'm about 10 mins from tidworth, it's really not that bad on the bus to Salisbury. Anyhow that's not something you need to worry about at the moment, just go to the GP. By the time you get an appt your DH will probably be back. If he's not back PM me and I can try and help give you a lift

Happyland88 · 30/01/2018 09:45

Appointment made for tomorrow at 12.

Thank you so much for all the support everyone. I feel better for having booked the appointment, strangely enough.

Happyland88 · 30/01/2018 09:46

Sorry, namechange fail.

De-lurking - brilliant, well done. Very best of luck and let us know how it goes. You're being so brave. Flowers

Rebeccaslicker · 30/01/2018 10:27

Well done OP. I know it's terrifying - I found a small hard lump like an apple pip when DD was about 2 weeks old. The GP sent me to get it checked at the breast clinic and I cried all week until my appointment! I was lucky and all was well, but I will never forget the scare. But you have to get it checked, however much you want to be an ostrich!

Fingers tightly crossed for you.

DavidBowiesNumber1 · 30/01/2018 11:30

Well done OP and best of luck for tomorrow. Whatever happens between now and then, do not let anything stop you from getting to that appointment on time! Flowers

insancerre · 30/01/2018 12:13

Thank god!
You can do this!
We've got your back

BoreOfWhabylon · 30/01/2018 12:25

MarthaArthur · 30/01/2018 12:46

Oh Op i sympathise having been through similar myself except not me but close family member Turned out was benign tumours. I have also lived in Tidworth its a shithole i dont blame you not confiding in the piss poor welfare. Hugs to you.

alotalotalot · 30/01/2018 16:43

A huge well done op for plucking up the courage. Is it a different doctor?

octoberfarm · 30/01/2018 16:51

A massive well done for booking the appointment OP, you were really brave. Good luck for tomorrow - be firm and persistent, and know that you're doing the right thing, even if it's really hard Thanks

Happyland88 · 30/01/2018 18:12

It’s the same GP. She’s the only female GP at the surgery and I’m very self conscious about my post baby wonky chest, I couldn’t contemplate seeing a male GP. I know that’s silly. Thanks everyone, I appreciate the handhold so much. I’ve felt sick all day, really nauseous, which is making me worried but maybe it’s the stress making me feel sick?

OP posts:
octoberfarm · 30/01/2018 18:17

It's probably the stress - I always feel sick when I'm nervous or scared. Just take it easy today (as much as you can with little ones!) and be kind to yourself. Maybe a treat for all three of you, like hot chocolates with whipped cream or popcorn and a movie Smile

DakotaFanny · 30/01/2018 18:17

Tell her you’re terrified. Cry if you want. She should send you for a proper check up. Well done for getting this far and good luck!

DearPrudence · 30/01/2018 18:48

Well done Happyland Smile

DontWannaThanks · 30/01/2018 19:50

Yey! We'll done OP :)

I'm 33 and found a lump at Christmas that when Googled what it was like screamed cancer. Was anxious sick for a whole month before I got my breast clinic appointment. Went in and was out door in 5 minutes it was absolutely nothing. Worried myself sick for a month over nothing. Felt like I was walking on air coming out of there.

It's statistically likely you will have a similar experience however it's always best to check the sooner the better!

Dodie66 · 30/01/2018 23:14

You can do it. I’ve am exactly the same with seeing a doc. My heart races, I feel sick and shaky and I have to make myself go. I had a lump and had to have a mammogram and biopsy. It turned out to be nothing more than scar tissue. I’ve had several lumps that were cysts too
All that worry for nothing and the relief when I found out I was ok.
Hope all goes well for you tomorrow.
Hugs xxxx

springydaff · 30/01/2018 23:58

Get a referral to the breast care centre. A GP isn't going to know if a lump is anything to worry about. She may have a good idea but she won't know conclusively. Good practise to investigate all breast lumps at the breast care centre.

Breast cancer survivor here. I'm not going to lie, it wasn't pleasant, but I'm alive. The sooner you get there the better. Hanging around really, really isn't a good idea.
